Thats odometer.
Anyhows, yes i do still hear daily everything fishtank related and yeah the photos do show my kid has a proper nice big fish tank thats well set up. But today he deviated from his fish escapades back to slot cars. Dunno why. So we both have scaletric cars, other then tyres they are what they are. Super glue the fronts as the guide does the steering so less front grip is best and grippy rears because corners. But we also have race spec revoslot cars. Talking a few years back, i bought 2 identical ones with different liveries, so gt2 viper gtsr's. His is the one with blue stripes, mine is the fat turbo express with eyelashes. I dont care, same car to keep the competition equal. Not that we raced them competitively, if you've ever spectated a slot car race night it genuinly is 6 50 year old virgins who punch on if someone's 32nd scale car takes theirs out. But back to regular crap talking. Both his and my cars are modified the same and to the rules of the revo class. So stock motor and gearing. No weights or magnets. Guide and tyres and wheels are unlimited. So 9mm guides, superglued fronts and he has aftermarket rubber, i run aftermarket foam. Which is better? Depends on how dirty the track is. But still, he reckons he can beat me. I doubt that. Both cars are equal, but mine is a tad heavier as the body is held together with glue. His is in good shape because he does this weird things kids dont tend to do, and thats respect stuff. |

Today my father turned 81. Five years ago when he told me he had bladder cancer I thought it was all over. Thankfully he is still in good health with no signs of the cancer returning. Now if there was only a way to fix the @rsehole's head................

From 10:43pm today, for the next six months, there'll be more daylight hours than night time hours.
Winter, your dastardly grip on us is waning!

Went down to the mechanics today to book a time for a rego check. Why dont i just call you might ask, language barrier. Anyhows they were quite busy and i was willing to bring the car back, but they did it on the spot telling others waiting i was booked in for 930 which was a lie. They actually went over the car, normally if it has tyres and lights and no exhaust leaks they'll pass it. Past 4 inspections the car failed on an exhaust leak which is always the same gasket but this time round it was apples. Only reason its the same gasket over and over is that thats the flange that scrapes on sydneys ever growing mountainous speed bumps (curse you SUV people...). But she's all insured and payed up for another year.

So the mechanics i take my car to is samsung auto repair in North Parramatta. They are very korean but also excellent mechanics.
Anyhows, my kid has a samsung phone and a few other devices, so after school was done i texted him to say this morning i went to samsung and got something. He was thinking electeonics not a pink slip. Yes i worded it in a way so as he would assume wrong. He tells me that's not samsung. It is, just completely different and a mechanic workshop. |

Dealing with a customer who is highly appreciative of the service you provide, after dealing with somebody else at the site who was an ungrateful piece of shit
Polite, appreciative customers are the cat's pyjamas

Visiting my daughter in Karratha. About 6 months ago some toe rag tried to steal her little Swift and completely buggered the ignition.
Her husband tried to sort it, no luck. A locksmith guy reckoned 3k to fix. I bought a replacement ignition with ECU etc off ebay for $120 and bought it up with me. 45 minutes later, job done, fired up straight away. 3kay my rs.

Finished cleaning the house gutters today. Started yesterday. Normally a job I do in spring, once we get a couple of nice days. Nice sunny day with no wind both yesterday and today.
Glad I did them. Despite having the plastic insert style gutter guards, being down wind of the couple of gums I've posted pics of before and the recent strong winds we've had, the gutters were pretty full.

My son was allowed out today and needed/wanted some fishtank stuff. I said im happy to pay for filter medium but the rest is on him. The 1st place we went to was a new place to us, I'd driven past before, but an aquarium with the name fish tank sounds pretty legit. The place was. Their (im going off what the boy says) livestock price is apparently a bit high, but selection is good. The price for the filter stuff he wanted was less then petbarn, so i got him 2 packs. Then we went to petbarn because they stock the fish food he uses and the water conditioner stuff he likes. He was going to pay for that but commited the cardinal sin. We walk up to the cashier and then he goes 'wait, I've just got to transfer'. You dont do that. Ever. Eh, i paid, it wasnt even remotely close to enough to cry about.
Then the same open ended response game. He knows he can have whatever he wants for lunch provided he cooks it. So my question of what do you want for lunch was met by 'i dont cook so whatever'. Its not master cookery, im just pushing him into basic life skills. This time when i marched him into the supermarket only rules were nothin thats 90 seconds on high. Well he settled with steak. Thats fine, steaks something people should know how to cook. He didnt know what cut to get. I took a shot to the wallet on getting him a scotch fillet to cook. Reason being, if its good it might motorvate his life skills. So same deal as usual with my teaching method, hands off use words only. So turn the stove on to meduim low heat (gas stove) then get asked is that correct, my response do you think its correct?. He got it right, so whatever. Step 2, fry pan on said stove then a light spray of........ anyhows, he did a good job of it. You have to learn how to cook to your personal taste. Only way to do that is to try and sometimes fail. But work it out. Still, basic life skill anyhows. |

Cooking is such an important skill to learn. I taught both of our boys how to do it when they were growing up.They have both lived in sharehouses with mates and in some cases been the only ones with the skills. They cook great meals for their friends and more importantly they try to pass on skills to their mates as well. That makes me one very proud dad. |

I was a bit of failure in the cooking department to teach my kids years ago, working long hours and away from home at times put a stop to that, matter fact my cooking skills were limited, but that is now all changing being close to retirement, the wife & daughters are now teaching me which I'm enjoying.
You are never too old to learn new skills. |

Well, im pretty sure my son looks at it as an annoyance that dad makes him cook. To be fair, kfc would have been easier but that would defeat the purpose. Thats the reason why he can have whatever he wants for lunch when he is with me, but has to cook it.
I will tell the one side i like to do when bbqing. So i do steaks on the grill side and snags on the plate. Once the snags are done, with the oily snagy goodness on the plate i slap on diced bacon and a can of baby potatos to fry up and absorb the what would be wasted flavours. With the tinned baby potatos, best results are if you get the cheapest homebrand ones from colesworths. Always goes fast with guests. |
