One of the fleet cars at Dad’s work (they were all near new Falcons turned over every 2 years, I think it was an XE) got T-boned. The assumed it was a write-off, but the insurance company bought a new body from Ford and rebuilt the car. Seemed weird even at the time. Thinking back now, I really doubt Ford did such things? I assume it was really a body from another wreck?

Suppose you had a current model GT, and you somehow got it turned around and hit a pole RIGHT where the compliance plate is. Provided the car was not a write-off, would it be legit to replace those panels with new ones.
you can buy a new body from ford and rebuild a car like buying any other part but it will have its own id plates and vin I had enquired from ford a while back about a ba shell as I had 1 1/2 wrecks and thought to rebuild but ended up parting out , when I enquired they were down to a few hundred shells left

its criminal what hes doing to it
recon its still rebuildable but for what he wants hardly makes it viable

i know a few people that believe as long as the firewall is original, then the car is an original, even if the rest of it has been completely restored - ie, new panels, not fixed up original ones.

i remember a story of a HO that got burnt in a shed fire (and i mean burnt to a crisp) and then the car got restored and is still considered to be an original.

its a debate that probably would never end.

Things like that did happen. I was doing my apprentiship at a Ford dealer in Brisbane and did some time in their panel shop. I remember a XA GS panel van coming in that had been hit really hard. A young guy owned it and wanted it written off but the insurance company bought a brand new shell from Ford, put it next to the wreck and got me to fit anything that was salvagable from the wreck (mech wise) and fit new parts if damaged. I remember his Father coming in to have a look and said it would never be the same after it was repaired.
I said to him he was right as this car was put together by one person for mechanical, one for the trim work and one for the painting. This car would be FAR better than anything off the production line.
When we finished putting it all back together, he drove it straight up to the car lot and traded it for a new one. Could not believe it!!

I,d give my right arm to find an old GT like that and preserve its history while using it and not having to worry about putting a stone chip on it or what ever. You could actually enjoy the experience of owning a GT. Dont get me wrong i love em all, but the crusty ones tell a story.

I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but don't make the mistake of thinking I come to a battle of wits unarmed. I can more than hold my own.

GTHO's thou nice, do not interest me. There have been many threads where postings have been made stating the compliance plate was taken. For example, when the now restored Phase IV was on show there was a story about a young kid trying to lever it off the vehicle. Others have stated that they remove the compliance plate off their HO's and store them in a safe. My question was of genuine request for knowledge. If you are that good at reading minds then you will have no problems with what I am thinking now.

Cheers Vincenzo

I'm reminded of Captain Cook's axe. Half of the NZ population is said to have it: each version has only had the blade and handle replaced...
interesting question.. for me its as long as the strut tower remains intact with the turret.. go for it..

The bushman GT. It is being kept original just the way it is. And it looks great in my opinion- they are only original once.

Love these old cars, they've got character

knowing that these old things are still getting around with all that wear and tear makes me feel better about my old cars, which are far from perfect...

proves that if you've got a good design it will still look good no matter how much rust, scratches, or dents it picks up

in fact I reckon they look better with a bit of age on them

I didn't know they had 164L tanks though!

Who cares.
If he did want to sell it he would want what? 100K? Yep 100k for a rusted out falcon.
Think i'd rather spend that kind of money on a new SC GT and still have change.
Seriously he must have problems to just let it sit there.

No it's not like it hasn't been done before now has it, no one has ever tried to palm of a faker but being a public forum and all, maybe we should consider what we type before hand.

If you had of read or quoted my other post in reference to his you would see what I mean't and my thought's on the matter upmost, I also was not the only one to mention what was said by him about doing so on a public forum, didn't care to quote the other person though did you, who also mentioned it before me .

Anyway my point being is that anyone that wishes to do such a thing should suffer more then just the law, god help them I say.

A guy in Tassie who sold a Gt that ended up being a fake. He did jail time for fraud.. That should be a lesson to other guys changing ID plates or selling fake muscle cars.
