https://stockcharts.com/ Type in: $WTIC:$XAD You will get a chart of West Texas Intermediate Crude in AUD. You can then determine the timeframe you want to see in as well as add chart indicators or moving averages if that is your thing. Then you can overlay the Fuelwatch capital city fuel prices to the timeframe you desire. You can play around with it, $BRENT:$XAD will give Brent Crude in AUD, you can also get $GOLD:$XAD or $SILVER:$XAD if you wish to see a chart of those in AUD. Stockcharts is quite good as it is free and you can use this format to compare anything in terms of anything else Cheers

I guess petrol users are freloading against private diesel users considering the extra tax that they pay when they fill up.

When the excise was created the governments reasoning was that it would go on roads. That is no longer the case. Some might, but they syphon the rest off. I don't know why they aren't being held to account for this. You can't change the reasoning for bringing a tax in just because you need more revenue. Bloody pollies think they can do whatever they want. |

What crisis? I filled my car for less than $90 which not that long ago was costing up to $120.

This is where this is all heading
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMfxJEfb4lw Thoughts please on EV heading into this market too . Fuel prices will be replaced by other costs as time goes on methinks . Re the big difference between prices of fuel even within cities it surely is a rip off and unfair . Out in the sticks we have little choice . One servo is it so no shopping around , just how it is . |

Sydney for 98 I paid $1.31, got to Canberra 3 hours later and 98 at BP was $1.63
Go figure. Costco here is usually Sydney prices, 98 today at Costco in Canberra was $1.32 while BP was still $1.61. We run two cars and by filling up at Costco we save an average of $25 a week. I kept a log for the last year and just by filling up at Costco here I saved $1432 compared to the BP around the corner, that’s a lot of money. Besides Costco Canberra prices are still a joke compared to Sydney/Melbourne

It used to amaze me how even after Costco opened the fuel depot in Canberra (the warehouse was there maybe 12-18 months before they built the servo) Canberrians were whingeing about fuel prices. Well there is one way to fix it ppl. There was a cheap outlet in Fyshwick as well which was closer to Costco than Qybn but the rest of the servo's in Fyshwick kept their prices in line with the rest of the ACT prices. |

$1.50 for 95 isn't bad. Especial when you get 4c off!

Got 98 yesterday for $1.51/L - beautiful.
Then I woke up to news of Saudi oil facilities being bombed - back up to $1.90/L we go |

Any government worth half it's salt should be looking into oil independence from the Middle East to stop us being bent over the barrel (pun intended)
Remember when we had cars that ran on LPG from the factory floor? Or look at Brazil and it's ethanol fuel that competes with regular dead dinosaur juice WITHOUT any Government subsidies. In this day and age with urban Melbournites and Sydneysiders being eco-warriors you could market a change to ethanol and LPG fuel as a green initiative while building oil independence from the Middle East. E85 would be an easy way to reduce carbon emissions hugely - we'd have to look into getting the existing fleet on our roads being able to use it. Alternatively let's get involved in another war in the Middle East and make my Raytheon shares go through the roof |

Agree, Raytheon calls hahaha....
But back to alternate fuels, there's E85 in Corio for G-Town and I'm sure you can find locations online. E85 from Aussie sugar cane (better for you than eating the sugar - keep the black strap molasses though as that has really good minerals and nutrients in it, def a superfood, you will get nice shiny hair like my grandad's horses...!), employs Aussie farmers and then Aussie plant operators and then Aussie truckies and distribution staff. Fewer carbons in chain so cleaner burn and less CO2. Cars I know of: VEII 3.0, VF MY14 3.0, 3.6 (and V8?) and a selection of Captivas were all factory E85. For the Ford inline 6, a tune exists for this, anyone running their I6 on E85? For LPG it's a byproduct of our refineries I think. The really interesting one would be CNG which we have 300 years of supply. Now, any mechanically minded FF crew, can you tell me, can CNG be burned in diesel motors? What mods would you need? Elegant solution, power the vehicle fleet with CNG, reduce the foreign oil deficit, engineer the motor changes here, not have to completely re-wire the power grid for electric (bankrupting the country), uses existing engine tech, far fewer carbons in chain so burns cleaner with less CO2. What's not to like? Or we could buy the oil and sell all the CNG for pennies.

I think Holden dropped support for E85 on the VFII update on their Commodores.
The VEII and VF models support it I believe. Caltex withdrew their support for E85 and now it's just United that sells it. |

VF MY14 - yep
VF MY15 - nope VFII - nope Techs I have talked to say it would be easy to chip the latter for it, MY 14 had better rubber hoses iirc? Again that could be upgraded. Would be a nice extra feature for your car to have if the news suddenly has the supply blowing up! (Also, not officially illegal but very involved process to be approved to do it, you could brew a big beer up, then distill your auto fuel if you had the feedstock handy. Check this though, it's a few years since I looked through the legislation. If you are Kiwi, distill away. You'd be moonshinin' like Henry Ford designed the Model T to be run on!) We've run our Terry on the 94 octane E10 (from United???) and you can feel an extra rev and sprightlyness to it. Pouring in can smell like Vodka. Exhaust a little nicer too. Doesn't quite have the torque of BP 98, but very nice anyway.

The other fuel is electrons. More electric cars, less demand for fuel, price effect is down. So the analysis says. So we should be encouraging people to go that way if it suits them.

Expect petrol prices to rise.
Best to fill up now. Drone attacks in Saudi Arabia have knocked out half of the kingdom’s crude output, or about 5 percent of world supplies. The U.S. is prepared to tap their emergency oil reserves if necessary to cover supply disruptions. https://www.pressherald.com/2019/09/...stash-in-play/ |

Pretty funny how a bunch of militia managed to cripple 50% of a countries oil refining capability with a few drones.
It'd be like someone taking out 50% of Australia's mining exports with a few thousand bucks worth of equipment. Get your **** together Saudi Arabia and maybe less concern about women not being covered head to toe and more protection of oil refinery. |

Oil has opened on the Sunday (US) futures trading 19% higher, biggest ever rise & comparable to its 1991 pre-Gulf War 1 rise. Currently I'm seeing just under a 10% rise as the price has faded slightly. If "slightly" is the word - it's a multiple sigma move both ways.
