Correct, PS has the same 8 speed trans as the 200 series Cruiser.

When I test drove the PS the trans was definitely a highlight of the package, very well tuned. Wasn't the biggest fan of the 10 speed in Everest for the same reason I'm on the fence about it in my Mustang, it's a little busy. Although I don't think it really bothers the average cat if recent sales are anything to go by.

And yes, a lot of private buyers are going for the machismo, and 2wd is for "Sheilas, Wogs, and Poofters"

The rest of the top 10 arent cars, they are light trucks
OK maybe the cx5 or rav4 might be cars, which would make cx5 best seller

PS - “good, honest showing. Too bad it’s so dreary”

Fortuner - “shows it’s age and limitations in too many areas”

D-Max - “just too creaky to properly compete”.

My Daughter has a current model Cerato Sedan, great car, been faultless. Unfortunately it suffered massive frontal damage from hitting a roo on Sunday evening whilst doing 105k/hr.
Front bar, RH headlight, parker, indicator, fog, mirror, bonnet and hinges, radiator support, windscreen and both gaurds.

Big question now is, are there enough parts in the country to repair it or will it be written off.
If they write it off, can Kia supply another in a short time frame or will she be looking at other options.

Parts supply has little to do with whether it'll be written off or not.
Insurance company won't care if it takes 6 months to fix, as long as it's cheaper than replacing it.

At our site, all of our vehicles are put into 4L and the gear selector is removed. So they spend their life in low range.

I will say that my 4x2 Ranger gets more work done than the useless double cabs that end up having to tow a trailer around to actually do any work.

I laugh about it now however my wife and I were driving just after dusk on a South Australian country road and a bloody horse came out of the side road, obviously spooked but I had nowhere to go, just braked as hard as possible and prayed....luckily all survived apart from my jocks.

I think that's about right, Everest is far more car-like than the others and is a solid package overall, while PS doesn't really put a foot wrong and I think the value proposition sways a lot of people.

In terms of monthly sales, more than likely Mitsubishi are having a lot of success with the flagship grade PS robbing sales from low-mid spec Everest. If you have the budget for an Everest Titanium ($20k more), I don't think the PS is a factor, but I'd guess that quite a few people looking at low-mid spec Everest at around the $65k mark end up shopping it against the $60k PS Exceed and the inclusions would sway plenty of them. Stuff like heated seats, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert etc are standard on the PS but you won't see them in an Everest unless you go all the way to Titanium. It also has a few things that aren't in the Everest catalogue, like 360 degree cameras, digital cluster, 10 year warranty etc. I expect we'll see that sort of stuff in the all-new model next year and if Ford bring some of the equipment into the mid range I think PS might be in trouble.

My Ranger is a 2016, sometimes I regret not getting a base Falcon ute instead, mainly for the extra comfort, an automatic gearbox and the Barra.

But the Ranger was cheaper to buy and cheaper to fuel.

As a plumber, my son would agree, initially loved having a new duel cab d-max and his work mates were jealous he got it and they still had their single cab falcons, now he hates it, calls it the poser tradies Ute as he constantly needs to tow a trailer on site while they just load up the flat tray falcons they still have,

One of the biggest impediments to Ford getting more 4x2 sales is clearly price; Hilux workmate
comes with a tray and sells drive away for less than $30k, a comparable Ranger wth Tray and
is nearly $6,000 dearer but yes, it comes with a diesel.

Interesting that sales of Transit Custom lifted last month, delivery van services are growing
but I wonder if some trades and services would consider as well, just a thought…..

Well put simply id say yes, the d-max (1 of only 2 twin cabs they have) is being handed back over and being given to the other office manager in the next few weeks and being replaced by 1 of the 7 new hiace vans his firm ordered, which are just being kitted out with shelving, roof racks etc which are also replacing the last of the bf and fg utes they have.. dont know what the price difference between a hiace and a transit is but they are in a process to replace all of their older vehicles with vans from here on in

Thanks for that feedback, I’m betting the Hiace is priced lower than Transit Custom but maybe
it’s more that familiarity with the Toyota brand and understanding the importance of that.
Culturally, tradies have always gone for utes but now we’re seeing some change to vans that
allow more enclosed storage, security of tools and equipment is another big selling point….
Maybe it just takes time for vans to catch on……..

Reason why Ranger 4x2 doesn't sell is because ford do not push it or bother stocking it in any reasonable quantity.

Do you guys realise the vast majority of Ranger 4x2s sold are actually high riders not the budget low riders? With around half of those being the XLT version which are probably about $56k according to the Ford website.

The point of my post was to show why Toyota gets so many of those 4x2 sales
and given the sales profile of Ranger 4x4, it wouldn’t surprise in the slightest
to learn that the sales profile of Ranger 4x2 is in the $45k to $60k zone with
the entry point low rider utes making up a minuscule amount of sales.

I am correct, it’s just that almost everyone who claims a 4x4 Ute as non-FBT
lies about the amount of private usage. Equally, the tax dept doesn’t police it.

Re 2x4 sales,
There’s no great hoard of walk in buyers waiting to buy 4x2 Rangers, they’re ordered case by case.

my son had a previous gen hiace for a few weeks, loved that all his tools were secure in the back (and lets face it, there's prob a good 10 grand out of his own pocket in there) & had space to move to store things, hated the cab over design & was always concerned of a front end collision loosing his legs as a friend of ours had in a hiace, hence he pushed to get back into a ute. the new hiace though with a more traditional "nose" so to speak, he feels safer in already and thats just from sitting in it,
