The Mustang is far from not practical though, you have to remember that in the US these are peoples daily drivers. Mine has had the surfboard in the back and the mountain bike, it does the grocery shopping most weeks and does the commute to work. It does road trips and has even followed the WRC over gravel roads. They are what you make of them. |

The last time a Mustang had better handling than a Falcon was 1966. Unless they nobble it, the XR8 will **** all over the Mustang in every department... EXCEPT, perhaps the most important, The Mustang is a MUSTANG, the XR8 is a Falcon. I know which one I'll be driving (if I have the coin) which won't be the same as the one I have on my wall.

It's really very simple, do you want the legendary 5.0 in NA form or supercharged from the factory?...
Based on the specs in your post, the Stang has 188kW/tonne vs 210kW/tonne for the XR8 and we all know what the Miami is capable of with just a tune so in terms of performance potential, the XR8 will "you know what" all over the Mustang ! And of course the XR8 has a proper back seat for those times when you need to show off to your mates or maybe get busy with that hot date But if you just wanna look cool, can't go past the Stang.

Ford should bring the Aus Mustang out with an intercooled Miami. But I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to charge the Mustang, considering the availability of bolt-ons in the US

Be easier just to buy a Roush or the kit at least, I'd have more faith in Roush than Ford Australia.

If by "Handling" you mean the American definition, which is a comfortable ride through the drive-thru, then sure.
Tell you what then, I'll buy an XR8, you buy your Mustang. I suggest you order it in brown, and when we meet up that brown stuff on your windscreen will be my XR8 ****ting allover the Mustang. Until that day you have nothing but hope, I have 50 years of history.

Sorry mate but between both my parents they have a Roush and a S/C GTP. Lets just say the Roush runs circles around the GTP through the twisties.
However the GTP is Alot comfier. Especially in the back .

And here's the tip:
Hows about all you "oh the Falcons are so ****, Mustangs are so wonderful, I'd buy one in a heartbeat" Muppets just shut the **** up, go down to Ford put your order in, Pony Up your money, and come back when you've actually BOUGHT a Mustang and have something to talk about. Till then your hot air is just irritating.

Watch the video I posted, wipe the egg off your face and tell us again why you think the Falcon is so much better than the Mustang.

Cant wait for the Shelby and Roush ones are out. Been watching Shelby masked cars going around the Nürburgring.

The XR8 will be six years old (bit like yourself) and the stang is brand new and is a coupe which is also smaller/lighter so naturally more nimble. |

You dont have to be single, there is a good chance I will clear the TE50 and the GTV for a new Mustang as it combines both good things of those two cars for me.
I also prefer na to fi so the Mustang wins there too, plus the C4 is the family hauler. Problem is I do love the falc and alfa alot so im not to sure if I can do it, but that new stang is so sexy!

The op allready stated that practicality, amoung other things is not a priority when choosing between the two....did everyone miss that.
But despite myself not buying either....if I was in your position I think I'd go the last xr8, and then let the mustang hype settle a bit then go for that next. Plenty of time for mustang |

You guys have been had.. Discussing a question in which the "chopstar87I" started and has never responded?
Is it just me, or did he just start this post as a laugh, He is just about to pay off a Focus, so hey his wife suddenly wants an XR8 or a Mustang? Is he sure that "she" wants it or he does? Sounds like wishful thinking considering I am married and been down this road before!...lol If he is going to trade. Why not trade the 300? Anything has to be better than that try-hard gangster car! If and when purchase is made. Pic's or it didn't happen! Last edited by AU1XLS; 28-08-2014 at 09:54 PM. |

I thought it was answered pretty early on. Good to see you responded to answer the OP after pointing that out though. :P
Also the 300c lost the gangsta look with the new model... However it looks like he is talking about possible purchases at the end of next year. A lot can change in that time so anything at the moment is just tyre kicking so to say. All in all the mustang will be a better drivers car will be loaded with allot of tech, more modern interior, nicer materials used on the inside. Whilst most the XR8s value will be sentimental. If your after a quick fun car to drive and don't need the rear seats like the OP mentioned go the stang. If you want something to remember and support Australian manufacturing one last time go the XR8 as it will be the last opportunity ever to own a New Falcon.

