I not actually disagreeing with you, the point of the thread was to show how good that wagon looked and how if they had some decent drivelines would that be enough to sway people like us on the forums (who are a little bit more picky than the average consumer).

Ive worked in the industry too, so yes I get for most people they tick all the boxes but they are still a long way off having any type of enthusiasts buy them. That doesnt mean they are not successful just that they have "not got their act together" for people like me and most here.

That wagon on the other hand is something that would entice me (depending on the drivetrain).

During local tuning in Australia, the ProCeed GT was benched marked against the Focus ST, Megane RS and the Veloster. It was a goal to get it as close to the big boys

Hyundai is great at producing moderately engineered , filled with gadgets cars in large quantities for people who don't know much about cars or driving. They are yet to produce anything with flair or desirable - something even remotely iconic.
Where is Hyundai's NSX , RX7 , WRX , Landcruiser , Wrangler ,MX5 ,XR6T , Monaro , GT , GTR ... They build MOR a to b cars well but that's about it. I 'd rather support companies with flair.

I'm sure Hyundai care with their large profits and growing market share. Like Toyota nothing special cars that sell and make money.

That's good for them because that's the majority of the buying public,
5 year warranty's help too

The way things have been developing I think they will get there.
The Veloster, is not my cup of tea but they have gone out of their way to make a car that looks different,

To be fair Toyota has made some great cars and engines...I didnt expect my Hyundai purchase abstinence to send them broke . McDonalds sells a lot of meals , it does not mean it is good for you :-).

When they get their act together, Mazda gets pushed down the totem pole.

Its interesting that when people talk about Hyundai/Kia, Kia is often referred to as Hyundai's less impressive little brother. I happen to think Kia have the better product, pretty much across the range. Kia seem to have placed more emphasis in tuning there cars for Australian conditions, not to mention the 7 year unlimited km warranty. Its almost like Hyundai is more palatable than Kia for most people tho.

I drive a 2005 Kia carnival and I can only find one fault with it and it is so minor that its no real issue ( prob my fault when fitting stereo )

Kia have good looking cars now days with the 7yr warranty they are ard to look past for our next car

the fleet of vehicles i used to work on in me last job had a pretty even share of hyundai/kias - santa fe's, ix35, i30, mazda 6-cx5 and vw golfs and the odd ve and fg,

rarely ever had an warrenty jobs done on the hyundai/kias, build was ok,

vw's were the most fun to drive, but had the occasional one break,

mazda had the best build quality and finish, the amount of get up was good in the diesels, 2.5 petrols were ok, early cx5 2.0L petty was atrocious

if your gunna get a hyundai / kia, the diesel motors are the pick of the bunch, get alng quite well for what they are

Having just bought a Kia Sorento over a territory, I can tell u build quality is fantastic. Everything's tight, no rattles unlike my last 2 ford fg's.

Only thing I miss is the comfy ford seats and the ford air conditioner which blow the kia away.

We bought a Kia Sorento December 2014 aswell diesel 6 speed auto 7 yr warranty 7yr roadside assistance and capped price services, I have an F6 FG 2008 and really gave the Territory a chance but even the sales guy told me they have diff bush issues and a $1000 to fix! And the extended warranty that you could pay extra for doesn't cover diff bushes! We are extremely happy with the economy, power of the punchy diesel , the sheet metal is solid. Interior finish is above oz standards so far so good 7 yrs is a long time

Rented an brand new i30. Took it out of the parking lot at full throttle thinking it would go nowhere like a Yaris or the clunky previous i30. It smoked (not chirped, actually smoked) both front tyres for 30 metres. Was pleasantly surprised.. The sound system was pretty good, with touch screen, and reverse camera and it even was able to record your bluetooth music into its internal hard drive for convenient playback.

i30 has won many awards as have other Hyundai's, these cars have lifted the game from many years back and are a threat to Toyota in world sales in the coming years.
There the only car manufacturer that rolls there own steel, an idea taken from own Henry Ford.
They are serious enough to invest $5.5 billion into new steel furnaces alone.
http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2011/03...s-its-own.html

I do know someone involved in a new Hyundai dealership, there service department is no where near as profitable as some of there other brand dealerships, the reliability has moved ahead.

As voted by our motoring bodies of Australia, Korean car makers have things to smile about.

Hyundai poaches BMW M engineering chief to lead new performance division

http://www.autoblog.com/2014/12/22/h...neering-chief/

It won't be long and they'll have some street cred performance wise.

Most people have no idea/ don't care about handling etc, so when it comes to buying a new car its all about price and customer experience.

Ford dont win many brownie points on either measure.

I love the badge snobs.. My current daily is a current model Kia Sportage diesel, having owned several FGs, VEs and a VF I can state that the Kia is damn good at what it does. It's quieter on the road than all those cars, handles well and fit and finish is excellent. Averages high 6s fuel economy too. Only thing that lets it down is the harsh tune on the ESC, only an issue if you give it the berries.

we have a 2013 Kia Rio.... I say we, the girlfriend bought it for her.

I have been driving it alot recently and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! Its not a high end car by any means but bang for buck its certainly the best value! The only two things that let it down is the hillstart assist..... its woefull.. even the head mechanic at kia agreed with me and the 1.4lt engine is so underpowered its not funny.

Would I have one? certainly! and I have no qualms about running around in it and its actually a fun little car to drive.... and couldnt be any further removed from what the ute has become!

For me, to answer the OP topic, Hyundai and Kia have got their act together otherwise they wouldn't have the growing market share they currently enjoy.

We were going to trade our old Pajero in on an i30 (i30 is a nice car to drive) and a i20 Christmas 2013 however couldn't get the finance at the time so when we were in a better position to do the deal and contacted the dealer again they couldn't be bothered to return our calls and emails.

If we were able to get to a better dealer I'm sure my wife wouldn't be running around in a MY15 Lancer.
