Default Re: ITS HULK FRIDAY!!! People that spend too much on a falcon?

if cars are not an investment, why do people ask big overs for BF Cobra or Tickford T3s? Sometimes more than what they paid.

They will write a big song and dance how its the best most exclusive ford ever made, talk about the heritage, how pleasurable it is to own one etc etc and then offer them for sale? to flog them off at an extortionate price?

Enjoyment/substance wise these cars dont offer too much, certainly not proportionate to what these owners are asking or what you could buy for the same sort of money.

Are these owners genuine knockabout car lovers? or investors trying to trap someone?

Because they can.

Cars are not an investment.
However, some cars will hold there value much better than others. This is based on several things, including pedigree, brand, and rarity.

Good luck to them.

It's not extortionate if someone is willing to pay it.

Maybe not to you, me, or even the next guy, but to someone it does.
It's all subjective.

It doesn't matter, only dummies get trapped.
Buyer beware, always.

I'm actually thinking of getting low km BF GT of F6 and having a "play" with it, leaning towards ther F6 for "bang for your Bucks" but struggling to go past a GT and that V8 sound.....(first world problems). Pretty dam cheap now as a base so why not tuck one in a garage.

$30 or 40K you'll get a cracker, I love old GTs but gees for 30K you're just buying a rust bucket...

As for spending too much or over capitalising...it's a hobby.

Buy a stock C63 today sell it in a few years and would have just p! ssed away $40 or $50K in depreciatrion.

You play you pay.

So in your analogy, the Falcon the WORST street. You can really be offensive in your posts.

In a previous thread about "Falcons being rubbish", you were an active contributor, constantly talking down the Falcon.

I mentioned then that i also own a 911 and a Cayman S, and then in my book, my F6 (didn't have my GTF at that stage) was every bit as good as these cars, and on road runs I do with my Porsche mates, I have from time to time taken my F6, and the F6 had shown them up in straight line and in the curvy country roads. Around a tight track of course my 911 and Cayman would have my F6, but on aussie roads, too everyone's surprise, the F6 was quicker (love that mid range torque haha)

Suddenly you (and a bunch of anti Falcon commentators) jumped on me, saying I was a joke for comparing Porsches, to Falcons, i had guys quoting me 911 turbo and GT2 acceleration times (forgetting Carerras, Caymans and Boxsters), and you telling me that you have "a mate" with lots of supercars" and based on your experience driving his cars, Porsche is so much better, Falcons are rubbish.

People who don't own Porsches telling someone who actually owns them how much better Porsches are than Falcons. Conveniently forgetting that while corner/braking superstars, Caymans, Boxsters, and Carreras can be matched or done over in a straight line and in country roads by a stock FG F6 (lets not even discuss modified)

Obviously I am a Porsche lover too (not as much as Ford though), and as an owner of an F6 and GTF, and 911 and Cayman S, and I want to share with you all, performance Falcons are not the WORST, but are amongst the best in performance cars that are made (excluding supercars and high end $300k plus Porsches), even better for the value they present and the access they provide to the everyday Aussie to experience supercar like performance for a ridiculously low price.

In your eyes Falcons may be compromised by 5 seats, weight, handling comparisons to more expensive dedicated sporting euros. In my eyes however they are even better for the fact that you can get the performance we get with a good looking interior (I disagree with motoring journalists on this one), comfort (at 6"3 i've never found seat height a problem, and more head/leg room with Falcon is awesome for me), daily driver and practical enjoyment (can park our cars without fear of green envy damage - can't do that with my Porsches) , space for luggage, space for friends and family, great looking sedan etc etc the list goes on.

Stop wasting your time bagging Falcons out constantly in your threads, go visit an Audi forum instead , quote your "Vorsprung durch Technik" and watch them laugh as you try and impress them.

To carry on with your analogy, in my view, "the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence", but it takes crossing over to the other side for you to realise that what you already had was Fantastic.
This is something you obviously haven't done, otherwise you would be over on the various euro car forums and not sitting here bagging out your Falcons over and over again.

I have tasted the best of performance cars, and I appreciate the Falcon, (and the performance versions) more than ever.

Never take what we have for granted...we are, and have been so lucky to have the Falcon

You have summed yourself up with one of your own comments from the above quoted post.

