Never been there but apparently I own a sleeper as part of their fund raising years ago.

Watched yesterday the very first train to test run under $ydney harbour on YT as part of the new Metro line similar to London's tube) they are extending.

Great shot of the "Coffee Pot" aka steam motor coach 1 or SMC1 in SAR speak. There is a whole fascinating story on how it managed to survive and end up back in Quorn.It is the sole survivor of the 2 that were made for the SAR.

About 25yrs back, there was the whole front cab section of one of these GM type, at the local Sims Metal.
Would love to have mocked it up like it was coming out of my storage shed.

There is a cubby house made out of GM panels next to main line between hospital road and the railway station at Port Augusta until recently it was still in Commonwealth Railways maroon

Spent yesterday down on the Hawkesbury checking out a sit over Christmas.

Place hasn't changed at all since we lived on the boat here 20 years ago apart from getting rid of the super steep stairs up and down to the station platform.





Or since Jimmy Barnes made the clip "Still on your side" there back in the early 80's. (stairs were the same though, at the time Hawkesbury River had an extra up line shown.





Something I just missed taking a pic of, was a new Newcastle intercity electric set being delivered to $ydney up the Brooklyn bank by a diesel loco. Kind of odd.

Went down to Bangalow yesterday

The track and sleepers on this now long closed Casino- Murwullimbah- Condong line at this location we’re tidy every fourth sleeper was steel.

Disgusting, NSW govco closing that line down, there was quite a good amount of regular travellers using the XPT on the Murwullimbah section.

As long as the lines are still down, they can not sell or remove any track along a 100ft rail corridor.

The railtrails throughout Victoria ave been built on top of existing rail, so they can be re-converted back to heavy rail at any time.

But the only freight left was a short train out of Condong Sugar Mill with fly ash which I think is used in cement making


The line from Murwullimbah to Condong is a mess sections removed wash outs.

I guess a long line from Casino to Murbah needs freight as well as passengers to survive financially

Financially, Murwullimbah was quite healthy as far as passenger numbers were concerned.
Biggest problem I have with the XPT's (to anywhere) is they are full of concession paying card holders half the train is travelling either for free or half price, they need to free up full fare paying seats particularly in first class.

First class seats are always the first to be booked out.

Now, why can't we do what some rich American's do, they outfit beautiful old "Pullman" style carriages as "liveaboards" and pay the railway companies to pull their own personal ride behind . Unhook at their destination, nice way to travel imo.
