LOL...a HWP risking himself to pull someone out of a wreck? Not bloody likely mate...unless there's some demerit points in it. It's always the same story...the chase was called off just before the crash....about 30 milliseconds beforehand.... Ask any paramedic about how useless a HWP is at a scene. Directing traffic is about it. I don't care what so called credentials they are given, 160km pursuits in the suburbs are just plain stupid....the crack head they are pursuing isn't an excuse cause the harder they pursue the harder the idiots drive to get away, better to use your head than the accelerator pedal I say. By giving the HWP supercars is endorsing the pursue at all costs culture. That's my opinion. |

I've been talking to my local police Sgt about this issue and he said that Qld will be using the Mustang as part of their Highway patrol fleet.

As far as so called credentials go, they can drive the butt off of most of the general population. Granted for every decent HWP copper out there there is one idiot one but, your statement is still ill informed and typical of a keyboard critic. |

If NSW HWP do start using the Mustang, that will at least keep that menacing presence on the roads. By the way I don't mean the Police menace people, more trying to say the HWP cars are intimidating...

Back on topic how cool is a mustang going to look all marked up, especially in some of the Hi Vis markings some of the coppers are using these days

A 2 door car isnt an ideal situation if you apprehend a crim and you need to put him somewhere. You don't always have a GD van just around the corner waiting for you to pinch someone, Police cars need to be versatile, user friendly, durable and help you do the job, not hinder you.

Actually around my way they use those Yamaha offroad four wheeler buggies around town as police vehicles. (Obviously great access too malls, footpaths and little one way streets and so on) I wondered how they pass the safety requirements on the road
Edit....not that I've seen any of them anywhere but on the road but I assume they're cheap and small so they are used. And u can't put crims in the back of them either! Last edited by 1TUFFUTE; 13-02-2015 at 08:18 PM. |

Umm this one: http://www.uniden.com.au/australia/p...96xt_index.asp
Picks up Police in all regions in country Vic, I can get both sides of a conversation as clear as a bell from coppers all up the Calder to Bendigo. Radio traffic is meant to be encrypted in Melbourne and Sydney but I was getting police traffic in Melbourne on Monday from the train on the way home, along with the guys on the railroad frequencies. Surprisingly most of the Police traffic is pretty mundane, rego checks, license checks, domestic violence... I actually bought it for the CFA frequencies, the area I live moved over to digital mid-last year, but I seeem to have missed that email |

For what it's worth the one I have isn't the only scanner capable of picking up digital transmissions, but it's one of the cheapest and best. Plus it still picks up the old analogue channels too, which is an added bonus.
Uniden make quite a few P25-capable scanners, and there a few other manufacturers out there. If I was a truck driver (alas I just drive a desk in IT) I'd have one in the cab as they are a great piece of gear, plus you can buy a remote head unit for the one I listed so you can use it on the move. There's also the Uniden BCD436HP and BCD996XT but the last one is more of a desktop unit. ...of course the question remains what do I do with a perfectly good but useless analogue scanner Last edited by Ratmick; 13-02-2015 at 09:46 PM. |

However if you are faced with a knife-wielding crack-head keep in mind if they charge you from within 20' it's been proven that they will stab you before you manage to bring your sidearm to bear on them. So if you're within 22' of a copper and you have a knife you're living on borrowed time. Tueller Drill The Police are also taught to shoot at the centre of mass of the target, so they aren't going to be nice like they are in Hollywood and shoot you in your non-favoured leg, or shoot the knife out of your hand, you going to get a large-calibre handgun projectile in the middle of your abdomen. That will take you down, and there's enough mass there to stop the bullet exiting and hitting someone behind them. Unfortunately most of your vital organs are also in the middle of your abdomen, small arms are inherently inaccurate, and both the attacker and defender are rarely stationary, hence there is no margin for error. Really if you don't want to get shot don't be stupid around a Policeman with a loaded firearm...it's not a hard concept. Personally as a father (and grandfather) and bread-winner of my family if I was a Policeman and I was in that situation I would not hang around to get stabbed by some wild-eyed meth addict, I would put a .357 round into your chest...and then fill out the paperwork and undergo some counselling. It's a hard job, not many people could do what they do every single day. |

As for the attitude test quip, bwhahahaha ooh that hurt . I hope you someday come up against a meth addict with a knife that wants your wallet. I just hope your family (if you have one) isn't unlucky enough to be with you...or if they are they have a copper with a gun to protect them while you try and get out of having an extra orifice sliced into you by reasoning with the guy that just wants money for a fix... ...or maybe you're just a fast runner. There's a fair few Toyota Aurions and Camry's getting around as police cars, perhaps if post 2017 Toyota imports either a V6 Camry or imports another large car to replace the Aurion that might be one way the Police go.
