Aurion / Accord / Maxima / Passat and now Taurus..... They're all morphing into the same car!

It is actually slightly bigger than a Falcon in size. It shares its underpinnings with the Volvo S60. Ford Fusion is the US Mondeo sized vehicle and it shares its underpinnings with the previous Mazda6.
The styling may not be quite Australian tastes but it is a massive improvement on prior Taurus efforts. We probably need to get used to the styling however. Current Falcon volumes mean there is no way Ford Australia will be allowed to develop new RWD platform for Australia alone. CAFE restrictions mean US export program is not going to fly (Same fate awaits Pontiac G8). Extension of L6 to 2013 means this is obviously the year Dearborn will retire the RWD Falcon platform forever and Ford Australia will have to adopt a US or European platform for local consumption using imported V6. If Ford Australia can't make this work then local production is probably doomed. |