"it seems all they are interested in is bragging rights, I have the most power or im the quickest"

So with all your talk of C63 BBQs and all your ultra rare , mint muscle cars you have just shown you are no different then any of us *******.
The difference is we have no problem admitting we are a retard.

Is buying a new car overcapitalising in the first place?
Buying a slightly used car, then spending 1/4 of it's worth in savings would have you a nice car.

Aside from that though, people know very well what they're getting in to.
No-one expects to increase the value of their car in proportion with the value of their mods.
I dare say the majority is simply the fun of personalising, then there's those that simply choose a 'base' to use for an ultimate goal. (The actual car is basically irrelevant in the latter case. )

Most punters will modify their cars over time when the coin dribbles in.
Not many spend all the coin at once in one big splurge on the one day - hence the amount spent is amortised over the life of the car. When you take this into account - it isnt much....... especially considering most Falcons arent budget busting purchases to begin with.

Modding your car over a long period of time probably works out cheaper than the depreaciation of constantly changing cars to keep up with the tech / power etc... And , once you start , you are likely to have some emotional attachment to the car as well, which changes your mindset about selling it.

Also - at the time you are modiing it - you basically have no idea of what's coming doen the pipe in terms of new models from Ford etc -
I doubt that people supercharging their BA XR8's back in 2003 - 2004 had any idea that there would be a supercharged XR8 in 2015, and even if they did, how many would wait 11 - 12 years just so they wouldnt overcapitalise on their initial purchase.

Time is too short for some. If you have the coin - spend it and have fun NOW. No one knows what's around the corner and like some that mod their cars - I dont always want to wait and find out. So I mod my cars NOW , have fun with the understanding that I wont get my money back. That's fine with me.

No chance.

He paid $236K for an FPV GT...

Ford donates $236K to charity....Ford gets a $236K Tax deduction.

Why is it always about money and resale for you Hulk?
Many owners (enthusiasts) mod a car because they enjoy the process. I know none of my cars have been modified with the thought "****, this should double the profit when it comes time to sell".

No, it's called buying/building the car you want.

Do we need to stop living under a shell and first look at what other cars can be had for the total intended spend? (If excessive spend is planned)
I draw the line at having the ideal car for me relative to what I can afford. If that means spending more money on mods than what it cost to buy the car, then so be it.

You left out from the other thread that you were comparing a modded new model FPV F6 to a 1980s/1990s Porsche.

Im not saying Falcons are rubbish, I own three of them!! But they are what they are, no good spending too much money on them is my point. Accept them for what they are being a rugged big affordable family car with decent performance. But if you want to spend Mercedes money...buy a Mercedes...simple isnt it?

And there is everyone's problem with you Hulk.

That is YOUR opinion. Do not assume it should apply to all.

Sure there are better cars, but read what has been posted and see that it is not what 'modding' is about.

Any person that is partial to modding will only end up spending more money after purchasing said Mercedes. It will just be much more expensive to do anything

Did you even read any of the replies, why start a thread if you don't hear what people say.
It isn't about the money for many people, they buy a car they want and mod it how they please. They enjoy the process and personalising their car.
Comparing a modded Falcon to a MB is not even relevant, two entirely different cars. Not really simple at all (much like these threads).

Not at all, Hulks threads are great.
They encourage discussion about various topics, are full of diverse opinions, and interestingly bring out the worst in a lot of people.

I find it fascinating how people can get so worked up over a topic they claim they're not interested in.

The way I see it is, if you don't like it, then don't reply to it, yet the same people keep rolling in.

Anyway, moving on, I'm sure it will be closed by tomorrow, can't wait for next weeks installment...

Go back and read that thread, I said my stock fg f6 (2009) beat my mates 997 carrera 4s (that's a 2007 - 2012 model).

My 911 carrera is a 996 model. You or one of the others (I can't be bothered going back to find out who it was now) to try and support your argument joined to unrelated facts to create a complete lie to the say my modified f6 (which i had stated is stock) beat an older porsche, then the rest of the negative contributors joined in, either aware of that lie or blinded to details by their predetermined position. At that point I gave up bothering to waste my time with you and others.

Congratulations, you've misconstrued facts again publicly to try and support your position, lies built on previous lies do not make a fact.

