I stopped buying it a few months ago after 10+ years of buying every issue.
Got sick of seeing Torana, after Torana, after Torana, followed by Holden one tonner, after one tonner, after one tonner. Same old, same old Holdens issue after issue. Needs a more balanced range of cars, not just the same model Holdens all the time. |

Hi
I dont mind Street Machine as such what irks me is the owners of the cars with words like I built this all myself but I would like to thank Bill the panel beater Fred the Painter Charlie the Engine builder and Harry the upholsterer so what did they actually do flashed the credit card just my jealousy shining through I guess |

Perth Street Car magazine still does a decent job of putting a mix of cars in their mags.
Mind you, now that you mention one tonners and Toranas I had a quick gander through a few issues and there were a few. =/ Including the recent issue which has a Torana in it. I am only young (nearing 21) so I can't compare the mags from 80/90s onwards, but my old man has racked up quite a collection of Perth Street Car, and I've gone through 50 odd PSC mags. Much prefer them compared to Street Machine by a long shot |

If it hasn't got a Ford on the front, then i'm unlikely to buy it. That is my way of telling the editor I want to see a Ford on the cover. Pretty much if there is a Ford on the front i'll have a quick look whilst shopping and if there is some good stuff inside then i'll buy it. If there isn't a Ford on front i'll still have a gander but the contents needs to be pretty darn special. IMO Street Machine is about the elite cars, the showstoppers, the dream cars, the 'if i had the cash that would be awesome' type cars. Yes, there also needs to be some practical street / race / technical type stuff too. If I could add a suggestion. I think it would be pretty cool if they had a regular 'under 30k build' feature car. That's what I want to achieve with my retrotech XM Ute build.

Yeah I've got every issue back to about '85 but I stopped buying it a couple of years ago as it just was not...STREET Machine anymore...more like Street Ad's or Street Choppers...
The Trailer Queens have their place and make no mistake - were awe inspiring and cool, but if you go back they used to be more the 'feature article' rather than the bread and butter. There was also more focus / emphasis on the engine components etc in the build descriptions and there was also more 'tech' or nuts & bolts stuff in there. A lot of non-trades people could pick up some good info back then. Now it's just..."oh and it has a 350 Chev. Anyway, back to the neon gear knob set-up...." Mix it with the quirky stuff (like Blo-Bak et. al.) and good quality genuine streeters and you had a good mix - hence the mags' quality credibility. Times change and 'most' kids are more interested in Rice Drifters now, which also have their place but in times when you are more likely to 'mod' your car with a laptop rather than a socket set / torque wrench and a new Holley...I am not surprised the mag is full of 'in your face' and 'shiny and noisy' stuff to try and seduce / keep the core readership. And I miss Planko. JMHO.

But,youll never sell a magazine if its dedicated on builds, pictures of shells and panels, and engines in a gazzillion bits, whatever the brand I wouldnt buy a magazine if it had pages of builds if it didnt interest me,just a waste of money Jump on any dedicated or personal interest forum and youll find whatever you want In this day and age of electronic media, its great that a magazine like Street Machine can still sell as many magazines as it does One of if not the biggest australian selling magazine ,im sure it wont miss a few lost sales here and there |

I buy it, flick then wonder why I paid for it. Need to stop paying for junk.
I recently through out a lot of old SM's, I don't think one has been a good read in 10 years.
