Rope seals work great at the right tension, but if over tightened may cause crankshaft to fail permanently.

Maybe you could get the girls mum to help you fit the seal then take mum for a carerful ride to bed it in. Now you can take the girl for numerous rides and know you can thrash it with confidence. After all this you can now tell her dad all about what you have achieved and I am sure he will be VERY impressed by what you have done.
