I wish. they started this all off. don't introduce manual models, and then use the excuse of low sales volumes for not introducing manual models.

you know, that's another reason for us to lobby for fuel standards. Instead of last decade's Eu5 models we could then get latest Eu6 UK models. Doubtless jobs-for-the-boys would still mean they have to be ADR compliant rather than ECE but at least there would be half a chance.

Bold is the volume buyer more than the others mentioned in spade loads.

I'm afraid naddis is looking at the big void left in todays market - manuals/sporty mid to small SUV hardly mix in todays world, especially in the volume brands.
Then again he could go to the wildside of SUV's forgetting stick shift buy a hipo euro with paddle shift are mega unreal loads of fun.
Franco so why isn't papa buying a SUV being old/makes noise's getting in and out

serious note, I'm assuming you have tried the very simple idea of approaching slowly at a sideways angle like most people would do with low cars and speedhumps. This won't make a huge difference if the driveway is narrow, but it might make just enough if the car only just touches
Yes I have tried and I have got it in with this method however when the Raptor is parked in there as well there is not enough room for my wife to confidently make the move. Not to mention it's a pain in the rectum. Especially when reversing the procedure.

I did suggest to her about just launching it in there but stopping before the fence on the far side might be an issue.

That's the easy option but I'd prefer to park it behind a 6' fence to keep the locals away.

A second driveway means you're not wasting money on reconfiguring the current one, possibly even adding value to the property in the process. Just an idea.
No room for another driveway. It is 8m from the front fence to the carport. I would estimate the rise to be between 1.5-2m. The front yard is terraced with a fence on the front boundary.

I'm not sure the other suggestions of the Yaris GR, Fiesta ST (Are these even still available?) and WRX would fair much better.

I think, in all honesty, you are going to have to forget the manual option if you want to buy anything halfway decent that's not 10 years old. Of course the modern 8 and 10 speed auto trans are nothing like the old clonkers. I reckon it's a good excuse for a **** load of test drives

Because he enjoys driving and hasn't given up on life yet, he's also anti SUV

Both my oldies, refuse to buy auto cars and still have manual cars, much like naddis

I was trying to talk him into Kia Stinger, the V6 variation but because auto only, he won't consider it.

I think there's a niche market for these kinds of buyers, its not really competition if everyone is offering the same white goods and all that changes is the badge on the front.

He wouldn't have even been looking at options this time around and would have gone straight to Ford again, but they discontinued both the Fiesta ST and the Focus ST, so there's nothing there for him anymore, so now its between the i30N/WRX. There's literally only two options in the $50K bracket now and those two are it.

Yeah fair enough, in my case I'm the local that everyone is worried about, I do my best to devalue everyones properties by having 50,000 cars out on the street/nature strip in various states of disrepair

Agree. Picking the manual option these days means picking the lower performance option. If you want to keep your hands busy, take up knitting.

Nah, the low performance option is a car with an internal combustion engine, the real performance cars don't have transmissions, or require unleaded:

So it turns out that one of my wife's friends has a WRX. We are going to try that to see how the extra ground clearance goes. I don't like the chances though. I did some measuring yesterday and I estimate we would need around 140-150mm of ground clearance, depending on wheelbase, to clear without needing to approach on an angle. Also will depend on how much the suspension settles once passengers are onboard.

Extra? WRX? Don't you mean less? It's a WRX, not an Outback.

I'd say it has more ground clearance than an i20N - it sits a bit higher than the hot hatches.

101mm for the I20N.
135mm for the WRX.

According to the spec sheets.

but,

i20N wheelbase 2580
WRX wheelbase 2670

marginally better on breakover but there isn't really much in it

Fair enough, but it also has a longer wheelbase so may not straddle the bump.

That's what I was going to add. Additional wheelbase is only going to swallow up that extra ground clearance.
