What kind of AU owner are you?

I've had my AUII XR8 for 3 weeks now. When I rang up the car salesman I deal with I told him it's time for a V8. He showed me the XR8 and a Holden Calais in my price range and quite simply the Calais was plain and boring to look at, so I took the XR8 for a test drive, kept it over night and bought it the next day.

I guess I fit into the "other" catagory. I bought my series 2 XR6 specifically because I loved the distinctive look of the XR's. It's only a HP but after it's fixed it and I've done some mods I'll keep it for good. One reason- it's mine, if that makes sense. Loved the look of these cars as soon as they were released. I'm one of those unusual people who don't think AU's are ugly.
As for the Ghia, well who knows what the future holds. Haven't had it for long and it's kinda growing on me, maybe if we get a shed big enough when we move in the near future I might just keep that too.

I've now had/have 7 AUs, so not sure where I fit into the poll. I buy them, I go something else (usually e series), then I buy an AU again. List so far (in order):

AU1 XR8 auto
AU1 Fairmont I6 auto

i needed a bigger, cheaper car at the time. Its a good car. But i chose option 4. That being said, I'll never sell the AU. Spent too much money on it

I'd say I am the first half of option 3 but not the rest. wont be buying anymore fords. old or new. its 2002 pontiac firebird t/a and old school american muscle car for me some day.

I fell in love with the AU body shape but not the rest of the car. bought a custom forte showroom floor model with painted grille, 65mm lowered suspension and many other extras. obviously alloy wheels were a must

that car was flawless and took me all over the country over ten times without one single fault over six years of its life before being destroyed by a big fox and an 8 foot dirt bank at 100 km/h in reverse
it never let me down.

the S1 XR VCT models of which one I own is one of the most unique falcons there is
the whole body kit and bi plane really do improve the cars alot

thus this car will never leave my possession

In high school I had a thing for the S1 XR8 (black with the bi-plane spoiler) and thought it couldnt get any better, then in early 2000 I saw promo shots for the AU2 XR8 (in silver) and it was love at first sight. Even though I didnt think too much of the non-Tickford range I yearned for that XR8.

Nowadays though, I'd happily own any AU from Forte-Ghia they are great cars.

I plan to keep the XR8 forever (last of the proper Tickford XRs, quad lights, new edge styling, Herrod bi-plane...what newer XR has more wow factor, love it or hate it?)

B-Series just doesnt cut it for me, when the XR8 becomes a weekender only I will get a Fiesta/Focus a daily (if Im somehow cashed up an FG G6ET might be a nice daily though)

I bought my AU because it was the right ford at the right time, read CHEAP. Option 2.

However, I like it so much I would buy another, ie. P250 or T-Series! Option 3.

that an my old
man use to bring home all sorts of AU's from Ford as evaluation vehicles. Plenty of 5L's, Tickford optioned fairmont ghias, XR's, a few T-Series, and a worked P250. Loved it. Always will.

Theres just something about AU's that i like and also i like to be a little different aswell. There are so many 'other' models on the road whereas AU's not so much. This is my 2nd AU i had an SII XR6 HP before the TE but unfortunatly my affair with the AU will come to an end at the end of the year i think.

The other thing I love about it is that in my old commodore I was pulled up every second day of the week. The AU i've been pulled up once, and that was for a breath test after picking up some friends who decided to throw themselves across my bonnet in front of the police (was NOT happy about that).

I voted 'other'.

My reasons today for owning an AU is because it's by far my favourite 'Coon.
The XR range of AU's are one of the best looking Falcons Ford have made in a very long time. Maybe the best looking.

AU's have a fantastic mix of modern day refinement and old school rawness.

I've owned 5 AU's to date, and will likely own more in time, my current one is the P250, and that is now staying for my retirement fund.
I alo own 1/2 of a AU2 utilty hack.

I've also owned Falcons dating as far back as 1972.
1 x XA Falcon wagon.
2 x ZG Fairlanes.
1 x XD Falcon ute.
1 x XF Falcon ute.
2 x EA Falcon sedans.
1 x EB Falcon sedan.
1 x ED XR6 sedan.
1 x EF XR8 sedan.
1 x EF Fairlane.
5 x AU's.
1 x BA utility.

At this point in time, no other Ford is desirable enough to make me even slightly want to consider parting with the P250. Not even any of the wizz bang FPV FG's. Not even the upcoming Coyote.

Maybe a BMW M6 utility.......

A very happy one! IMO one of the best cars made they dont look ten years old (they still look current IMO) and the drive experience is as good or better than anything currently made by ford and it does not have the issues associated with drive by wire, TPS sensors or clunky drivelines that are more apparent in the later cars.

youre not alone my firend, I think they are a great looking car, always have always will. I passed up a BA XR8 when I bout my black 220 series 2 AUXR8, drove both and there was no coparison. Also recently upgraded our BA V8 ghia for a new FG, and kept the AU...nuff said

It was always going to be a choice of a Falcon. The AU rated better than the E series for insurance plus was newer too.

Next car may not be a Ford but there's still one other Falcon staying in the family.
