I agree that a S/C would be better suited to a premium FPV vehicle rather than standard across the range.
My worry is whether or not the market is ready for all FPV's to be forced induction?

Perhaps a better plan is to start off with the first series having one model with s/c, then the next cycle having it across the range in different forms.

I dont know, never thought I would be saying that supercharging across the range mightn't be the best answer.

I can imagine the GM fans and some media outlets, "oh you guys only get power because ist s/ced! blah blah". Now I dont rally care what they think but perception plays a big part.

If FPV are going to play the greeny card by having a smaller engine (even if the power is equal or greater to HSV) then popping s/cers on all models isn't going to help.

Perhaps it all wont matter as they will just be envious anyway.

Personally I wouldn't care if it's powered by the offspring of mutant Chenobyl rats, as long as it makes good usable power/torque, that can actually be put to the ground and whilst retaining/improving on the current overall FG package.

And call it a GTHO. Irrespective of any comparisons to the old GTHO, the name will help FPV sell more cars. As it did with the GT name.

I think FPV are doing a brief press event for the new GS at Broadford either today or at some stage this week.

I agree, but you didn't quote all I said directly after that, but I would put money on it if the whole range is s/ced then FPV will cop flack. "Bad" press better than no press at all perhaps.

Selling cars to people on this forum is not the hard part for FPV.

Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons
I have heard a rumour that V8's will not be available in the Falcon range, only in the FPV range
Maybe this is the reason to release the FPV GS???
The GS to replace XR8????
Now someone more in the know, may know more than me, but it could be true??? maybe

I wonder how much the timing of this interview relates to the imminent launch of the E2 HSV’s. While keeping his powder dry Barrett’s let everyone know there’s a new V8 engine, with cosmetic tweaks (nothing over the top, read ‘ugly like the new E2’) due by July 1st 2010. Obviously he can’t say much because he’s got GS’s and almost a year worth of 5.4’s to sell, but the point is to put doubt in the mind of those in the market. A delayed HSV sale is as good as a FPV sale in 2010 as far as he’s concerned.

It cracks me up how the media have to take the shine of any Ford/FPV news. A new, more powerful and efficient GT is on the way, and all they can talk about is how it’s going to be a letdown if there’s no HO built. Let’s hope the Coyote V8 will be good enough to shut some mouths in GT trim as the product will need to be a standout to get any recognition at all.

Finally, looks like the F6 is keeping FPV in the sales race at this stage. I wonder how much of this is due to V8 buyers holding off for the new V8, or the F6 product outshining the GT?

Default FPV drops small car plans

Ford's performance division has abandoned plans to build a hot shot Focus small car and will instead double its efforts to revive the legendary Falcon GTHO and focus on updating its V8 engine.

Ford Performance Vehicles has finally slammed the door on a long-held ambition to fettle a four-cylinder hot hatch for its performance-loving clientele.

General manager Rod Barrett said Ford’s decision last month not to proceed with a locally-built version of the Focus small car had sealed the fate of the project.

FPV was counting on getting its hands on the locally-built Focus to match arch-rival Holden Special Vehicles’ Astra VXR hatch, and to broaden the brand’s appeal beyond its traditional V8 and turbocharged six-cylinder heartland.

‘‘If the mothership (Ford) doesn’t produce the mother car, we have very little opportunity to make a locally produced Focus,’’ Mr Barrett said.

FPV attempted to put together a business case in 2006 based around importing and rebadging the World Rally Championship-inspired Focus RS, but was stymied by exorbitant costs. Its hopes were again raised, then cruelly dashed, by Ford Australia’s recent flirtation with a local production plan for the Focus.

‘‘That was always our waiting game. We don’t do imports, it is price prohibitive for our business case. When the decision was made that the Focus wouldn’t be made at Broadmeadows it effectively ended the FPV locally-built Focus.

‘‘It was really a decision to come once Ford had decided whether the Focus was in or out. It didn’t come in, so our business plan hasn’t changed at all. It’s still straight down the Falcon line at the moment.’’

Mr Barrett also reiterated the much-desired and rumoured GTHO muscle car project was ‘‘nowhere near the thought process at the moment’’.

‘‘I’m not prepared to even think about it until we have all the hardware we require, the financial resources to do it properly,’’ he said.

‘‘It’s a dream of mine, I’d love to be in charge when we bring out a GTHO. But there’s Jiminy Cricket sitting on my shoulder and he’s yelling in my ear ‘don’t stuff it up!”. The mystique of the car is there, you’ve got to be a brave person to recreate one.’’

But he also left the door slightly ajar for Ford performance car lovers, admitting he had been watching ‘‘from the front row’’ as HSV rolled out its own ‘‘supercar’’, the W427.

“I think there was a huge learning for us in that car and I would hate to think I would put a car on the market as expensive as that. I would like to be able to do something at an affordable Australian price for the man in the street,’’ he said.

‘‘I haven’t even discussed it with Ford, but I’d love to do one in 2011 because that’s 40 years since Moffat last won Bathurst in an XY and that was the last ‘HO’ that was born. That would be great, but it’s nowhere near the thought process at the moment.’’

How predictable.

I think the last half of that article puts it into perspective and shuts the door on a GTHO IMO....

Interesting news - sooner than I thought too.

What will happen to the bonnet hump if this new V8 actually fits under the standard bonnet this time ? (I like the hump/ keep it regardless)

FG doesn't require the power bulge.

Thanks (I didn't know that)
So I take it the hump will be kept and denote V8 models.

Does anyone else think they are fiddling with the F6 so as to not upset this new V8 ?
