i like the raptor 345rwhp from mine with the basic tune. been 2yrs and hasn't missed a beat. very nice looking kits that can be polished and anodised. have a look at the picture of mine in the for sale thread to c how it mounts and fits inside the engine bay.

That's great power.

With mind I have been running a conservative 7lbs at the s/c. Not sure what it is at the engine after the intercooler. Still on stock internals on both the engine and box. Only a measily 275rwhp/205rwkw but its still going strong after the past 2 and a bit years with some sympathetic driving.

I spoke to my tuner today and said i'm keen on getting a s/c for the ute and am looking at the Raptor kit. He told me he has seen many Raptors fail on the dyno ( belts breaking, raptor itself failing ). He said spend the extra and go Vortech ... I told him alot of guys on here seem happy with the Raptor and have had no problems but he still stuck by his word on the Vortech ..

This is doin my head in

Did you change injectors? maf? running water/meth intercooler?
Also did you change fuel pumps etc? Just need an idea what people have done besides the tune.

What size injectors are you using?

345rwhp is impressive with just a tune and bolt ons added. I thought fuel pump and maf needed to be upgraded also? Nice ute btw

cheers been a great ute. i think the injectors were 41's. also in regards to the raptor vs vortech i think the vortechs r great my brother has a v2 on his ba producing 540rwhp but for something like yours and mine where it ain't healthy for the motor to go past 400 u can save yourself a good 2g and spend it on something else. also i have never had any belt issues and the newer ones have a been upgraded again i think.

Yeah i said to him i'm only looking around the 240 - 260rwkw and that's it but he smiled and said you'll want more i know you too well lol. I told him nah that's it and didn't wanna buy another block for more power etc, i think he believes that i'll be saving money in the long run with the Vortech if i want even more power but i'm happy to buy the Raptor and leave it at that.

Have had my Raptor on for over a year and so far so good...........I think the internal belt break is due to having the bov wound to tight and when you back off quick the throttle blade slams shut the bov cant vent enough backed up air charge and something has to give.

As XR23IL said and what Ive read the newer Raptors have lighter weight internals so less stress on the belt than earlier models.

Yeah from what i've read and heard from guys like yourself who use them all seems great, maybe the older style wasn't as good but i haven't seen a bad word written about them since looking into this.

I have the older unit on my car. run a 25mm bov and minimal boost and its still goin strong. the internal belt will need changing at 70,000 roughly. so I'll probably get mine done at years end as well some additional enhancements to the unit to help it spool up quicker.

As for the comments of raptors being unreliable I think its heresy unless you have seen it happen. but that's just my opinion.

Sadly I have seen it happen with my unit....cooked the "high speed ceramic bearings" at around 5000rpm. Tim fixed the problem and advised me they had been supplied with a batch of inferior bearings, so the newer units should all be good now (mine is about 18 months old)

I believe due to the raptor not being cooled but a sealed unit it will never be as reliable as the vortechs ect. however ive never heard many bad things and whenever i have tim has usualy fixed the issues promptly and with minimal fuss and i will be raptoring mine when money allows especially now theyve been improved!

I asked him about the cooling side and he said it's not a must but if you want every ounce of power out of it then the water/meth injection should be used. The Raptor seems a good product for $4500 and yes has been improved which is great but i've heard of Vortechs having problems also and they're $8000. If the Raptor has a problem i'm sure Tim would be more than happy to help sort it out.

I'm looking at injectors and i found a set on ebay from site sponsor BPRacing, they are 39lb, have a Ford racing & Bosch part number but require injector adaptors to suit the AU. Are these ok to use as in wont effect any performance etc?

That's good to hear Tim is covering it. you are the first I have heard of first hand that has mentioned any massive issues. raptor aren't invincible but their units are improving all the time.

For the 6 they will be fine as the ones that come with the kit are 36lbs. but for the 8 you may want to double check with Tim.

id just get a walbro to be on the safe side (500hp). Only about $130 or so will flow heaps for what you need. Better to do it before tuning, otherwise you will be wasting $$$ when he says its leaning up top

Also let me know how you go with injectors, im looking to purchase part no. m-9593-m39. Its an EV6 style uscar connection 39lbs ford motorsport injector. Also noticed ford motorpsort dont sell those green 42lbs anymore?

Im making a reverse rotation v3 vortech fit, should finish bracket template by tommorow.

Yeah id rather have it all done before tuning than go in half done that's why i'm asking all these questions. I've never heard of Walbro, who sells them?
The injectors i've emailed about are the 39lb type with the EV1 connector, they do the EV6 type also .. They look exactly like the injectors in the above pic. Check out US ebay, a few different places selling your EV6 type.

yep walbro are pretty comon, GSS341 is the one you need. You will also need an "INTANK" fuel hose, cant stress enough about this as even mechanics dont understand the difference between EFI fuel hose and intank.

Bosch 044 is the other fuel pump, rated a bit more flow then the walbro. but about $2xx or so. Walbro will do just fine.

Yup already checked US ebay, $400 a bit expensive i thought. Trying to source around for something not as much. Also on the topic of injectors, EV1 and EV6. Is there a difference in spray pattern with EV6 being the better?

Could only be good if you did a fuel pump upgrade...........I went the Walbro gss294 which flows 270LT/HR

A rising rate adjustable fuel reg would be a good idea to, something like the Aeromotive # 13103 is a goodie...........But just a heads up with the allen head mounting screws as they are different thread to the original ones, if you go a new fuel reg take it down to your local fastener shop to get something to fit, have a receipt for what you need 10-32UNF x 3/8..........Hope that helps cause it may as well be in Japanese for me.

Is there a difference in spray pattern with EV6 being the better?
lol you've lost me with this intank hose for the moment. I just checked ebay and saw some Walbro pumps. One of the sellers is only 20 mins down the road so i'll pop in and see them.
I thought i saw a set earlier for $267 Aus plus postage for the EV6 type. From what i can see the EV6 type are just a newer type, not sure on the differences besides plug adaptors.

All this is japanese to me atm lol, i'm used to carby cars not injected stuff. I'll suss it out when i get the pump.
