Why don't they just take them at birth, along with barcoding and gps chipping us, at our expense of course.

No issue with this.
Most mobile phones can be tracked and conversations listened into, so 'they' know where you are/were if need be. Surely the best way to live an anonymous life is to not have anything in your name, and not use a phone of any type. I've got nothing to hide, and if this happens to find a kiddie fiddler or a rapist then good.

Police have been doing this in NSW for decades! drink driving is a crime and drivers are treated accordingly.

i'm sure that in NSW, where it's been done, has only ever caught on person using this system. it's justification for expanding their database, nothing more.

amazes me how many people on here are ready to give up their 'freedom'.
Obviously the majority that support this have never lived in a totalitarian oppressed state. A national fingerprint database of every individual is a 'scary' thing indeed as it wont stop there. ps. i never ever drink drive or have been done for it and i do think the penalties for srial drink driving offenders are too 'soft'
