Definely a Polise Chaser, I had a VS Commodore chaser.
It also had 2kmph increments, It so the cops can say, your doing 88kph rather than 85-90kph. Dont be dishearten by it, They always go like a bull at the gate. And serviced and maintained alot better than most. My console had wear marks from their folder, down the side in between the passenger seat and console. You could also some small holes that had been patched up on the dash and console. The blue tickford speedos do come up forsale. Could be the first mod. you make. Their is a web site, dedicated to chasers. I wiil try find address. |

come to think about it, there are a few marks on the dash i thought were funny. Look like it had been patched up. I don't know what to think know. I just hope the noise the car makes doesnt mean its a f**ked engine.

Change the dash, all good.
These motors do tick, more like injectors, than an engine knock. Like I said, Dont be disheartened, THESE are serviced alot more than most. Every high speed chase and back to shop for inspection, SAFETY, SAFETY. I wish you brought mine, not that it's for sale, But a very nice car, that they offer small change for. I have had mine off the speedo, It went upto 256kph, on the Sat.Nav. system. These 220's GO, lighter than BA's, so you dont need the extra KW's. |

ok. So problems i've found with it have been.
Window swirthes are stuffed. They work when they want, not when you want. Half of the LED display on the dash doesnt light up, left hand side covering DTE no lights, right hand side with km is fine. Engine makes funny noises. Something clunking under car, sounds like my old car when exhaust was hitting underneath. Sometimes hard to put in gear. Doesnt want to start, have to lightly put foot on accelerator to start. Thats all I can think of at the moment...

It's definately an Ex-Police Car. You have Police Speedo, and the Dome Light on the middle of the dash.
Nice car, but I'd try and get those problems fixed. I'd replace the cluster, and clean the window switches (tutorial somewhere).

Doesnt want to start, have to lightly put foot on accelerator to start. Mine has done this from new, had new coils, spark plugs, leads all fitted under warranrty, still does it. But not ever start just some. Dont know why. |

Ex Chaser for sure as others have said. Problems wise, is the ticking sound coming from behind the passenger side headlight? If so, that's just the purge solenoid. Common problem (or not) on AU's. I say or not because the ticking sound varies and it means it's working, only problem is it's noisey. The dash is simple, you will find the left hand side globe (there are 2 globes for the screen) is blown. Replace it and all should be good. Clunking noise sounds like the ever popular driveline shunt with the manuals. Very common issue (from EA to current Falcon). Does it happen at gear changes, specially down shifting?
What is the build date just to be sure it's infact a 220kw. W. Marsicano you say? Would you mind posting up a pic of the build plate in similar size (or bigger) to the one below please? It's one of the build plates that needs to be added to the 'Hand Built' article on aufalcon.com.

yeah mate looks like a good car just be careful as i have owned a series 3 xr8 when new and it was a great car my son has a silver manual and he found some clunking sound in his diff but was fixed under warranty, Serie 3 xr8 had all the bugs ironed out of it and are great cars and very light compared to my heavy ba xr8 . Nothing like the sound of a sweet little old windsor enjoy buddy. Tony xr8

Enjoy the car. 220kw motors are a great motor except for the starting issue which my car does sometimes too. As Tony XR8 said much lighter in the front end compared to BA XR8 as I have had a BA XR8 and I find the AU handles better due to less weight of the front wheels.

1st 2 things are common in AU's, both my AU's have that, and a few mates had same happen. Just need new bulbs in your dash, and sometimes the power window switches screw up and need to be replaced, or just the plug needs to be taken off, and put back on. Engine, go buy yourself some nice oil and do a change, if its been services by ford, if its anything like my local one, they use the wrong grade. It may be that simple, it was with my ute, it may not. Try adjusting your clutch cable, do you know if its original clutch ? Check the rubber exhaust hanger thats above the axle on the right side, my one on my sedan used to come loose, so i replaced the rubber hanger and it was fine. And my sedan is hard to start, ute is fine, that can be many of a thing, injectors leaking a little while the car is off, ect ect...... try searching on here, i seen a few threads about it before. Enough rambling from me, have fun with the ride mate. And if its too quiet, theres a few sound clips in my sig to show how windsors can sound

I just brought a 220 xr8 and I have the same starting problem as well must be abit of a thing with them. Also are you sure the ticking noise isn't coming from the cats as mine makes that ticking noise and its the cats I had high flow one fitted to my v8 eb and they used to tick realy bad aswell.

What sort of oil should I run. I just used magnatec in my I6, will that do for the 8? Or do I need something better. Quote:
I thought the clutches were self-adjusting, and you only needed to adjust the pedal height with the nut on the other side of firewall?

Hey James, thats a nice car mate, I've sat in that thing once before and I used to drive past it twice a day on my way to work in Bathurst. Do you remember the blue BA XT V8 at John Davis? Did you ever take that for a spin?

This thing goes through more petrol than I do beer. I just filled it up with premium and the dte says 300km to empty. What a joke.
Is this normal for the xr8's. Or does mine just love petrol?

My AU2 Ghia VCT drank normal unleaded at the rate of "16l/100kms" or around 350-380kms per tanks round town, but now i use United's Ethanol mix 95 Octane petrol, 4 cents per litre cheaper and also now get "14/100kms" and 400-420kms per tank.
Same commuting route every week, same driving style. Your V8 sounds around average I guess then? What sucks is that my 6cyl AU uses more petrol than a modern 5.4L Boss V8, and it has over 120kws less......hmmm. |

Good to see you got it. My 220 is hard to start sometimes too, must be common by the looks. I've been told to use a mineral 15 or 20w oil in her by someone who knows a lot about thhese engines, and they are thirsty. Your probably gonna hate me too, I picked mine up for 17k on the road with all the mods and only 77,000k on the clock. Manuals do seem to ask a few more grand than auto's though.

Just got the car back from my uncle. He's a mechanic. Toyota has some work to do on my car by the looks of things.
Steering Rack Boot (Left hand side) Gearbox leaking oil Gearbox moving (bell housing) Oil leaking Driver side (radiator & p/steering) Oil leaking air conditioner Drivebelt worn Coolant needs changing L/H Side of LED Display on Dash doesn’t light up. Master Power window switches faulty Power window switches lights not lit up. Knock in drivetrain / diff when driving (happens when you accelerate / back off) Knock in rear of car when traveling over bumps (sounds like exhaust hitting under car)

The DTE is probably out of wack because of the consumption while it was in the dealership - the computer has gotten use to short drives, test drives, and idling without moving. |
