how does someone create a VIN to allow that to happen? Edit. Is HO an option on a JG33 car? |

Very true. Petrol-fuelled "dirty" fires reach temperatures of approximately 700ºC to 900ºC. Carbon steel weakens dramatically as its temperature reaches more than 230ºC, and—for example—retains only around 10% of its strength at 750ºC. No way that vehicle will ever carry human occupants again. Sad.

I feel sorry for the owner. A lot of pride and effort went into that.
However if it was genuine, it'll resurface somewhere in the near future. Usually in a new shell. |

It was a cabin fire out in the open, not an incineration inside an enclosed space. The temperatures wouldn't have had much effect on the steel strength I imagine. Repairable..

I drove to Geelong on the weekend to check out the new show area for All Ford Day 2016 and saw the burnt out wreck on the way back - sent shivers through me and I felt very bad for the owner who was just standing nearby - not something you ever want to see.............

There are that many replicas going around claiming to be genuine that it seems like there are more around than were originally produced also not taking into account natural attrition for cars like these ie theft, stripped, written off etc. |

Having been in this position myself I can understand exactly how the owner feels. Real or replica its gut wrenching to watch something you have invested so much time and money in litterally go up in smoke.

Is there anyone on this forum who knows the owner of this car and / or could verify if it is a genuine XY GT / HO or is it a replica?
Either way it's a great shame and a sad sight for any Classic car fan..... |

My guess replica based on value and 80's globes and turkey perch spoiler. Definately not a HO or GT. |

At the same time, the same story that called it an $80K Falcon actually called it an $80K Falcon in the headline, then went on to say that the car had an $80K rebuild later in the article (which probably would be the rebuild cost of a genuine P3 Hoey?). So, shonky journalism is playing a part in obscuring the truth about the car's identity from us.

no offence if 80k is ALL it would cost to rebuild an xw or xygt let alone a phase 3 there would be even fewer left unrestored! thank god they all don't look like they have fallen out of a grease gun with the same aboriginal dot art over most visible nuts and bolts
