what are you looking at doing to the rear suspension?
coil overs? or something else (if u're doing coil overs i'd be xtreamly interested in how much they cost and how much effort they are to do ) |

Well I have heard I have to keep the same suspension mounting points and cannot get a coilover kit engineered to be street legal, but other people have told me otherwise, so I'll be contacting a couple of engineers and finding out.
At this stage, the plan is to go for a single or dual leaf spring rear end, if I can, i'll move them inboard to allow wider tubs, if not, keep the suspension where it is, install mini-tubs, and add flares to the body. I can only increase the overall track of the vehicle by 25mm according to the RTA so moving the suspension inboard will be a huge bonus. Tim |

Hello, Great to see you doing up an escort, i had a very hot 2ltr years ago and found with very high compression and an upjetted standard carb i was easily able to leave everything at the lights, ran out of breath at 190k but would do 100 in under 7sec.
I myself would like another escort pref a Mk1 but i am not so sure i want to get my hands dirty any more, be sure and get the crank dowled as the std bolts arent quite enough and do break. Look up Puma race engines online they have some great info on the Pinto, i have heard of 200 rwhp N/A in some cases which is awesome power per litre, you would need to bore it to 2391cc..which is 93mm bore to achive very high outputs and for road use most likely not relevent unless you want an animal. Of course you can go for a nissan engine like a sr20 which would give u 300 rwhp, but you would need a nissan gearbox and very strong diff, there is a Mk1 cortina with this set up that runs 11.5 and is a daily driver, of course expect to pay 15large to get this set up in an Escort. I have looked at this forum for a while and this is my 1st post i hope to be able to post some info that may help in the future.. |

hello I just stumbled across this site and noticed your car, very nice i might add.Im interested in the gearbox you have is it a standard RS box coz i have one on a xflow race motor in new zeland and am interested in any specs on it. I recoognized it from the extended tail housing but have never seen one anywhere before and no one seems to know any thing about it but I know its strong . By the way I built a similar motor to yours in a mk 1 i had using a 1600 ohc head, fr32 cam, twin 45s on a 2litre bottom end with sierra 5 spd and 4.1 ratio diff. Awesome fun to drive Anyway good luck with the build and thanks for any info on the gearbox.

My transmission is just the std manual 4 speed that is found on all Australian 1600 and 2L Escorts, although the RS has a quick shifter. They can be had very cheaply in wreckers or on ebay, and they are pretty tough! I have four for my rally car as well, there are still four because none have ever broken (yet anyway). Mostly it's the nylon thread on the shifters that can break. That's about all the info I have on it, but if you want more info check out the classic ford forum (www.classicford.mine.nu) as the guys there know everything about the Escorts! Tim |

thanks for that info tim, thats probably why ive never seen 1 before then if its an australian equipped unit and i noticed that the splines were suited to the ohc engines also which adds up.they can cope with a hammering though its a shame about the ratios in them. cheers jamie
