This ties in with that rumour from the other day about selling the engine production operations. Although I don't know whether that was just concerning the foundry or the entire engine operations.

I don't think I like the idea of Ford not having control over the engines being made for it's cars.

To buy engine production, doesnt mean to buy the factory. Just buy engines.

Your reading into this way too much, they want to sell the casting plant because its losing money at its current output. If they sell it to another company they can take on outside casting work to make it profitable again.

This has nothing to do with the engine plant. The volumes for airport tugs would be a lot lower than the numbers needed to supply Falcon and Territory, they will just take some additional numbers which will help Ford make more profit. It may only be 10 a day AFAIK, it won't be in high volumes, but every little bit helps. They were looking to do this for US airports around 2-3 years ago but the deal must have fell through.

They still have complete control over the engine, it will be totally on a supply basis, they take whatever Ford give them.

F100 was killed with the efforts moved to make a more fuel efficient F150 instead (EcoBoost)- a smarter move than spending a lot of money on producing a whole new truck, which on its own may be only marginally better on mpg. I think Bronco hasnt moved past concept stage, i believe Explorer will move to unibody platform and get EcoBoost engines, similar to Explorer America concept without the sliding doors.

Prodrive TVR relationship?
Commercial Generator?

They should start trialling stuff by fitting a current F6 engine into my Ef and one of my Xc's. I will allow them to fit them into my cars as a way of helping Ford.

Thats 15 years ago, and I have no doubt it has better fuel economy than the V6 as well.

True, but didn't it also make that power in 2001? (from the ED to the AU 3) There's no doubt the Falcon I6 was always ahead of the Mustang V6 engine though. The Mustang V6 has gotta be one of those engines that has just sat around without improvement, despite only getting a minor boost in 2005 - but I am sure it's still based off the older 3.8. My suspicion is, things will change big time in 2010. I think the 203kw 3.7 will replace the 4.0 as the base engine when the 300kw 5.0 takes over the 4.6 V8. It would look silly having a 3.7 now as the base engine and only a marginal increase in power on the 4.6 V8. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the 3.5L EcoBoost as an option. Perhaps even the 400HP (300kw) spec as per the F150 (Being RWD) If not, then at least the 272kw Taurus SHO spec. It seems like 2010 is the year for new Ford engines across the entire range.

Would be great to see the I6 Exported in Mass numbers, Engine supply with no other ties is a great way for Ford Aus to make some money with little to no investment.

Actually thinking about it, the I6 would be no good for boat applications because of the alloy parts in it. Unless they casted all those parts in iron as well.

I wonder if Jag would like a turbo I6 as a born-again XJ6?

why is alloy a bad thing on a marine engine

i cant think of the companies name but there is one here in au that make all their marinising components out of alloy

the alloy has a better non corosive component than the metal counterpart if it is looked after

I think it depends if the cooling system is a sealed unit, or uses seawater.

Yeah that's what I was getting at, the alloy I6 head might be ok in a car with a closed loop cooling system filled with glycol, but in a boat with an 'open' system drawing in seawater, it's going to corrode the internals of the alloy head to buggery.

Alloy headed engines are used throughout the marine industry using heat exchanger technology, no salt water passes through the head/engine.
