For whats it's worth I use to put 2+ tonnes in the back of a rusted out 85 Hiace diesel, Couldn't kill it.

Ive seen Falcon utes WAY overloaded no problems. Although I wonder if the cheap Chinese-looking wheels on this Holden may have been an issue.

It's a VS III ute. they don't have IRS.
It would not be the wheel studs that went. It would only just be an Axel bearing that went in the 11 year old bomb. I would say it only really has about 1 ton in the back maybe a bit more. 710 kg is there load limit but they are actually way safer to drive and handle better than any 1 tonne tray back because the weight is low down. A builder mate had one with air bag rear helpers for the weight he carried plus a big trailer. but he could buy a new car every year. That old ute in the photo could have easy over 500,000 km up on it now and driven like that once week for 11 years. And yes he is a tosspot to load it up like that what a fool, young Yamaha rider no doubt. |

For all the holden bagging-you could overload HQ V8 one tonner and tow an overloaded tandem trailer as well. They don't make them like that anymore.

Nice work by that fella.
I hope he's learned a lesson...I wonder if he realises that there is something to learn?

I tell ya what...I work in timber and building supply(gyprock, hardiflex, concrete) and the ford utes carry a heap more than ANY of the Holden utes. NO exceptions. The blokes who own FG's are not worried about chucking concrete, hardiflex sheets, gyprock, 90 x 45 pine and 2nd fix products all in at once and there does not appear to be any problem.
Green VE SS that comes in daily can't take much though. Saw a VT wagon with a trailer and roof racks try to take 40 panel floor sheets on his racks and 50 hardiflex sheets in the trailer. I told him to please enquire atvtge office in regard to delivery, as he will snap everything in half in the car. He seriously had no idea his car was not able to take the weight???

Having been in a few VS 5.0L's this was probably a attempt to stop it going sideways..
Seriously FAIL! |

There looks to be about 3/4 to 1m of crushed rock in the back of that ute. Now 20ml c/rock goes about 1.6-1.8 tonne to the metre plus all them bags of concrete it could be pushing 2 tonnes or more. Falcon or commodore ute, putting that much in either is plain stupid.

My best guess is he asked for 3/4 of a cube. Landscape supplies sometimes give you a little more. That would make sense. Some people (yes Tradies) I have met over the years believe 1 cubic metre= 1 tonne. He may have thought that he had 750 kilos of sand and risked the cement as a little extra. |

But fair enough. Still, that poor ute couldn't take the weight and let's hope the owner learns from experience
