It isn't as if insurance on classics is prohibitively expensive or anything. Why in God's name was it uninsured?????? There are no excuses.
Hope the innocent parties recover quickly. |

It's about consequences, and it will be interesting to see if the driver gets a harsher penalty than that female, drunk socialite who knowingly got behind the wheel absolutely s#itfaced, but was fortunate enough not to hurt/kill/maim anyone. To blow 0.181 AFTER (a)a prang, (b) adrenaline and (c) Police have been involved, the pre-prang figure must have been closer to 0.25? Link here:

Basically NSW CTP/Greenslip insurance is there to cover any third party that is injured by your motor vehicle. In this instance there is no valid CTP so the only way the victims here are going to get any long term injury costs/bills covered is to sue the driver, which wont be pretty if he ends up in gaol for his actions. You're right, there are no excuses for driving an unregistered car like that... |

The insurance company would not have covered him regardless as he was driving unlicenced.
They find any loop hole not to pay.

Is there a charge for Too Fast, Too Furious Driving?
What if the driver was in a good mood? |

I can picture it. The car has just been finished so the owner thought he'd take his new toy for a quick fang. What could possibly go wrong?

I can drive home drunk and drive into a parked car or drive head on into on coming traffic and kill a family of four. My actions are the same (driving drunk) but the penalty will be based on the final outcome. |

It is possible to insure an unrego'd car, I'm doing just that at the moment. Theft and damage while in the shed basically, I can't drive it however....
I feel sorry for the people involved in the house. They should be covered by their own insurance who will pursue the driver for financial recovery. I'm not sure however if he will have to pay a cent depending if he finds himself having to declare bankruptcy, a radical move considering what stands to lose taking that path. Either way, I imagine a cheap XW GT will be finding it's way on the market fairly soon. |

Its odd how the "steering wheel come off".
Anyone tried taking a steering wheel off before and had to yank and rip at the wheel as hard as they can before it will even budge? Or is this problem only on modern cars? Points to you who left the nut on slighty, saves the trip to the doctors. |

We all know how the reporters work. Maybe a steering failure or the most probable cause being someone going beyond their capabilities. I guess it will all come out in the wash. .

Bit of a dumb thing to do though, driving like a jackass on a shake down run with a couple of females aboard.

And I do not trust the papers to report correctly either. "All four women were injured — with the pregnant friend flown to hospital with serious leg and facial injuries — but all survived, including the unborn baby. “It’s a bloody miracle,” Mr Vella said yesterday" http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/new...-1226963368337 .

You’re right, there seems to be a lot of speculation. That newer article you’ve linked also says witnesses reported to police they saw the vehicle become airborne. Are some members getting info outside of the police release and news items because they know the people involved? If the steering wheel came off it makes you wonder why it’s fitted to the column in the photos. |

If you read the articel in the paper, it says witnesses saw the XWGT become airborne??? What speed limit is that street 50 or 60 km/h? Sounds like he might have been going a little quicker or a lot quicker!
Hopefully the lady hasnt lost the baby! That would be terrible for all concerned.

If you google map (street view) the street you will see there is no gutters and there is a small rock garden, which would of acted as a ramp |