I'm tired of your negativity, you thinking creating threads with your name in it glorifies yourself and makes you feel important, but it just showcases your need for external validation. Don't worry, I won't contribute to your threads anymore, no matter how much rubbish you spread.

Buy a stock C63 today sell it in a few years and would have just p! ssed away $40 or $50K in depreciatrion.

You play you pay.
I dont often agree with your posts - but I do with this one 100%
I dare say this HULK thread has made us see eye to eye....... OMG there is some positivity to this after all..

As said previously, my thread is to encourage participation from a wide diverse group.. It's inclusive, there's no punishment for disagreement with my view. Say your piece, let the community decide what they think is correct.

I don't gain anything from this question being determined, it's a pub discussion..

I read too many threads during the week about member specific problems, or which exhaust threads... trying to take knowledge from the community for their own personal gain. These sort of threads are largely to exclude members, only relevant to the OP and only benefit the OP..not much relevance to the readers. This thread is to encourage different views from different participants. Get your mind off work and enjoy your weekend starting off with some car talk, something we all enjoy.

Just from reading your original post you seem so uptight about resale or who the next owner will be.
I have probably spent too much on my car but oh well its my hobby. I buy a car for myself to enjoy and you seem to buy one for the next bloke to enjoy

Why question a bloke for doing what he thinks is the thing for him?

I could blow 10k tomorrow on a 2004 Nissan Pulsar and turn it in to next months Fast Fours cover car and it will be known by all for all of 2 seconds before it's history.

Not 2 ****s would be given what you thought about me doing that.

People do it to please themselves, no different to buying the newest phone, biggest tv or putting a gas-sucking electricity-sapping 8 seater party spa in their backyard for weekend parties.

Hulk,

This from your recent thread, re your possible sighting of a Phase 4:

"Driving along in a amg c63 approx 2 hours ago from sydney cbd to home on wattle street leichardt I saw a red XA falcon GT. Number plates were "HO 4".. there was a sticker on back window that said GTHO phase 4."

Mate. Assuming that the above mentioned, and none too subtly nominated AMG C63 is actually your very own and paid for vehicle, I find it rather amusing that you of all people should be making negative comment about over capitalising in a particular vehicle.

I tell you what - enjoy that Merc for the next ten years and if you look after it well, I'll swap you a damned good ride-on mower and a carton for it . . .

Russ.

I don't think I would ever pay more for a car than what it costs new.

But a bloke has got himself a nice car and a charity has got a $200+k donation. Everyone is a winner.

Well done Hulk, I'm going to nominate you for thread starter of the year.

Absolutely, good on this bloke who had the dough and balls to do it.

It's certainly true to a point. There are cars available that excel in certain areas and to ignore that isn't necessarily practical. No one has ever said car enthusiasts are practical however.
It's perhaps more narrow minded to not accept their choices.
Personally I do feel there's a sensible limit as to what should be spent on certain cars, and I would prefer to spend more on a car which is more capable, however each to their own.

I'm with you on this. I think the more rare and exclusive a car is, the less it should be tampered with. History proves that unmolested examples of classic rare cars hold there value better.

I shed a tear at some of the things people have done to rare and exclusive cars.
But again, each to their own, and we must respect every ones choices.

Very true, the old adage comes to mind, 'you can't polish a ****'.
I mean that in the most respectful way as I love my Falcons, however I recognise they are no BMW.

Whatever makes you happy.

Maybe, but it also depends on what that market value is.
Personally I wouldn't spend any where near an additional 30k on a 60k car.
However I wouldn't hesitate to spend more than 5k on a 10k car.

Yes, to a point.
I think totally re-engineering a car to make it something it wasn't meant to do is a bit pointless, particularly when an alternate car is available for less money.

Some simply like to prove a point though, or just like that particular car, and that's ok too.

It's not up to anyone else what we do with our cars.
I agree....great thread hulk. All these negative commenters should get banned for constant thread hacking!

I think everyone likes different things in cars.....hence some want all the latest gadgets to keep up with the "jones" while others keep chasing power or drag times. Both are not smart money choices but people will spend what they have. The more they make....the more they spend.

Buying any car is overcapitalising, because you will never get your money back unless it's a rare classic.
I'm not one to spend 50% of my cars value on mods. But any mods I do because I can afford it, don't need the money back and because I want that mod done to my car for my own benefit, not for the next owner
