I have had the opposite experiences, as many blokes portraying here. I am sort of old fashioned but not to the point of living in the 50's.
I meet a girl at a pub, and we danced and had fun. (I hate dancing!!) but asked if I could call her. She said yes, so did the waiting thing, did not want to be to eager. Rang her up, arranged a "date" went out, back to her place, and ended up in bed, clearly new what was about to happen, and I politely said, look we can do this and you'll never see me again, or we can wait and I'll see you tomorrow (My mates CANNED ME TO DEATH!!! for being a wimp about it), had some cuddles and some kisses, was really nice, had to get going the next day, she was asleep so did the flower on the pillow bit. and called later. I don't think she had ever been umm sexually rejected before. one thing lead to another and we ended up together, she had heaps of boyfriends before, but because she was honest and up front with me, I respected that. long story short, she ended up my fiance with my intentions to get married, Until I was told she had been unhappy (never mentioned a word about it, must have bottled it up inside, everyone, my friends, family were shocked) no one new. even her friends had no idea, or if they did, they didnt tell me (I rang and asked a few) She had been leading a double life, with me and with some one else, not sure how long for its irrelevant (6 years we were together), then in the end, she mouthed off, said somethings that were true, and some that were just blatant lies. Even said, its no someone else etc etc swore on her grand mothers life. I new better, but did not say anything/do anything, in the end. she turned out to be the biggest liar in the world! I had zero idea. So were is the point, ok, I think today, males are very sceptical of females and have put up defenses to prevent stuff like that happening to them. I know a great many guys that go to extraordinary lengths, to protect assets/money to protect what they have, as some females, seem to get to an age where, they will fall in "LOVE" based on what the guy can provide them.. It is a two way street, but I think a great many females, think that the role they have to play is something to be looked after. I disagree Its a partnership, you look after each other. Also I am not to touchy feely, but men and women think differently "men are from mars etc", communication to is different. I am not a tight a$$, but I have hung at with a few girls since, and paid for many things, drinks etc etc, out of the dozen or so, not one of them bought me a drink. I did not care, but in a way, re-enforces the concept that being female entitles you to being paid for. after a while a guy goes pfffft. Ideal women, Smart, HONEST!, able to communicate, have own interests, sex maniac when time is right, caring, soft, earns/respects money, contributes, could be a good mother, long hair, a girly girl but not to the point of a princess, a person that can do things by them selves, independent but not to the point of not wanting/needing anyone. Be realistic about the good times and bad times. Not blame everyone else without being able to cop some of the blame yourself. Not a quitter! if they exist.... |

A generally decreasing social 'SELF' education is part to blame along with poor peer group choices. Yes parents can have an influence on who you hang around with. It's thier job. We have all heard someone say to thier parents 'you can't tell me who to be friends with'. No they can't but they can give you a good idea of who your real mates are.
I see the local guys and girls walking about and here on the sunny coast. It's either the guy has just as much makeup on as the girl or he hasn't done his hair in a week. That and their are pants halfway down around thier ****. Sadly it's slim pickings for alot of girls around here. Granted these people are a lil younger than you and I (26) but the self image some people have has gotten way out of reality. Then theres the good old 'take pride in the way you dress and present yourself' line that my parents massaged into my head from an early age. This for the most part is gone. I also find that most of the blokes my age and under up here wouldn't know how to treat a good mate let alone a girl on a date. Nor do most younger people up here have a good work ethic. The way they talk is poor, thier posture is poor, thier vocabulary is relatively small. Yes i'm generally refering to teenagers and young adults. What does all this have to do with the topic? During these formative years where schools and parents once had the ability and drive to teach many of these social lessons it seems that some or even most of the basic life lessons are getting forgotten or not taught properly. By the time these people are ...oh say 25! They are set in thier ways. Probably can't understand why they should shave and put deoderant and good louck getting one that will open the car door for you. IT'S ALL ABOUT THEM AND THE EFFORT THEY CAN'T BE BOTHERED AFFORDING TO ANYTHING THAT ISN'T TANGIBLE AND IMMEDIATELY REWARDING! sorry for shouting. I suppose I'm a lil old fashoned with some things. Yes i'm taken. Junior will be here in about 11 weeks too

This isnt my writings, but I've read it a few times, so I thought I'd share it with you.
Ode to the Nice Guys This rant was written for the Wharton Undergraduate Journal This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style. This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they’re at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don’t end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you. This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn’t worry about it. This is for that time she interrupted the best killing spree you’d ever orchestrated in GTA3 to rant about a rumor that romantically linked her and the guy she thinks is the most repulsive person in the world. And even though you thought it was immature and you had nothing against the guy, you paused the game for two hours and helped her concoct a counter-rumor to spread around the floor. This is also for that time she didn’t have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing “serious” between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you, justifying each fit of reckless teasing by announcing to everyone: “oh, but we’re just friends!” And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you’re nice like that. The nice guys don’t often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don’t seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can’t. From what I have observed on campus and what I have learned from talking to friends at other schools and in the workplace, the only conclusion I can form is that many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things such as “oh, he’s too nice to date” or “he would be a good boyfriend but he’s not for me” or “he already puts up with so much from me, I couldn’t possibly ask him out!” or the most frustrating of all: “no, it would ruin our friendship.” Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. Sorry, guys, girls like that are beyond my ability to fathom. I can’t figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I’m going to sleep with this complete *** now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn’t last forever. There are definitely many girls who grow out of that train of thought and realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single. So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you’re sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming. |

Poison Ivy and Fiery, I completely agree. I have gone on way too many dates to mention over the past 12 months, some absolutely fantastic, and others I wish I hadn't wasted the time and effort in walking out my front door for. I don't think it is too much to ask for a man to shower, wear deodorant etc....show a little effort and a little respect for the other person. It doesnt mean they have to lay their coat over water so you don't get your shoes wet, but a little bit of chivalry never goes astray.
In saying that, I think you need to stay open to the fact that your "true love" may not necessarily look like you thought it was going to. I made a decision to agree to every single date I was asked on, over a two month period, regardless of whether I was initially attracted to the person. I am now sharing my life with someone who has redefined everything I had ever wanted out of a relationship, and out of my life as a whole, and who has made me look back over my past experiences and realise that what I thought was "magic" didn't even come close. This from someone, who on face value, I would have ordinarily said no too. Good luck, enjoy, but never ever settle for the sake of "having someone there" and "growing to love them". Anything short of butterflies at the first touch is not enough. |

Observing human behaviour in this way can be quite fascinating from a quite clinical perspective. Its also the reason why people watch Big Brother... Glad they are not involved in it, but interested in watching nonetheless, with minimal input.
