Spotted an XC Cobra on the foreshore road around Mt Martha today.

Seriously, it is one of the all time great looking cars on the road.

So much presence, so clean looking but with that menacing stance as it meandered along.

Made my day but last time I saw one just out for a drive and not on display was a long long time ago.

Hi Guys
well in down town Goulburn this weekend Saturday morning on the 19/2/2022 i saw a 1973 Ford LTD white.
I really didnt think there any of these around still. i was so shocked that i pulled over to have a look it was the Australian LTD and not the American LTD.

Then on Sunday i go to a race track in Marulan most sunday's and its called Pheasant Wood Circut.
When i got there and theres a spot where i go to on top of a small hill to watch the cars a Holden Torana LH V8 SL.

I didnt get to talk to the old bloke who had the Torana because he left not long after i got there.
The Torana was gold in colour ,twin exhausts, automatic and really in good condition.

seeing those cars made my weekend.

How did you know it was a 1973 LTD they could be 1973 to 1976.
The earliest LTD I have seen was made May 1973 and they came on sale from 8/1973.

The USA ones are called Galaxie LTD from the 1969 models to 1972. and the 1964 to 1978 models were called Galaxie 500.

So in the USA them Galaxies are Galaxie Custom.
Galaxie 500.
Galaxie XL.
Galaxie LTD.
Galaxie Brougham and such.

So our Australian LTD is not related to the Ford Galaxie family at all truly.

We just took the LTD name and put it on our Fairlane and up dated spec.

Not to mention our 1972 Aussie ZF Fairlane spec could be a higher spec than the Galaxie LTD could be, The ZF could come with Power windows and LSD. you could not get them options even in our 1972 Galaxie LTD.

Our P5 LTD was lacking the rear coil springs of the 1965 to 1972 Galaxies not to mention they had panhard rod as well with the coils, Australia only got that advanced setup in the VB Commodore late 1978.

So the Galaxies did handle much better than the P5 LTD when you had fitted better shocks to them, the USA were into totally crappy weak useless shocks to get a sloppy ride.

close but not quite., from 72-79 the ltd was a bigger car than fairlane sitting on a longer wheelbase, with different rear doors and roof different front and rear ends different rear windows and many difference in the larger cabin.

p5 went from aug 73 to mid 76

Well Bathurst 77,
The model was P5 Ford LTD and its head lights were hidden. It was a four door car but i do recall that they also brought out a 2 door model called the the Ford Landau.

Bit of a small world as I live in Marulan and also saw the LTD cruising around Goulburn on Saturday. We had breakfast at the Paragon and I watched it cruising along Auburn St as we came out.

Really, I could of said Falcon based off as it is, but I put Fairlane based off and plus all you said I do know.

I thought the P5 was made from 5/1973 but they were on sale from 8/1973 and made to May or June 1976
But the ZH Fairlane came out on sale early 5/1976 or so with pre ADR27A so they got the old ZG 351 2 barrel carby and C4 auto. and 302 got the 2 barrel. until the ADR27A date when the 5.8L got the FMX auto and 4 barrel carby and 4.9L got the 4 barrel.

I would say that the ZH Fairlane was the best looking car Aus Ford ever made and had the best rear seat, the P5 LTD rear seat was not as good as the ZH and the P6 LTD was noting much over a ZH Fairlane to truly make a big deal about such sitting in the rear.

I think the P5 was the first to have air-con ducted to the rear seats. when did Holden get that ? 1980 WB.

When talking about such cars, were they come into their class is the rear passengers comfort on long trips that stands out most as to why one would buy such over a Fairmont.

So to see a ZH 351 with pre ADR27A now that would be a car you don't see anymore.

I believe that the P5 LTD and Landau could be optioned with dual exhaust and the ZH and P6 LTD as well and you can see the rear bumper is specially made for dual or single exhaust and the P5 Ltd bottom under the bumper comes dual exhaust or single as well.

Most I have seen are only single exhaust, so the dual exhaust is the ones you may not see many of anymore.

Not to mention that when the XD came out we see the power ratings drop on the V8's so I believe that reflects to the single exhaust ! and the XC, ZH, P6 power ratings only reflect the dual exhaust.

Gen. 1 Focus sedan, nice condition and a Holden Jackaroo, late 1980s? Two door, looked like a pretty short wheelbase thing. And yesterday: Lotus Eclat (that's what it said on the side).

Yep, Toyota Crown wagon.
From memory they were 4 cyl 3 speed manual with an electric overdrive.

a Mate of mine had a ute very similar to this.

I reckon the 4 cyl was a 4 spd and the 6 cyl which used basically the same body ran the 3spd with electric overdrive.Don’t reckon the wheel covers are original otherwise looks like a real nice unit.

They did have an overdrive unit, but it wasn't electric !

It was controlled by a knob on the dash which you pulled out to actuate it (like a manual choke).

Recently a house i drive past has a new acquisition. Im guessing they're 4x4 people as the have a lifted prado and a lifted patrol, but the new thing is a toyota tercel. At a guess it would be a late 80s thing. But it appears from a distance to be in pretty good shape.

I'd practically forgotten these ****heaps existed, and that my Dad actually bought one, until I saw one listed, in passing.

Just another boneheaded move by FoA.

Dad, being a Ford Man, traded his XF Fairmont in on one.
My lasting memory is of the truly nasty and cheap interior.
Sadly, it was the last Ford Dad would own.

That was the Ford you bought when you really bought a Nissan. It wasn't Ford's idea it was the era of Toyota Lexcen etc under the Dutton plan which should have been to increase the sharing of parts not models in my view.

Pulled into my hotel in Sydney yesterday, as I was arriving, a white XG Falcon ute, slammed on chrome 12 slotters with big chunky sidewalls was departing, fired up, lumpy V8 idle with a loud exhaust.

Such a simple combo but absolutely mint car.
