Hmmm, this is an interesting one... As someone that specialises in the spy shot arena, all I can say is that it doesn't match anything new announced by Ford.
I've seen patent CGI's for the China-bound 'production' Escort sedan, and this test mule is different. However, BarraXR8 may still be correct with the China link - a more conventional sedan to sit above/alongside the Mondeo in that market? What it isn't, is the upcoming Falcon or Mondeo. The next Taurus may be a possibility, although the replacement for that car is still up in the air as far as I know. |

Well it's not an Escort either. It's too big to be an Escort, and the door handles, fuel filler cap and the glasshouse isn't right:
I see your point about the different fuel filler cap location on the Genesis. Then there's the different mirror, and different location for the high stop lights, but the way I see it, the doors and the glasshouse are a dead ringer: I take your point that it may not be the Genesis, but if it is a Ford, what can it be? It's not the Escort or Mondeo/MKZ, and definitely not Falcon. Googled pics of the new Taurus development mule is based off a Fusion with a hideously stretched bootlid, so I also doubt it's a Taurus.

China always has LWB versions of normal cars built specifically for them. There are LWB 3 series etc.
It may just be a LWB version of something with some additional changes? |

Very close indeed, in fact that blue-coloured photoshop that NX74205 posted below is basically it.
The more I look at those test mules, it makes me wonder if it's the next Taurus. It appears to be a larger car and the dual exhausts indicate there might be decent power train options lurking underneath. The profile is similar to that of the Audi A7, with its raked rear section and sloping boot lid. The boot opening is very wide and down low between the exhausts is what appears to be a fog-light. Also noteworthy, are the chrome roof strips/rails that flow down to the base of the rear windscreen and lower-door inserts. Suggests a premium vehicle? |

If we saw the front number plate we could at least say it was Ford Aust. owned.

They wouldn't have the cheek to call the Taurus a Falcon .....?

Ford has already said that the next Falcon will be a facelift of the FG. So no, next Falcon won't be a Taurus.

Even if there is, they won't be allowed to disclose anything that Ford hasn't already disclosed.

They have done a few cars for the Asian market now. They can R&D cheaper then the Chinese can.

Ford sedans in the Chinese domestic market have been a bit "off beat" for a number of years. For example, the current shape Mondeo is made (well, assembled) there, but in a special LWB form that isn't available anywhere else.
This car is most likely a replacement for that Mondeo, and most likely CD4-based. The only gaps that need to be filled are whether it is a stretched Fusion/Mondeo like the one before it, or a China-only version of the next generation Toreass. Which I note is going to be built in China from 2015...

Are we sure its not the next gen Camry?
What are the rear lights off? Looks like they are from something existing, that are dodgied in place. Work out what the lights are from are we'll know the brand.

That upwards kink in the rear door window is definitely Mondeo. It has to be some sort of Chinese Mondeo I reckon.
Mondeo Vignale? Anyone want to compare the Vignale concept to the prototype here? |
