V8 Roll Cage Slicks Aero Kit Suspension Brakes Harness and a race track Not going to get much closer to a V8 race expirence.... I sure it would be very responsible of them to tune all the cars to 360rwkw. |

Others may, but I felt disapointed. Sure they are responsible for each track user (eventhough a disclaimer is signed), driving an XR8 which looks like a supercar doesn't provide the 'experience' I expected or looking forward to. I'm sure many people left in their Magnas and Camrys who were very impressed. My comments are not to deter anyone from going.

just because these cars may not have the sheer acceleration of even a stock FPV - the handling was supreme, the look, feel, sound & smell certainly tickled the senses, and to do it on such an iconic track as Bathurst just topped it all off
... and judging by the cars in the carpark, there were plenty of KW on offer in the regular drives for many of the lucky few in attendance, I didn't see or hear of anyone complaining - if by chance there was anyone who walked away from that day disappointed with their experience they should probably have their pulse checked

My business partner Alister McRae (the rally driver for those who don't know) own and run SpeedAware which is the Parent company for McRae Motorsport here in WA. We run regular Performance Driver Training days (both one on one and Group days) over here in WA. As well as Drive and Ride Days (usually in either Porsche or Rally Cars) However, we have a close relationship with Ford through our Industry Driver Training as well as NuFord in Wangara who happens to be an FPV Dealer. Thats said, if we can get enough interest from guys on the forum I am pretty sure we could arrange something pretty special for forum members. If you are seriously interested send me an email via mark@mcraemotorsport.com.au if we can get 20 or more guys I am sure i could get something happening out at Barbagallo. That said we are looking to have more Ford guys at our Twilight Rallysprint Series this year. There are way to many Holdens and next to no Ford regulars

I agree that these cars do grip well.....
It's quite an experience driving with slicks. Here's a bit of footage from my V8 experience at Willowbank a few years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOSJN-uYLgM

I've got an invite to a car show at Lakeside on the 15th May, which includes some "happy laps". I'll see how that goes

Did eastern creek few years back as well in of course, the ford. Found the power lacking but could not believe the braking even the handling was unreal. Since got the bagt with handling upgrade but still the original braking while great would not match the race car. Iwould say the engine in the race car must have been the boss 260 or other wise the windsor ???? not surel of motor still worth doing by far!!!

i think you take it for what these drive days are,Just a fun safe way to have a drive in a "race car" at your local race track.
I agree we all expect them to be V8 Supercars but there not,If they were most drive day punters would end in the sand traps. They are a fun day out,Just dont expect to be lapping at the same times as Jamie Wincup. |

I did the John Bowe one. Where he drives you around in his FG.
Because I'm an old Cat Boy, he gave me a bit more around the corners, Lowndes style, one corner he had to back off the throttle a little, because we did a "Lowndes last lap last corner sideways" action.... LMAO... Best ever. Best 4 laps around Sandown ever.. My wife took a vid of it, but some of which she missed as she didn't know where the car was on the track. But she did capture the sideways action.... But it was in the style of of "cloverfield" shakey cam style....lol. Go do it, whether it's a drive or just a ride, sick as. Just a word or warning, if JB's out, he's out to get ya, meaning he'll overtake you V8SC style... If ever I could afford the Bathurst one, one white knuckle ride right there. |

Thought I'd revive this one, yes I realise it's years old.. Did 7 laps at sandown today, had a ball! I also agree the cars could do with a little more power but the grip and braking (compared to my AU that had APs and coil overs on semis) was awesome. Took me a few laps to get the feel for the track and the light drizzle was a little un-nerving but thoroughly enjoyed it. Spent 2 laps towards the end with a car right up my clacker only to realise it was an instructors car, had a run with him down the front straight side by side which was some serious fun! Got some nice (I think unwarranted) comments from my instructor and the driver of the lap car though, so I can't be "that" bad! Although keeping into it at the sweeper at the end of the back straight required a little more balls then I had! I nearly had a lose on the last corner of my laps, the instructor reaching for the wheel scared me more then the fact I thought I was going around!
Highly recommend it for the grip and braking alone, oh and the joy of hammering someone else's car around! Vid for those interested. http://youtu.be/q4g_ITT2gC8
