Well... except for the price. :

Signed up on the first rollout, didn't like the original cars... more will come later at a price. Not a fan of the tracks... more will come later at a price. Most races have pings at least around the 300 mark, so the whole race people complain about you 'glitching'. Don't like the subscription scheme, costs way too much. Don't like that you can't race offline with AI when you can't find a decent race to participate in.

At the local Arcade:

Outrun
Daytona USA
Cruis'n USA
Sega Rally --------> who could forget your codriver "Loooong medium right!"
Also there was a MotoX game where you sat on a dirt bike and had to pull it back to get sick air on jumps.

At Home:

Burnout 2
Need For Speed 1
Destruction Derby for quick meaningless fun
Gran Turismo 2 + 3
NFS Hot Pursuit
All GTA's esp the original on PS1
Twisted Metal (not exactly race based but huuuge fun)

Worst Games Ever:

Crash Bandicoot racing
Diddykong racing
Full Auto
That WWE racing game (absolutely abismal)

So far nothing for my PS3 or my mates Xbox has appealed to me.

yeah it costs a bit mate, but if you take your simming seriously, you'll already have a cockpit, ripper internet connection and the willingness to learn and excell in what you're given. $160 for a 12 month subscription to software that is constantly getting updated, to me, far outweighs paying $99 for a game like GT4 with less features and a 6 month off the shelf life

hahahhhhahaa.... i dunno about td off road. didn't like the grapics and like td4 the susspension was a bit jelly like....

Carmageddon!!!! (i scream that out the window of my car everytime i see someone cross the road in front....maybe I played that a little too much...)was a rip-off an old game based on the Stallone movie death race 2000. Great fun but not really a racing game and as such i didn't mention it. Same goes for Interstate '76. Graphics were a bit blocky but overall was a great idea and quite addictive.

Burnout...... why didn't I think of that?????

I'd also add colin mcrae rally 2. was great multiplayer. but too hard in single player modes. also rally masters was a great rally game for multiplayer.

Dick Johnson v8 Challenge was OK but far too twitchy...was difficult to keep the car straight on a straight road... no damage model and outdated graphics.... nothing unusuall for an aussie game. The same graphic engine was used later for Carmageddon TDR2000 and worked relly well in that.

I don't recall that on the SEGA but I know for a fact it was on PC (I still got it).

The first game based on the V8's was "touring Car Champions". Was a hrt production using car car model VR or EB moving left and right on a video of a lap around mt panorama. Easily one of the worst car games ever!!!!

Pre 2000 - "Grand Prix 2" (Oh how much fun I had with that - converting cars to V8's and IndyCars etc, painting your own colour schemes etc)

Post 2000 - "Grand Prix 4", even though its old, it still is awesome in the Physics department! I just wish a new one would come out with seriously updated graphics!

I also love the "GranTurismo" series. Thats the ONLY reason I own a PlayStation. And when GT5 comes along Ill buy a PS3 for it.

I have to say, that I was surprised by "NFS ProStreet". I loathed the old ones, so tacky and easy to conquer. But "ProStreet" was actually fun, and addictive. It was a let down near the end. How can cars like Escorts and Mazda's even dream about keeping in touch with a modified Zonda?!?!?!

An honourable mention must be given to "Grand Prix Unlimited" (1991???). If it wasnt for this game, I may never have gotten into car racing!

Yep the price does put alot of people off, but on the other hand you won't have to put up with 12yr olds trying to drift and ruining your race.

GP4 has extremely limited Physics and was apart from the lack of developer support one of its major drawbacks

i have no real issues with GT4 ive got a GT pro wheel(the one they advertise for the game with the red dial on it to adjust TCS and brake bias etc)

the 900 degree steering makes counter steering when spinning hard... but id say after tapping a wall at 200+kph its gonna be hard to counter steer outta that LOL.. and you should be dead

last night i was racing the Ford GT and it was awesome.. takes time to learn how the cars handle at the edge..
like hammer into a corner and it understeers.. brake to hard the comes around.. power off then on and if your going slow enough you induce a power over drift
and feels to me like a car with an engine in the boot rather than a F1 car lol

True. That can easily be avoided if you join a 'clan' though. I used to have many great Nascar 2000 races on local servers that I'd pay $10pa subscription to. They're probably still going today.

But Crammond games were reasonably solid on release. I loved the GP series. Jacques Villeneuve drove Spa using GP2 to familiarise himself with the track, got pole position and came 2nd in an F1 race. That's pretty impressive.

The 'Bathurst Legends' is a community made mod for rfactor. EK is leading the team making this mod. The mod is being released is stages. The 69' year has been released, and 72' stage is currently being worked on.

I'd say as part of the build they are using the 69 'skins' while the 72 3d model is being worked on. Hence the mistaken identity.

You have a mixture of images there. The only one that is DEFINITELY Street Rod II is the last one with the engine.

The middle two (the Chevrolet Impala) is from Street Rod I, also because stickers were not available on II.

But Street Rod is among the better. Not a great simulation, but a lot of fun.

I also dislike consoles immensely...PC only for I...

Mind you, I liked the 16 bit consoles. On the Mega Drive, Rock N Roll Racing was grand fun, while on SNES, nothing, absolutely nothing will beat Super Mario Kart. 16 bit was before games were all about graphics and sound.

Speaking of poor simulations, Grand Prix Circuit and Grand Prix Cycles (both from Accolade) were among my first ever driving games on the PC.

Microprose Grand Prix and Microprose Grand Prix II were both very good in the day.
I remember faking sickies back in Grade 3 (1993) just to stay home. I would play Microprose Grand Prix for hours. Awesome fun.

Though not a true driving game per se, I like the GTA series, especially San Andreas, for you can have a bit of fun with the cars you manage to steal. I also just like driving around, doing hand brake turns etc.

Stunts was a great game, but I felt sorry for poor Squealin' Bernie, so sometimes, I'd give him an Indy and drive the old Lambo jeep myself.

I do not believe you can simply break down the segments as pre-2000 and post 2000. That's ridiculous.

CGA was the standard in the mid to late 80s, EGA was the standard in the early 90s, while VGA was a bonus at this time. Big the mid to late 90s, SVGA was almost standard and gaming shifted massively.

Computers games came on so fast in just five years, it is ridiculous to break it down into such large portions.

Hell...my fave game ever is 16 years old. I still to this day believe the graphics, sound, music, gameplay, dialogue etc. are the best I've seen.

Speak to a little "know it all" and they'll tell you it's crap, because the graphics aren't good enough.

That's why Indy 500 was a great game. Was an actual simulation, where you could make adjustments to your car such as gear ratios, tyre pressure etc. and it would have a huge bearing on how you drove.
For a game in 1989, it was great. Papyrus re-released it later on, but I still like the original.

The top image is definatly SR2 as SR1 had the same cockpits for all the cars

I agree that Indy 500 was good with the car setup but I found all you really needed to adjust was the aerofoil angles to reduce drag. Once you knew the car setup and knew how to win the race it become boring. (left, left, left, left)

Was fun to get pole and then pull a u-turn just to wacth the carnage in replay. :thebirds:

GT5 Prologue
GTA IV (Not a driving game as such, but the driving part of it is insane)
V8 Supercars 3
Forza Motorsport
GRID
NFS: Pro Street (Alot of people don't like it, and I dont know why. I think it spanks MW, and Carbon)
