good luck mate, marriage is all only what you put into it. put in the effort and it will be all good. i have a couple of rules i follow that might help you out though.
1, i always wear the pants in the relationship, right up till i get home. 2, i really do wear the pants in the relationship, she just says which pair and when to wear them. i also think that the whole ask the father thing is great. i only have one daughter, but i cant wait to screw with some young guys head when the time comes. |

some things i've learned in the last few years-
no man has ever been strangled to death while doing the dishes. if all else fails- she is right...if in doubt- she is right....even when she's wrong- she is right....if you ever want special cuddles again- she is right. she will alway have more wardrobe space than you- just deal with it. don't ever, for the love of god, tell her she's becoming her mother- it'll make her more determined to prove you right.

Don't listen to all the about not getting married and its a bad decision etc... This is just coming from guys who have made the wrong decision and have been screwed...
Glad it seems to be working out for you champ... And that the soon to be father in law was cool... I am sure he respects you for it... I didn't ask my father in law, which I kinda regret, but I wanted it to be a surprise for everyone... And we get on really well, so I knew he would be happy... In the end, we have been together for 11 years, married for 7 and have a beautiful 18 month old daughter... Life is what you make of it champ... And if your Mrs makes you happy and vice versa, you are making the right decision... Leave the grumpy divorced bastards to themselves to enjoy their hands! : |

Something for everyone... :
Finally, the guys' side of the story. ( I must admit, it's pretty good..) We always hear 'the rules' From the female side ...Now here are the rules from the male side. Maybe you should show this to your GF and make sure she understands before saying "YES" These are our rules! Please note.. these are all numbered '1 ' ON PURPOSE! 1. Men are NOT mind readers. 1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down. 1. Sunday sports: It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be. 1. Crying is blackmail. 1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it! 1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question. 1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for. 1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become Null and void after 7 Days. 1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us. 1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one. 1. You can either ask us to do something Or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself. 1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.. 1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we 1. ALL men see in only 16 colours, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A colour. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is. 1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that. 1. If we ask what is wrong and you say 'nothing,' We will act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle. 1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, expect an answer you don't want to hear. 1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine...Really 1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball or motor sports 1. You have enough clothes. 1. You have too many shoes. 1. I am in shape. Round IS a shape! 1. Thank you for reading this. Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight; But did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping. |

Same situation. I never asked, but I am afraid of them. Her mother hardly spoke to me until 2-3 years ago when I got a job. When I saw them 2 weeks ago her dad shook my hand and they gave us gifts : . They must be o.k with it lol. |

Good for you mate. After 3 kids and 9 years asking for permission seems redundant to me........... But power to you for taking that route.

Friday night I have hired her dream car (new bmw m3) and my sister is taking her out for a "girls night" so my sis and her will be out (my gf thinks im out on a boys night) and then I will turn up at the cafe they are at, take her accross the road to a spot somewhere (i wont give away location) and I will propose, then we are driving the m3 down to Geelong to our fav restaurant and have a great night!!

Good on ya mate. Brings a smile to my face reading this thread. I am hopefully doing this all in the coming months. My missus's fav car though is a 67 pillarliss implala. lol. Anyone know where i can hire one. My partner knows though. We looked at rings together and she told me i have to ask her dad. I'm sure he is fine though cause we get along well. I really want to surprise her but the longer i leave it so she won't be expecting it she brings it up again dropping hints. ha ha. Bloody woman.

I went through this and the actual proposal about a year ago. Difference for me was that I asked both parents at the same time. It was bloody nerve racking. Her Dad is a really nice guy though so they took it well. Her mother was actually much more hard work. Before I knew it I was being interrogated about what my "plan" was for me and my Fiance! What a load! Anyways they eventually said yes.
If you have enough respect to give her Dad the right to refuse I am sure he will be chuffed enough to say yes. Definitely do it over a beer or wine. I hope it goes (or went) really well mate. |
