Only 400km from a tank does suck a bit.

I did 740km from Sydney with a boot full and car full to the roofline with 3 people. Barely fit my mates missus in the back seat.

Considering my best is 820km from a tank, I musn't have done too badly wih the car fully loaded.

I still get 500 to 550km from a tank even towing my boat or jetski.

But I also have a heavier car with a shorter diff as well as being an XR engine.

My XF used to pull 10-11l/100km on the freeway and got 600+ km tank, and that was a late 80's shitbox with half the efficiency benefits a NC would have got.

Wow! Are they heavier? Is your engine a hybrid EL/AU motor?

Last weighbridge test I did put the thing at 1647kg with a 1/2 tank of fuel, and thats as I drive it every day, but would be heavier now with my couple of additions. I should get it reweighed.

It is a hybrid engine.

When I did an 820km tank, it had the hybrid head on it. When I did the trip from Sydney, I cant remember if it had the hybrid head or my newly installed 94DT EF head. At the moment it still has the 94DT head.

a dynotune doesn't usually do your car any favours, it reads rear wheel kw and torque curvs I think you mean a custom tune, which should be available ver soon for the E series (and N series).

I spoke to this place called Mikes Dynotuning a while back. They said they can do a tune for about $125 plus parts. Siad he will need it for a couple of hours. This sound about right?

is this a custom tune or a generic tune or a dyno run... that's where i'm getting confused here. If it's just a run, it guages your power ratings.. if it's a dynoTUNE in pure essence of the word then it should involve some actual tuning.. the words are thrown around a bit. For $125 that sounds odd.. if it's a tune (even generic tune) then you're doing well. Definitely wouldn't be a custom tune.

Unless you have a reprogrammable chip, you can't really get a "tune." They can check your A:F ratio, power etc but there isn't much in the way of tuning it.

They're the sort of things that get done when being tuned, servicing normally is about oil replacement and checking and topping up fluids and inspection of car including suspension, brakes, hoses, belts, lights , radiator, tyres etc

I think what he ment was a check of some of the suff listed like checking preasure, fulemixtures etc. doesnt involve any actual tuning i guess, cous i specifically said i had my standard ECU

My EA gets 640km + on gas and around 700km + on fuel. Not bad for a work horse 11.2 per 100kms. Its T5 as well
