personally, i think that there is NOTHING hotter than an a nice chick/girl/woman (which u prefer) with a nice car.
my wife is the love of my life, and what makes that even better is that she's just as big a car-head as me, as those that know her will agree.

we are both members of the FPV & XR Owners Club in Vic., but she is also in a 'girls-only' car club. We really like going to some of the girls events, and they are all into their cars as much as any guy I know.

more power to the car-chicks I reckon!!

Ohh, on the which car subject, and un-biased-ly, I'd say the focus over the astra.
my cousins wife has an astra, and its a POS. she that sick of the probs with it that she getting rid of it ATM, and buying a focus, simply because a few of us know others with a focus, and have had a great run with them.

As a 20 yr old car accident vetren ... 3 cars in as many years and i didn't sell one :| ... the safty factor is huge for young drivers. I have seen many an accident (unusually not involving me) with asiain built vechiles and they are all DEATH traps ... as many of us know. Sticking with ford, holden or European cars like BMW and the hidious volvo ewww would be the best bet. My accidents which have been write offs have been in Falcon Wagons and utes ...

92 Wagon right off ... some old fool backed out infront of me. All i remember from that accident (as clear as day) is looking at the corner of his holden rodeao cm's infront of my face ... and the air bag. (those air bags hurt ehy). the 2001 AU XL Ute was my fault but due to the vechile i survived with out a scratch as i slide at 130km/h plus into a gaurd rail overhanging a cliff (thought i was gonna die in that brain fart of an incident) ... as you can see it is very imporntant for young drivers to drive non jap poo cars.

Yep it's not the car but the driver, my first car was a lightly modded EF xr8. 2nd & current car is a Blown BA xr8 and 3rd car is a BF turbocharged falcon and i'm only 21 and haven't written anything off. Some people just don't belong behind a wheel.

nah i wasn't saying anything about the cars being the fault of the accident .. far from it. its was my arogance and need to be places quickly that caused the accident in the AU ... the wagon well that was wrong place at the wrong time. I was using them as examples of how they saved my . If i did the same things in a rice car .... well i wouldn't be typing this. would i? but yes the last accident ... the AU, which is like 12 months ago now, was the main reason for me to go and do a definsive drivers course. luckly enough i insured the new ute (XHII) with AAMI and i got a free definsive drivers course plus the fact that I learnt that speed kills the wallet as bad as the person.

But yea safty wise steer clear or small rice cars. seen many a death in those.

I agree 100% after having some hairy situations due to cheap crappy tyres in several cars its just not worth the 20-30 dollar a tyre saved as opposed to thousands in repairs or worse imho.

alright, i wouldnt look at a focus or astra or a new car...

id look at a 2nd AU 2 or 3 Fairmont. they can be had for relatively cheap and they will probably be a tad safer than a focus or astra.

I second that, never ever buy wanli tyres. I always ran them at the correct pressure but the sidewalls have split up big time with still 85% tread left. I only found out when they started deflating. Scary stuff if they had gone at high speed.

And don't think those crap dunlops on the new BA XR8's are any better. SP3000 or what ever they are. My brother in law works in a tyre store that do a lot of work on police cars in the S.E. suburbs of Melbourne. They've had a few with tread seperation...

Daughter No "1" 20 yr/old, has a '94 Laser KJ 1.8 EFi for 1 1/2 years (round the $4-5,000 mark now) Nice car to drive. 225,000 k's No mechanical probs.

Daughter No "2" 17 yr/old, has a '93 Laser KH 1.8 , 190,000 k's Just rego'd last Wednesday , only needed wiper blades.

Both of them are very sound ,

Daughter No "1" hit 2 kangaroo's "in 2 nights" just before christmas $2,200 damage (we live in the country) 2nd one was at 90 Kph. Wife hit a 'roo 12 months ago in her ED Fairmont at less than 80 K's $4,000 damage . I was very supprised how solid the small cars are even that model

I will vouch for the KJ laser. I had a 96 model, did almost 200,000 in it in 5 years, only thing that went was clutch (& Pedal box) .... and i THRASHED that car...

Would thoroughly recommend a 1.8 over the 1.6 though, as the rear drum brakes are very expensive to get replaced, and dont work anywhere near as well as the disc's!
