Free dyno upgrade day. Yeah doesn't sound likely. I'm pretty sure if you were pranking your mate, you'd know what car they have.

I was having a chat with a friend of mine tonight and he told me something similar happened there last year. Turns out they use a laptop or a mobile PC with some software called VCM suite and all they need to do it plug it into the car and load the tune.

Wish my mates were that smart in their pranks.
Cleverest thing they've ever done was putting a sausage in my toilet at a BBQ |

Still need to buy the licence credit using VCM suite, so would have cost them at least 60-80 bucks. You can have a look at all the parameters using VCM suite for free but not modify and compare them to stock if you know someone with the software.

Do you mind if I borrow your story to tell my wife the Mazda had another tune when I only booked it in for a Dyno run? $300 magically disappeared from our bank account to the Horsepower factory.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but it would cost anyone money to tune your car, prank or not. All tuning software/piggy back devices that I am aware off are either coded to a vehicle or require separate licenses for. I will definitely be using this story though.

FOOTSCRAY Dyno day Eh?? AND free remote mystery tune?
Dyno-Mite are pretty bloody good at what they do but that's just a doozy! I was there that day. After a car was driven off the rollers, it was handed straight back to the owner at the front door.. If this story has the slightest element of truth in it (which I VERY strongly doubt) then it was your fault for leaving the keys in it!
