Ok, so are we shooting for a West Sydney / Blue Mountains cruise then?
Or do people still want to do the Drive In thing? (or both but expect the Newy people to not be at both). Date we have already established at July 16th (Saturday). Tim |

Well im happy with a West Sydney / Blue Mountains cruise. It would be fair for the sydney ppls to meet with the newy ppls in gosford/The entrance, then head out west.
Hopefully ill have my digital video camera and maybe a passenger to document the day. Have to find my walkie talkie too. OMG im already excited.

Mista, West isn't west of Gosford, it's West of Sydeny so it would be decidedly unfair for the Sydney ppl to meet in Gosford and then drive back down to Sydney to go up the Blue Mts.
I'm up for Blue Mountains and just call off the Drive - Ins. At any rate, I'm going to drive back to Melb on Sunday, will need an early night.

Yuck to Hoegaarden? Tasteless mate, sheer and utter lack of taste.

Mountians Cruise is good, will want to plan for traffic as it can get crazy up there in the afternoon.
As for the Newy guys and gals, it's a bigger trip that's for sure but I think I will just wait and pick up the cuise at another point in Sydney, which brings me up to the next point - what meeting point do you want to set? Options: - Old trusted and tested Macca's at Thornleigh (cruise will travel the M2 as a group for a mountains cruise as it would be the most direct with less traffic lights for people to get caught at) - Twin Servo's at Blacktown on the M4 which is at the foot of the mountains (thats if we are going up the M4) - Parklea Caltex on Old Windsor Road in the Steakhouse car park (thats if we are going up the mountains through Richmond and the Bells Line of Road) All suggestions mind you, someone else may have different ideas on this??? And as for hoegaarden.......you say taste? I dont think I want to know what you lick to enjoy that taste... :P

Great suggestions Whippet Zetec. May I suggest (also) we meet at M4 Twin Servo's/ Macca's then head up to Emu Plains. We could turn off and climb the Mountains via Old Bathurst Road (short but some good hairpins) join the G.W.Highway again and turn off at Springwood and go back down the Mountains via Springwood Road (some more hairpins and open road). Follow it through to the Bells Line of Road and again climb the Mountains and follow B.L. of Road to either the Darling Causeway or continue through to Lithgow and head East towards Sydney and climb Mt. Victoria. Or if we're worried about the traffic we could do it in reverse order and miss some of the traffic.
Have a look at your maps and I'll do a recce either tomorrow (Tuesday) or the day after. What's the opinion, guys?? |

The cruise sounds good, so long as its not an all day driving affair. The cruise we had out to Wisemans Ferry that time with FordLaser.com was a long one...
See how long it takes you to do the recce! Tim |

Great suggestion Eddie and am sure it would be a great cruise but would be wary of the distance you are covering and the time the Newy guys/gals will spend on the road (dont forget they will be choking down a good 2 hour approx drive home from Western Sydney if that's where we start and finish the cruise). I think maybe not cross the mountains in full might be one way to limit the distance.....

Too true Whippet, we can just cut across the Darling Causeway if we find out we're running out of time.

Damo,
I've just come back from a recce. In hindsight it's not worth doing the leg through to Lithgow. A round trip from home via Lithgow was 170kms (give or take a few). Left at 10am and was back by 1pm and that was just taking it easy and going along with some traffic on the G.W.Highway from Katoomba down. Including that stupid idiot in the earthmoving low-loader that was on my tailgate. There are a few places that we can stop, have a breather/take photo's etc. Hey Timmeh, we can even go past the R.A.A.F. Base!! |

If I'm going to go by work, even a workplace that I don't normally visit, I want to be paid LOL.
Trip sounds good, so we'll sum up the cruise into one post and run with it then, first Blue Mountains Cruise. We'll need the date, meetup location, meetup time, easiest way for people to find the meetup location, and a rough guess at duration (I'd say 2 - 2 1/2 hrs by reading your previous reply?). Good work Eddie, thanks for your effort in this one! Tim |

Fantastic. Perhaps the Caltex and Maccas at Eastern Creek? There can be a meeting at Thornleigh Maccas or even the other end of the highway for the Newie guys to drive down together and us city folk can meet at the M4 Maccas.

My sincere apologies for 'lying low' over the last week. My computer had carked it and now it's o.k. As Timmeh has suggested we'll meet on the 16th of July (Saturday) at the M4 Macca's (near Eastern Creek). I think that 9.30/10.00am is a good time. If anybody disagrees please speak up. We should be on time to get to the place I think that'll be o.k. for lunch. Looking forward to another enjoyable cruise.
