[QUOTE=Work Horse;6366603]They had Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in the lead roles originally we all dodged a bullet there I think.
I would have given the movie a wide berth if Tom was in the movie. |

Was a very entertaining evening at the Blacktown drive in last night. A wide range of vehicles on display, followed by good movie with excellent sound track.
Having control over your own volume, then the car became the perfect chamber to immerse your senses in SOUND....

Brilliant movie, can't help but get attached to Miles in the movie.
Aside from the usual timeline shuffles that occur with story telling, the biggest flaw i felt was the J-Car (what miles was killed in) and the MK4 GT40 (red one seen at the end with Dan Gurney hopping out) were nothing like the real cars...but only a minute thing given the screen time. The various other versions looked on point. Bloody awesone seeing a production line of Falcons too! Didn't quite understand Duces' production line shutdown and rant though.

Watched it today. Cars sounded and looked nice but it was typical Hollywood fluff...........
In saying that I'm not a huge movie fan , but a lot of people will like it........

Great movie, well worth watching.
Only 2 faults for me, was no mention of the fact that the car was essentially an English Lola & in the main race at the end, they made no mention of the fact that his co-driver was Denny Hulme. Dr Terry |

The GT40 was already designed before the association with Lola/Broadley was reached. Basically, they needed a car quick smart to test out alot of the components and the short time frame called for an exsisting car to be used as a test bed...here comes the Lola MK6. The Lola already had the power of a Ford V8 and the monocoque chassis that the GT40 was designed with, do it fitted the criteria. Broadley (Lola guru) clashed with Ford as his knowledge wasn't taken seriously (high nose/high weight) and split from the project.

I also thought that Broadley left in early 1964 over arguments about Ford's decision to change from an aluminium monocoque to a steel chassis. Sure, the GT40 is more a Ford than a Lola, but my point was that it didn't get a mention in the movie. They didn't even mention that it was built/developed in the UK. If you want the real truth on this subject(rather than Hollywood’s “sugar” coated version.)I suggest everybody read “Go like Hell”(Auth:A.J.Baime.)Ford,Ferrari,& their battle for speed & glory @ Le Mans.

I must add in one of the Shelby interviews I've seen on YouTube, Shelby realises mid-answer he has forgotten to mention someone that was very important to their overall success at LeMans and he seems disappointed with himself. He asks the interviewer if they can stop, restart the answer to that question and off they go. I know it's mentioned Shelby liked to talk however I think this one situation showed the character of the man and that he really wanted to stress he was only one member of a very united and dedicated team and success was to be shared.

Saw the movie Friday night - top quality Hollywood production with everything a car nut would want - even the wife walked out saying how good the film was.
Nuf said - do yourself a favour and get out and see it - don't get involved with all of the historical mumbo jumbo - get out and see it before it's off the big screen. |

Saw it at the drive-ins last night, I'm not much of a movie watcher, my attention span is too short so it didn't take long before I started cleaning dust from my air vents, noticing dirt spots on the windscreen and being thoroughly annoyed that the drivers side bailey channel rubber had slipped down by a centimetre or so and I didn't have any tools too pry it out and up.
Anyway I got through the movie, Mrs enjoyed it and now wants to watch a couple of the factual doco's on the cars.

I found recently on Netflix if anyone hasn't mentioned this The 24Hour War done in 2016, 1hr 39mins. Started watching it last night. Lots and lots of real old footage. It covers the rise of Enzo and his Dad to interviews with Enzo's son and then the Ford side from Henry to son to grandson interviews to Shelby and team members to driver interviews. Its great actually wish it could go longer.......

The late, great Carroll Shelby talks about the Ford/Ferrari war, among a few other things. Goes for just over 90 minutes.

Very much enjoyed it especially on the big screen, a must see for Ford fans. Skirts around the true story and no mention of the English development of the car which was sad but hey, that's Hollywood. The main stars were well chosen and I noticed Ben Collins ( Stig 1) in a cameo as Denny Hulme.
Worth a watch. GT450 |

I wouldn't say no mention, Matt Damon did introduce the GT40 to Christian Bale as "Just got off the plane from England"

What a great movie, some artistic licence taken but's thats to be expected, it's Hollywood, Matt Damon and Christian bale do an outstanding job in their roles especially Bale's portrayal of Ken Miles.....the driving and racing scenes where brilliant, with the big screen surround sound system you could feel the engines...........an all round brilliant movie!
Oh, and if anyone has any money left after Christmas you can bid on one of the screen cars....if only https://www.motorious.com/articles/n...ken-miles-gt40 Quote:

There was one point in the flick when "the secondaries come in to soft" and a call was made for another Holley. Showing the 8 trumpets in the same frame sort of made me laugh but 99% of folks dont know or care. I really enjoyed the movie.

Saw it in the premium cinema with youngest son - excellent! Very heartening to see this come out of Hollywood compared to some of their recent films.
Christian Bale was masterful, even the way Ken Miles walked and the way he sipped tea, fantastic performance. Noah Jupe was very good. But I also loved Tracy Letts' role as Henry Ford II, "Hank the Deuce". The moment Iacocca tells him what Ferrari said, his ability to summon a leviathan to a task, yes the GT40 ride, and him showing Shelby the faraway plant and asking who really won WW2: fantastic proud character very sure of who he was, what Ford was and where it stood. Loved the XK Falcons and Mollie hammering the Fairlane wagon (I think - that thing was beautiful!). The idea that a race driver is often nurturing the car, making sure it lasts, not just going hell for leather. Allan Moffat described that was how he drove GTHOs, he put a lot of the physical stress on himself and preserved the car around the track. We also noticed the parallels between how Lemans developed, and how we know Bathurst did. Last time we went through NSW we did the road at Mt Panorama quite a few times and visited the museum. I thought Enzo was treated with respect too. The American auto world at its finest.

Brilliant movie. ! Ford spent $10m in 1966 on Le Mans. A lot of money in 1966.

for your information, NETFLIX has a 90 min documentary on the whole matter. its called
24 HOUR WAR this current documentary has the real people, real cars, real tracks, real facts. i watched it twice in a row, it was that compelling......then going to the movies to see the Hollywood production. if you never see the NETFLIX doco.......the movies is great and believeable. if you see the doco first........the movie will show gaping holes in the story and oyu will walk away knowing that many people were left out of the facts.

Went and saw it Sunday. Was excellent.
Dunno why they skipped over the original bare bones coming from Lola, and the fact Shelby was never on board from the start. He was brought in later on when the first versions proved unreliable, and not fast enough. |