when word of the final GT came along i was ready to let go of my owned since new 2005 BA GT, which i did. i went to my local Ford dealer to enquire about GT-F and got a blank look from the sales manager, as much to say "sorry mate, you're too late, you've missed out".
v8 engined, rear wheel drive performance cars are my thing, regardless of door count (my littlins are now biggens). enter the 2014 Mustang that Ford promised to bring to Australia. back down to my local Ford dealer for some info like, when, what and how much. response was, um maybe last quarter 2015, dunno and no idea. hmm, this guy is not filling me with huge confidence about his products. on facebook and a friend sends me a pic of the black xr8, as seen in the "last ever falcon" thread. i then read the whole thread to gain all the info needed to weigh up the decision that this thread suggests. my cook doesn't care which one i get, she knows my pain of selling my 9 year old pride and joy, so just wants me to be "happy". my decision will be the loacally built xr8 due to 2 reasons. 1st one being it will be the last falcon and actually looks a lot more modern than the now 6 year old FG. i will have this car for at least the next decade, and in my mind it will be special because Ford won't make them anymore. 2nd is that awesome from factory 335 engine. when i read that xr8 will be getting the s/c 5.0litre it then became a no brainer as when the time comes, this engine will be mildly modified and obviously tuned to far exceed factory output. the Mustang will need a lot more money (engine wise) to gain the same output, on top of this i believe the retail price will be higher than the xr8 in the first place. in a weird way of thinking, i can still have a GT335 but dressed in a more subtle body kit. i'm not missing out this time |

Not sure what Crazy Dazz was talking about, he made it sound like the Mustang had similar handling to a 1979 Lincoln Continental. Even the live-axle car gives the M3 a run for its money, I was amazed how flat it sat, how well it gripped, and how comfortable the ride was. The 2015 Mustang will be in a whole other league again, I'm sure.

Thanks for the discussion guys....
Yea the missus wants the Mustang more then me... before the focus, she has had a WRX and multiple SS (standard and worked), she is missing the power and she has always had a thing for a mustang (she is a bit of rev head), I like the mustang also (I would want a GT500 or whatever the replacement will be called if it comes to OZ). I am keeping the 300c luxury, as it has all the features and mod cons (don't make me list them out lol) and is super comfy and I personally love the look of it, if we need to transport more then 2 people, it would be in the 300c. by also keeping the 300c, it gives flexibility in the 2nd car, as practicability is covered. probably 85% of the time, each of our cars only have 1 person in them. plus been 6ft 5, the focus is not the most comfortable place for me. Hell the when the time comes, we might decide on something completely different. but its crossed my mind, what would I go with... I am ford fan, I have always wanted to have a mustang and this will be our first joint car. but again, its the last falcon... I'll be keeping the Chrysler til the Next Gen Dodge/Chrysler product hits Australia and hopefully a Charger/Challenger will make in it here in RHD officially.. Fingers crossed for next gen Hellcat. there is no kids or anything in the future, so that's not a factor either... as I said, I could completely go a different direction when the times comes, but reading the new falcon section, I was like, which one will I go??? and also what will everyone else will go as a side thought, and their reasoning behind their decision. SO the discussion is not just about my situation, but also what is going thru everyone's else mind that regarding probably the same decision, as I am sure I am not the only thinking about it. so at the moment, its tyre kicking for sure... just thought I would open the floor up for an open discussion on the 2 vehicles.

mustang rear seats are small - yes you can fit a 6'4 person in there but it aint comfortable and definitely a no go for road trips. Also a pain to get kids in and out of for females (I personally dont think its that hard)
I dont know about the new mustang but the last one (2013) was no great handler (in US spec) but they may change the suspension tune for the Aus version. I hope the new one is better (it should be) but the last one was really just a typical slightly less fat american rwd sedan with 2 doors and less rear seat room. I dont have high hopes for it here. I'd say it will be half as popular as the xr6 turbo ute is once initial demand is accounted for. as for the OP - solution is easy - last Aussie V8 (which is also SC). Keep it forever |
