Time for my comment. It's a good looking car. Full stop. The rear end? 100x better than the FG. I always hated the FG rear end anyway. Looked like a saggy droopy sack of cr@p with it's oversized awkwardly angled rear bumper and the way the boot sloped down out toward the rear. It just looked odd.
The new rear looks nice regardless of whether it's pretty well a copy of the Jag. I mean look at this car! It just looks good, not cheap, not plasticky or understyled or even underdone with what I've seen so far. End of story. |

^^^^ Just goes to show how different we are. I've always thought the rear 3/4 shot of the FG was the best angle and I love the tail lights. (I don't think it's right to praise the new by criticizing the old one particularly when we haven't seen the new one in the metal and on all models.)
With the new one I think the rear end looks pretty classy too and I'm interested to see how they treat it for the XR8. From all indicators Ford Australia have done a great job on this last model.

I've just called my finance guy to change the finance terms on our new SZ to 3yr/0%, so that I have less owing when I buy the FZ, lol....not many cars look worse in real life compared to their photos, this one is going out as a mean looking stunner.

This new Falcon is so sharp. The front lights look aggressive, like the car is squinting down the road. The front bar is creased near light to help with that look. The look is helped with high wide grill. The face of the car reminds me what the USAAF P40 Kittyhawks. The ground crews painted the angry face onto the fighter.

What has happened is for more reasons then just the bloke in charge, I can't see how Geoff Polites would have had too much effect. Well, might have had the last ever falcon with a electronic hand brake and a diesel perhaps...

Do people forget Geoff went to work for Jag? He was too valuable to the Ford empire to be working 'down under'

Ford Australia looks on the surface like it has been in autopilot for years, I don't even think we have had decent Falcon advertising since the Geoff Polites BA days. He got me into my first new BA Falcon in '03...

Geez guys...RIP....
The Jag cues have nothing to do with ownerships once upon a time....just current trends. You could start drawing long bows like.. You could go on forever.

I don't view this as a bad thing either, I just think Ford have decided "You know what? Those XF Jag tail lights would look awesome on the FX, let's do it." Last edited by |Nate; 05-08-2014 at 01:41 PM. |

So... have Ford released what the new Falcon's going to be called yet? So far I've heard FH, FN, FU, FX, FZ

Gents how about we give it a rest, agree to disagree, and stick to discussion that's interesting and relevant to the thread

Despite the fact that the XD was designed with every intent to look Euro and really did look like a Granada? XD even used Granada parts...
But wasn't that the appeal/core of Australian cars? a strange brew of Euro and American styles? That's the thing that absolute s**ts me about the constant "the FH is crap because it looks like a "monuar" its too euro and doesn't look like a falcon" tripe seen every time a photo is posted, Ford Australia (believe it or not) don't exist in a bubble, quarantined from the rest of the styling world. From the first "Australian designed" Falcon right up till now, the Falcon has always been our car with global trending traits and brand language built for us. About the only thing common in Falcon design is 3-box design, 4 doors and wheels...and over 50 years we have seen the Falcon chop and change, introducing daring features like the lowered belt line on the XD, wrap-around doors on the EA, blank grilles...geometric shapes...list goes on... gesus...imagine if they introduced a 5-door hatch body shape?

There are so many more important things in life to be concerned about other than arguing about the design of a new car.

Those cars are similar but the Jag XF and new Falcon have an identical chrome strip that goes right across and ties into the blinkers and reverse lights. I don't think HQ had much say in our styling, but it goes a bit behind styling trends when the chief designers of Ford and Jaguar are brothers.

With respect, that's exactly what this thread is about. What can be discussed then? It's all connected to the design of the new Falcon. Can't get much more relevant than that.
