You may notice in those pictures above, the A Pillar is the thickness of an Elephants Leg.... very hard to see past and the Caprice/Calais have a bad driving position if you are extra tall.. over 6foot... but if you are happy, then fill your boots....

I like the WMs at a distance, but close up they just dont look right at the back end, the tail lights and boot length just put me off. Also Im not a fan of the dash in the Caprice.
I think the CalaisV is the pick of the VE sedans.

If you want luxo barge a second hand G8/G220 is a song to buy (low K ofcourse), with the money saved get her lowered a fraction, some nice 19's,Exhaust CAI and she'd be great.

When I saw the new Stateman for the first time, I thought 'wow'... it has great road presence, but as time wore on I've grown to dislike it. Its design just seems too contrived, and the looks are VE with stretched boot (Brougham anyone?) and higher bonnet. It looks goofy and lacks subtelty. If I was going for something in that category, I'd search for a run-out Fairlane Ghia with V8 and 6 speed auto. Stay blue.

man it is hard to believe that the Caprice is a near 80K car when you look at that interior, way too bland for my liking, looks like it was designed to compete with the BA LTD from 7 years ago.
I do have one question for you Allcoupedup, if your willing top shell out for the Caprice, why not shell out for the GT-E, they are close to lineball in price, and you get a lot more for your cash in my eyes with a GT-E than a Caprice, you can get either new for around about the 71K mark. think about it, 315Kw for the GT-E compared to 260Kw for the Caprice, or save some coin and get the G6ET, who cares if it hasn't got a V8, it will beat a V8. Also, Gaz, that Ghia of yours is spanking hot!

Besides we are comparing the GT-E's interior to the Caprice and the GT-E certainly wins that war.

I am a V8 lover too, but I am totally happy with my G6ET. The way is drives is totally awesome. I agree the Caprice looks nice on the outside, interior though it looks 5 yrs old. I never even considered Holden's because they weren't available on my lease at order time, but I really don't think I could live with the dated interior.
F6E.. still not a V8, if you have to have a V8 that's not an option. To me when it comes down to it the V8 has more soul, but when you can blat them away in the blink of an eye, who cares?

Personally if your going to go Holden Luxury, i vote for the HSV Senator, they are well fitted inside and out, look better than the rest of the HSV range and the best part.. you can score it with a 6 Speed Manual.

My mate owns a caprice and honestly speaking I have never seen so many random bits of plastic fall out in an interior there were pieces where we had no idea where they even went now I know cars lose things here and there and I have had some in my car to i dont think any are exempt but this things like a pine tree give it a shake and see how many nuts you get lol.

sure a G6E-T will beat it, but it will never have the character and cruisability of an 8. i do have to agree though that the caprice's interior looks bloody awful in comparison to the ford

Wow - what have I started!?!? I take a day off the forums and so many great responses. Seriously guys, you are actually really helping me. Keep it up. Whilst I not closer to choosing, it is definitely helping with perspectives and issues that I hadn't thought of. Thanks!
Couple of questions to answer: 1. SRT8 - yep drove one - hated it. Looked like something from fiddy cent movie and just didn't do it for me at all. Apologies to those that love it. 2. I can get new Caprice for same price and new G6ET... Hence why I'm looking at it. 3. Yep GT-E and F6-E are too expensive. 4. Someone mentioned a BF2 FGhia V8 - bloody nice one! Love the idea! Especially the pic of the one you had!!! Nice work mate. 5. Yep - out right pace is not that important to me - just like the lazy feel of the V8 and that damn throbby, grumbly, roaring note that only a V8 can make!!!!! 6. Yep - pretty happy with the subi - just not enough torque down low, great manual but and AWD is a stellar for driving on the twisty stuff. Prob is - it's small for a 2m tall chap! and it's also missing something - dunno what. I'd be interested in modding it to see if I could fix the torque issue, but then I fear that I'll be heading toward the big RICER brigade!! Yikes! 7. I'm beginning to see a pattern, even with Caprice owners... Tennis ball is definitely in the Ford court at the moment. Thanks once again guys. Oops, sorry, and gals! |

Update:
Another of our VE's lost it's brakes. Failed caliper, foot to floor!!! Now order this.. F6-e May not be the worlds cheapest car but it ticks EVERY box. even for a V8 die hard like me.

Bloody nice looking car. But seriously, for that dough (which I dont have), I'd by the GT-E. If Turbo was my 'thing' - I'd buy the G6ET in a heart beat. Pity I'm not a turbo man though... (Says he who's driving a Liberty GT-B!!) Pot calling the kettle black or what!!! I crack myself up sometimes....

if outright pace is no concern, but the v8 character is, have you looked at a plain old boring FG XR8 with luxo pack or something. can you option it minus rear spoiler? they still drive fine, have all you need and plenty of squirt.
