I'm feeling your pain mate. Bloke I know was in the exact same situation in NSW. Ended up paying about 100 for the block and it was all cool. Will work out in the end.

I'm amazed that they are still worried about a stolen engine 25 years later... far out that is just stupidity.

Maybe the cops are just jealous and trying to be pricks?

There could be a deeper reason than just the 'stolen' motor. Who knows what happened to the original owner?

Got a phone call 10mins ago*, "hey phil, just got an email from the NSW police, they've cleared the engine, I've cleared everything this end, you can pick the car up in the morning"

woohoo!

yes, we're on first-name basis lol... countless phonecalls does that :hihi:

Apparently their microfiche files don't go back anywhere near that far, so they simply cleared it. Yes, it would have been nice if it was done 4 weeks ago, but it's done now, so I'm a happy man I don't think I've been this happy for a while lol...
off to rego office in the morning for a permit then off to the impound yard

*the cop I've been dealing with does rotating shifts.

I'm taking 8:1 odds, the coupe is back in the compound tomorrow arvo for "excessive loss of traction" - within the compound.

GOOD NEWS Phil

hahahahahaha.... I want to stab someone...
went to the rego office 9am today to get the permit (to drive an unrego'd car) but before I went in I thought I'd give the ID inspection place a call to see wether I need to go back there (need to put the route on the permit).
the weird old guy says "you can't get the car, we haven't been told its been cleared" ahhh here we go...the fun and games begin..
so I call the impound yard, "yep, he's right, we can't release it till the ID guys say we can, and they won't till the police say they can"

so, as the police station is 5mins walk from the rego office I go there. Of course the guy I deal with is on arvo's atm, so I can't talk to him.. The guy I did talk to did some checks, and said that the guy I deal with has to clear it (which he told me he did) and then some other random cop from another station who has jack to do with anything (well, apparently he booked the car in to the compound) has to sign off on it and then let the ID guys know so they can tell the impound guys to release it...

as you can probably guess I'm just a tad frustrated... I'm going to require therapy after this I think.

It's kind of like a kid wanting a toy, the best toy in the world as far as he's concerned, and his parents say "ok, you can have it in the morning" so the kid gets even more excited, then in the morning they say "ha screw you, maybe tomorrow instead"..

well that was random

And now I have to work on my day off to make up the time I took off thismorning. Not happy.

Sorry to hear it Phil but honestly did you expect anything less than a complete circle jerk?
This all started exactly 1 month ago with the comment "so yeah, everyones fairly confident I'll have it home in 10 or so days. doesn't make me feel any better tho.."

Of course you were looking at it like it was run like a private business. This is Government. Not just 1 part of Government either... MULTIPLE divisions of Government. Not just NORMAL divisions either... this is the Legal side and the Traffic side... the 2 most convaluted and insanely paper pushing divisions with the exception of the Tax dept and probably Child Services.
Welcome to Hell.

Great to hear you get it back... but I'm placing bets this time next week you probably will not have had a chance to drive it home yet. At least if you think of it that way then if its any earlier (miricles do happen) than it will be a bonus.
