I think they should make 300 of the 2016 GTHO's, and paint them the same colours as the 1971 Phase 3's, auctioning off the more desirable "1 off" colours.

Any photos of this, I do not buy car mags, have not bought one for about 6 years (apart from two, one had my car on the cover and another had it as a centerfold, so thought I better grab a copy)

I'm sure Ford would be happy to rebadge something else as a Falcon GT for the 50th anniversary if they thought there was a dollar in it?
Hmm .. Mondeo Falcon GT Anniversary Edition .. Where the Falcon GT part becomes a "package" rather than a model .. |

Wouldn't mind if Ford went full-circle for a GT in 2017 - from one of the photoshopping threads; Something like this in GT Gold with some styling cues from the whole GT range - a pillarless coupe with a fat rear, XR style stripe, wheel arch blackouts, power bulge, all that.

I wouldn't be suprised if FPV were still using those same wheels in 2016 either
Seems like they have had a longer run than snowflakes. |

So, you want Ford to build a car in October 2016, with a 10/2016 compliance plate, park it in a yard for a couple of months, and sell it as a 50th Anniversary model?
Apart from the obvious Trade Practice issues, I’m not sure why anybody would want anything so pathetically un-genuine? Might as well put some stripes on a Mondeo and call it a GTHO. It’s sad that the GT won’t make 50. It’s sad that the Falcon won’t make 60. It’s all just sad, but wishing won’t change it.

It doesnt need to be a 50th anniversary GT, just for the sake of commemmorating anniversaries.

Well technically, if year 1 was 1967, 2016 is year 50.........

with my flame suit on, id say the final phase occured in 1972 with the phase four. no point calling anything a gtho as its not relevant. whats raced is not what is bought. leave the gtho name alone its immortal and doesnt need to be tarnished with a clearance model at the demise of the falcon name.

So glad Ford didnt have the same attitude with the GT.
The real reason for the HO wasn't to win races - it was to win races to promote the brand - and so sell more cars. So a new GT-HO would be true to the original reason. Win on Sunday sel on Monday doesn't apply anymore, so why not use it now - to sell more cars? If they did create one, I would be back in the market, and I have bought a modern GT.

There will be some future special editions, but it looks like the GTHO is in the just too hard basket. The engine is up to it, but the body and rear end aren't, nor is the platform capable of harnessing the grunt without a tonne of work. Thats the official line.

edit: ahh, 200 since Ford took over, thats not a bad figure then. I wonder if it would be at all worth FPV stockpiling a few cars towards the end of 2016 ... it will be far easier to sell a GT than an XT. Last edited by b0son; 29-05-2013 at 10:06 AM. |

Not sure if true but a truck driver dropping off a GT at our dealership yesterday said that there was a GT stolen from the plant since the anouncement.

Sorry to burst a few bubbles here, but unless Ford gets their cheque book out there will not be a GTHO, as they no longer own the rights to that name plate. It's now owned by the family of ex Ford designer Wayne Draper.
That being said I would love to see a special range to celebrate the end of Falcon GT. My cynical side tells me Ford wouldn't be willing to invest a lot of money in it (why would they?) so I would expect it to be a special colour with a few badges, perhaps.

I wonder which way the value of the rights to the GT-HO name went after the announcement.....

Yeah no idea.
I hear Mr Draper offered it back to Ford some time back but they declined. :(
