One thing interests me are the 'new (not new)' wheels....may make at least a readily available factory upgrade for us not blessed with 9" rears, no VIN required. Curious too if they're still running the FPV branding or switched to Ford branding on....

They will have Ford centercaps.
But they will still have FPV stamped on the back of them.

Im guessing the s/c v8 air filter housing still has the FPV logo on it though

As much as I hope you're right, I don't see them giving us an R-Spec at XR pricing. I'm hopeful that we get the base GT spec at that pricing! Happy to be wrong though...

Had a good chuckle at this, then realised that this would really suit some people (and no doubt Ford). What an inspired idea!

How many times does it need to be said. This car will have the 335 motor, the 4 pot brembos and the 275 rear tyres. It will perform as good if not better then an R Spec depending on whether it lost any weight / its wind drag. This car will be quicker then a runout GT 335.

I can't take any of this as gospel until the launch. It could have 315 or 335, it could have performance or Brembo brakes, it could have GT or GT R-Spec wheels. Until the exact specs are launched, we are only making educated guesses. From the subtle differences we have seen, there could even be two models - a base and a premium. Unlikely, based on what the insiders are saying.
I have been reading the thread with keen interest, but we could just end up with a GT spec. If it is R-Spec, then bring it! Not disagreeing with you, just hoping that you are right. I just don't wanna get my hopes too high.

I saw that black xr8 near the ford factory today. Must say it's much better in the flesh. Was amazed at how good they look

When is launch? Or is the drip feed itself the launch?
I doubt theres many FGIIs to clear, most dealers don't keep Falcon stock. The XR8 could be as collectible as Phase III... Would look phenomenal with a matte grey or black paintjob. |

What would be great to see is the brembos optional across the whole range.

What's the likelihood of them staggering the sales of the xr8?
If there's limited components will ford just sell them as quickly as possible and then just say nope, no more. Or will they drip feed them a bit to keep demand, and therefore pricing, up? Be kinda weird if we head into the last year of production with no high performance models available. Or can ford simply not build them fast enough anyway? |

Which would mean FPV wheels across the range.

Point I was trying to make is that I doubt we will get an R-Spec for $52k RRP. That would have to be some VERY sharp pricing.
I'm sure some of this stuff is available as an upgrade though - my guess is the brakes. But like I said, I'm hoping to be proven wrong, let's not get huffy. If Ford can make it work, then people buying FPVs weren't getting good value for money.

Have you compared the tractive effort/motive force numbers on the Dyno sheets for the F6's and GT's when they are being tested in the same gear? I'm not saying you haven't, but I think that's what needs to be looked at. The actual force at the wheels is what will determine the angle of the pinion under heavy throttle. I guess part of my premise was that Ford claims very similar torque figures for both the F6 and GT (although it's commonly believed that both numbers are underquoted) and F6 owners know just how potent F6's are at low revs when the Turbo spools up. Of course when it comes to real world Dyno performances, as we know there are some happy Dyno's out there, however I'd rather look at cars actual acceleration performances and I've seen quite a bit of GPS measured performance data that shows similar second gear F6/GT rolling acceleration performances up to a bit over 5000 rpm, with the GT outperforming the F6 beyond that point. Additionally my own standard untuned XR6T sedan's GPS measured performance data (no doubt in overboost mode) is similar to the F6 (although the torque drops off a fraction earlier) and the Utes were fitted with the same normal Turbo engine. Ref post 8172 on this thread. One final point. If you want to calculate the tractive effort numbers from dyno sheets that don't have the tractive effort shown, you can work it out if the road (roller) speed is shown, just keep in mind that 1 kilo newton (1000 newtons) of force, applied over 1 metre in 1 second amounts to 1 kilowatt. It's easy enough to work out when you know that. Last edited by 2242100; 29-08-2014 at 01:12 AM. |

Any chance you could give a ballpark figure on a drive away price or is that asking a bit too much?

An insider said SS V Redline pricing, and based on that, I don't see how they can do it. But you seem pretty certain, so who do I believe? We've seen Brembos, but there was also that pic that didn't have them. Optional extra, or error in artwork? Who knows, that's why I'm waiting for launch. Unless you work there or have an inside source?

I still think we will be lucky to get the GT spec for XR dollars. To hope for anything more is a real stretch. If there was that much margin in an FPV, I think their doors would still be open.

FPV's were also built in lower numbers, and had unique interiors and body components...this adds to costs.

In QLD that equates to around $59,000 on the road. I expect XR8 will be similar and that you could probably negotiate one for $57,000.
