Nice. I don't remember the last time I saw a kookaburra, or even heard one.

Great pics.

Yeah very common in our yard too.
I was watching one perched on the back fence yesterday.
He'd been singing there for a while already.

And bloody smart little birds.
We tend to have less around us but have its smaller cousin the Azure Kingfishers who love to nest in the river reds.

Got a car running today that allegedly had a seized engine. Definitely needs TLC but I think the engine stopped automatically due to low oil pressure, not metal transfer.

Good one, I remember a friend over 40 years ago given a 6cyl Cortina TC/D era model, the engine overheated on a very hot day and popped all the welsh plugs, it would not turn over when stopped so it was considered seized. A week later old mate decided to replace the welsh plugs and topped up with water, it started and the car ran for another 7 years before it was written off in an accident.
Seen some other old holden & ford engines being thrashed to the point where they should have blown but refuse to die.

Cheers

Used to attend a well known Northern Suburbs performance shop’s annual Christmas party… A highlight was they had 3 engines on stands.. Holden Red motor, Ford crossflow and a Valiant slant 6… Each hosed up to a 44 drum of water, and each with it’s carby tied wide open!
Start the 3 up together and bet on which is last to detonate!
Red motor always first, throwing no.5 leg outta bed!
From memory they used the same slant 6 motor 3 years running.. Indestructible.

Very common for No 5 pot to throw the rod or crack pistons in red motors, had a few go in my time when hooning.

Hi Guys,
what made me feel good today was My Ford Mondeo. Two weeks ago i took some annual leave and my wife and myself drove to Adelaide for a week.
The car is a real gem went great, never used any oil or coolant.

But the best thing is it clicked 500,000Km now of course has 502,000km on it. Of course with that many ks on it ive done things to it. New Radiator, New Power Steering Pump, New water Pump, New Fuel Pump, but as far as the engine i havent touched anything in the engine apart from getting a new rocker cover gasket.

When i went to get my Rego Pink slip in August the guy said to me "ive never seen a Ford Mondeo with so many ks on it and the car is still in good Condition.

Went for my daily 7km walk tonight, leaving at 1730. Made it back home before last light (1845) and before most of the street lights had come on.

The older I get, the simpler I'm happy to live. And this simple thing made me happy today.

Auto quote not working for me again..

Anyways... here in Adelaide back in the day we used to have an annual engine blow up day.
Around 20 - 30 entrants. Each engine was timed to see how long it would last.
They would have no oil and no water. Carby's spring loaded to hold it wide open after the initial fire up. Once started, and the carby released to full throttle, a cage would be dropped on top of the engine, to prevent injuries. Plenty of beer, plenty of mad sounds.
I have never to this day, heard a pre-cross flow 250 do an estimated 8000rpm for a full 3 seconds before returning to 5500-6000rpm. (My estimation). The thing just screamed.. in pain hahaha.

The engine that won it on the time I was there was a Datsun A12 1200 unit (120y datto engine) 19mins 20 seconds. Everyone got the shits with it and started throwing bottles and cans at it! It would be happily valve bouncing then nearly die... then slowly come back to valve bounce again, and again, and wait, yep, again. The shortest blowup was a 350 chev. It lasted 20 seconds. It somehow turned a piston and rod upside down in the bore.
Had a major window in the block... that's how I know this.
Fun times watching how totally over engineered engines were back then. Be interesting to see how modern tight tolerance engines fair.. me thinks not so well, as in under the same conditions, they would seize much quicker.

One Man.

I bought one of these yesterday.

That made me feel good.
As some of you may know, from my posts in other threads, I am a HUGE Nissan Maxima fan (1994 - 1998 A32 GV to be precise).
The only one things that let it down were:
  • lack of power
  • Trans shift points - calibration, shifts up way to early 1st --> 2nd
Moving right along...

I test drove the TRD Aurion when it was new, and I was super impressed.
Just couldn't justify HSV / FPV money for a grocery getter...
The way it handled on my favorite road (Gorge road) was outstanding.
Turning right out of the carpark at the Gorge.. idleing along turned right at walking pace, nail it to the firewall and the front right just started to fry. Awesome. Yeah yeah, torque steer was a very minor thing, BUT, it just made it more fun to give it the berries.
Always thought about getting one, a bit like the Ecoboost FG. Tick, been there done that. Now there's only a couple of cars (accessible to me funds wise) I'd like to own. The 1st being a Mint NC Ghia 5 Litre, white in colour. The second one being a replica XY GTHO Phase 3 in vermillion fire, with a top loader and 2.75 diff.
Numero 3 would have to be the FPV GT supercharged animal. Have driven one, and man, for a stock out of the box machine, it ticked all of the boxes for me. It went. It stopped. It sounded like an orchestra. Loved to be revved.

Well, I hope something made you feel good today.

One Man.

So my son saw my brother today for the 1st time in a while.
Anyrate (appart from fuel economy, i have no idea why you would) he dailys the learner burner i bought to get my bike licence which he bought off me.
So my son had never seen it in person, only photos. He sat on it etc, but questions why i call it the little bike as its not little like a froot booter or whatever.
Now he is thinking of getting his bike Ls (car Ls too)when he is old enough next year because independence as a learner on a bike.
Well, its called little bike because wet weight is 130kgs, makes a whopping 13hp out of the watercooled 125cc single. So only just slightly heavier then the 12 speed mountain bike your parents got you from kmart in 1994.
My brother will probably gift my son the bike if he gets his bike Ls. Perfect learner burner. Cant speed on it unless you are really trying. Cant do freeways speeds, but as a learner or p plater you are speed restricted anyways. The 10 L tank will get you 300-400km range depending on how you ride it.
Yeah im not a fan of riding motorcycles in traffic due to inattentive others in cars. Slightly better with the stainless yoshimura exhaust on little bike. You cannot make a single sound good, but atleast it can be heard as the stock exhaust was deadly quiet.

Yes, the extra hour of light fades the curtains, too. That's a cost I'm prepared to bear.

Fiesta ST engine defect light came on.

Thought it may have been a recent oil change where I overfilled it somewhat. Attached my SCT tuner and ran scan, showed generic engine code defect. Second time showed reduced turbo boost -check turbo etc.

Was raining heavily so after work at night drove the Fiesta into my garage, windows open revved engine and heard a whistle which sounded off.

Anyway, checked the torque tightening of the Mountune hi flow throttle body bolts and associated plumbing holders, and some of the bolts and nuts seemed a tad loose. After tightening, the odd whistle had reduced markedly, and after dumping some oil, took car for a run.

And yes, had not realised over time bolt loosening and a leak had developed bleeding torque.

Removed the code defect, and torque steer is back on the menu boys.

Made me feel good to diagnose and rectify problem, with added benefit of the engine getting back some 25% torque.

Default Re: What made you feel good today?

Have been suffering with depression lately getting used to living in a new state and dealing with the past few years of shitfights etc.
Had a job to do at the new place that if I got it wrong would be in plain sight and it would be a massive issue to fix it.
Kept thinking about it and had convinced myself I'd cock it up so was just avoiding doing it.
Got home from work this arvo and thought stuff it , here goes, gritted my teeth and cracked into it.
Job come out perfect!
It ended up that good that the first thing the missus said when she walked in the door was how good it looked and how happy she is with it.
Has given me back some self esteem and motorvation.
