Had my 04 X-Trail since new, not quite 70,000km yet but hasn't missed a beat. Haven't had to fix/replace anything yet, and it gets a bit of a hammering with 4WDing. Very happy with it, definitely worth a test-drive.
The 2004 'Series 2' upgrade is worth seeking out if it fits the budget. Cheers.

Just saw this thread and thought of a few I shortlisted for my wife before getting the Lexus. Her list was "higher than gutters, safe and luxurious".
We looked at heaps but these seem to fit your bill: Volvo XC70 Audi Allroad Subaru Liberty Outback Subaru Forrester Have you had any joy yet? |

Thanks for your feedback
we have taken it all on board we looked at an X trail the right size but with the speedo in the middle it looked very strange like a mini from the sixties we will be checking out some more cars this weekend the Rav 4 is interesting also the Suburu Forester but if any one has something please let us know we will have a 2003 BA Fairmont Ghia with rego till Jan 2011 a current RWC with new tyres new radiator and reco trans it has to be used as a trade in which must to be sold to do the deal Like I said before we were offered 10k on a 15k Terry so that is the ball park figure any more ideas would be appreciated thanks John |

Or from left field, how about a Focus Zetec sedan or hatch only a year or so old, or even a Focus Ghia sedan? Both have a higher driving position than Falcon, are spacious, economical and very safe. Worth a look anyway.

It took me a few weeks to adjust to the central instruments in the X-Trail, but it's just natural now. If you regularly switch between two cars it might be a little different.
Many suggestions here don't seem to take into account the budget you mentioned - could you clarify? You looked at a Territory that was priced at $15k, and they offered you $10k trade-in, meaning a changeover price of $5k? Is that correct? An Escape/Tribute in the budget would probably be one of the older ones with the column shift auto, wouldn't it? I know what I'd rather adjust to... Cheers.

Hi all
thanks for all your comments and info we went shopping to day and looked at a Rav 4 an X trail and a Honda CRV well for the price the Honda took the bill we tested a 2001 model with the collumn shift then went for a run in a 2002 CRV with the still strange to me gear stick in the dash but has a fair bit of kit air windows locking and cruise tint and a tow bar so pretty well ticked all the boxes and all for $13990 drive away with rego and a warranty and it didnt hurt too much to hop into (that was the main reason for the change) so still no deal done yet but it looks like its a goer thanks for all your input John |

Check the servicing and parts costs on the Honda compared to the RAV and the Nissan before you hand your hard earneds over.
