They have been playing in the market for more then 20 years! When the first Magna was released it had as much or more interior room then the Commodore and Falcon at the time. The Magna forced Toyota into the large local sedan market when the orginal Camry was not much wider then a Corolla. The Magna also forced Ford and Holden to lift the engineering of their products. MMAL exported the 2nd gen Magna and Verada all over the world, including wagons to Japan. The 3rd gen was also exported to New Zealand, Middle East, America and Japan. The planned 4th gen was hoped to continue this program, indeed one proposal had the Magna as actually based on the Debonair instead of the Diamante. Which would have meant RWD and V8 power. Sadly Mitsubishi's global collapse killed every thing. Which is a shame because by all acounts a V8 Magna would have been a weapon.
