Hi Guy's
A few years ago my wife and i drove up to the Sutherland Shire to see the in law's . We stayed there for a few hour's and then left to go home.
We decided to go to a Chinese Restaurant in Sutherland so my wife wouldn't have to cook dinner when she got home.

As i was parking the car i saw XB GS Falcon 351 it was blue with a orange strip down the side of it and the owner was inside reading the news paper.
We had a chat and he told me " he couldn't afford to buy a GT or a GTHO so he brought this".

He had it for around 8 years and brought it from an old cpl because the old bloke couldn't drive any more. What a lovely car it was T-Bar Auto, 351 engine, dual exhausts etc.

I was so taken by this car and talking to the owner that i forgot my wife was waiting for me at the restaurant until my phone rang, " where are you she said its been over twenty minutes".

I got to the Restaurant and said to her " ive just seen the most beautiful XB Falcon with a GS Rally Pack ive seen in a long long time.

My wife's reply was "not another car you have fallen in love with" !

DATSUN 120Y. These were a dime a dozen in the late to early 90's in QLD. These were our 'learn to drive' cars.....problem is we kept running them off a road and into a tree. $500 later, we'd have another one.....

Absolutely. I took lessons in a little datsun stanza, the four door sedan. And i cant remember the last time i saw one of those.

My next door neighbors good friend is a big morris guy. He buys morris minors from all over the place restores them and sells them. He has 3 that he wont sell. A concourse 850. A concourse 1000 and his 'hot rod'. Thats a 1950 minor that has a mint body and interior. The only interior modification is seatbelts. It has a 1275 out of a morris marina and a celica 5 speed. Thats the only one he properly drives as it can actually do 110kmh on the freeway. His other 2 do drive, but his words are they cannot keep up with traffic, so he trailers them to classic car shows. He has won a few awards. Last time i spoke to him he had 5 other minors in various states of restoration.

Spotted a Maserati 4200 / Grandsport on the way home tonight. Not that they were especially common in the first place, but are pretty rare sightings in sleepy rural towns.

mum many many years ago had the ute version that grandpa bought her. see it in a lot of family pics, but i only remember it parked down the back behind the garage looking lost & forlorn

Like the 120Y my brother had a 180B which all had the same swept up rear door windows. I can remember the amount of Datsuns (and 70s Fords) with damaged rear quarters and bumpers from reverse parking accidents was amazing.

Crossed paths with a Smokey and the Bandit TransAm yesterday. Don't see them often, but this one was in an electric type blue instead of the black wìth gold. It was coming towards me so couldn't quite confirm what colour the stickers were.

I went to & from School in a V4 powered (For want of a better word) version for 7 Yrs except when It was broken down (which was more often than Not)

Underpowered, underbraked, Hot in Summer, freezing in Winter.....

They've been ****boxes all the way through except for the current model, remember that early 00s one with the push button automated manual box - who was the moron who thought that was a good idea compared to a torque converter auto in a commercial vehicle

Definitely Ford Transit, my brother had one as a young self-employed courier driver.....when he wasn't driving it he was fixing it, kept him busy but he loved the sliding doors, a godsend to the courier driver he reckoned.....

Trannies

4 cyl ones would die at traffic lights due to fuel bowl on top of exhaust manifold.. was all right in UK I guess. We rigged up a 10mm hose that went from passenger seat to fuel bowl, come to traffic lights, the passenger then started squeezing big water bottle and pushing water it worked well.

Sales manager of Stillwell Ford Trucks in Adelaide blew the engine guts apart. I had driven this gutless box from Melbourne to swap over to a 6 cyl. He...'geez havent driven one of those for years, wheres the keys mate" hops in, starts it up bamo bits all over the place.

We also had an old bakalite home phone would sit between front seats with a ring tone on a cassette player, up to traffic lights, phone would ring, answer it and conversation went...
'hello.....'
(look out the sliding door) 'yeah hes beside me, yeah hang on' ...
(lean out to driver beside you... 'phone for you says its important'.. hopefully by that time lights had changed.

Girls loved riding shotgun with the sliding doors open, wind blowing their dresses all over the place.

geez those were the days.

Yeah they were crap. First motorhome was a 1970 LWB duallie Transit. 250 six pack 4 speed went like the clappers (so did the fuel) , wasn't so keen on stopping going down mountains.
Had our neighbour who painted houses, brush paint it.
Gearstick would drop out of 4th if you let the foot off the go pedal. RIP, POS.
