Also, if GasoLane calls you on something don't reply with abuse. Generally, if he has posted something calling you out with some wit included, it is his way of moderating and telling you to change your ways. He has the unenviable task of trying to keep these areas of AFF under control and does a great job of doing so. One of the reasons he does such a great job is that he tries to keep any moderating light hearted.

If you don't like the fact that Gaso does use some wit when he moderates then no drama, he can start moderating like me and be a grumpy old bastard!!!!

Not exactly true, most states will replace an elector if they don't follow the rules. Some don't, in 2016 I think half a dozen voted for a third candidate. Not enough to make a difference. But this is 2020 so who knows.

Trump tried that in Pennsylvania (I think it was) and was told it won't be happening.

The manner of how the President of the USA is elected is contained in The US Constitution and a number of Amendments to that Constitution.

They are:

Article II,
and Amendments numbered 12 (1804), 20 (1933), 22 (1951), 23 (1961) and 25 (1967). The bracketed numbers are the years when the numbered Amendment was ratified.

The ratification process is itself a convoluted one and can take several years being processed for various reasons.

There is a useful book that deals with the lack of democratic process in the Presidential election (by which I mean the election is not simply that the elected person enjoys a majority of the popular votes cast.).

Presidential Lottery: James A Michener, Secker & Warburg (1969)

Michener subtitles the book 'The reckless gamble in the American electoral system' and he writes with some authority because he was asked to consider, and accepted, appointment as an elector for Pennsylvania in 1968.

It makes for interesting reading.

The state where DJT inserted himself into the process was Michigan, by telephoning a member of the Wayne County certification panel who had voted to certify the vote, subsequent to the phone call the member attempted to alter their vote by Affidavit, which as it turns out isn't allowed by Michigan law. Detroit sits in Wayne County. DJT also invited two of the State's legislators (Republicans) to the White House last Friday for whatever purpose but I have some confidence that it was not to tell them about his latest golf exploits.

I have very high confidence that if a candidate for election to any parliament in Australia tried this sort of nonsense, the relevant State or Federal Police would be quickly involved and when proven the culprit would be likely detained with a custodial sentence.

Biden seems like an reasonable bloke, but I'm worried when Harris takes over. She looks like she has an axe to grind. Pence smashed her in the debate, so I think the media makes her look better than she actually is.
