I'm starting a thread to get everyone to agree on the length of a cubit. What could possibly go wrong?

I agree that technically this is the final year of the 2nd decade of this century, if we were to count from Christs birth, this is the final year of the 202nd decade, 2020 is also considered the first year of the 20s which is where the confusion comes in, history considers the decade of the 20s etc. to begin on 1/1/20 and finish on 31/12/29 which is why people have celebrated the new decades beginning.
You're almost there. I don't think you need to go back to JC's birth though.

As someone mentioned earlier the 1900s was the 20th century & the year 2000 was the last year of the 20th century (hence its name).

Therefore 2001 was the first year of the 21st century & 2010 was the last year of the 1st decade of this century & 2020 is the last year of the 2nd decade of this century. 2021 is the 1st year of the 3rd decade. Problem solved.

What has muddied the waters is using the tag, the 20s or the 30s. These are really not mathematical decades, they are just a group of 10 years which share a similar naming prefix.

That's what I said to begin with, mathematically a decade is the 1/1/2011-1/1/2020 meaning the next mathematically correct decade will start next year and can be confirmed if starting from Christs birth and counting blocks of 10's.
That is beyond doubt, I was simply saying that in modern times, society has thrown the math out the window and focussed on the decade as what could be described as an era, ie. the 20's we're from 1/1/1920 to 1/1/1929..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1920s

The 60's the same, the 90's the same and so on.

Its not technically correct, but its how its viewed and why its celebrated as such.

It means we can celebrate two years instead of 1. Celebrate the start of the 20's this year, and the start of a new decade next year
