30 odd years ago , there didn't seem to be the same attitude with booze . There was about 16-18 of us used to "hang out" together with a few girls and we could go out all night and none of us would have a drink between us and STILL have a good time . We could have a good time "as sober as" .

Don't know if it was the group I was hanging around with or not , but we'd take a "drive to Katoomba for a burger" or "Gosford for a milkshake" :

It is really interesting reading all the comments, most people worry about loss of licence if they are caught, not the fact that they could actually kill someone or kill thmselves while drink driving - interesting, where is all the morals these days.

As for the person who thinks it is Ok to drink then drive and then be happy about getting off the charge in court - well : :togo:

I have driven drunk when I was young, which was in the '70's and as others have said it was a different times then, I look back now and shudder.

There is absolutely no reason to do it these days, I have rung the Police to dob in people who are drink driving and one of those was a close family member, no guilt, just saving some lives.

I would encourage all the young ones reading this to not think about loss of licence, but to think about the grief you could cause by having an accident while driving with alcohol in your system.

0.05 is a number where all the testing has proven that, at or beyond you are more likely to have your driving/reactions/decision making impaired.

I'm ashamed to say i did when i was young and stupid (also in the 70s). I'm lucky as i never killed myself or someone else but it could have easily come out differently. any one who drink drives is a complete idiot (not to mention a potential killer) and shold be pulled off the road

As I have done a bit of study into road accidents, I have come to the understanding that in the majority of accidents, one (or some cases, both) driver was drunk.

If this country actually and genuinely cared about road safety, they would stop this speed and red light camera bullshit, and spend the money on configuring EVERY SINGLE car as a standard with a breathalyzer. So that the only way to start the car is you need to blow into it, and be sure that you are under the limit. It would reduce the road toll a hefty amount, I am sure of it.

I have never driven drunk - Before getting open license i wouldn't drink a drop - Since getting them i have probably driven borderline over the limit on a few random occasions -

I was pulled over once and asked if i had been drinking - I told the officer i had but i was on my opens and it was some hours after my last drink - i must have an honest face becuase he didn't breath test me - i wasn't worried tho - was very sober

Already Implemented for those that have been caught Drink Driving. Problem with those units is that you must breath into it every 15-20 minutes or the car will stall, REGARDLESS of where you are..!!

ON top of that you have a $300 installation fee plus a three monthly (or monthly) service charge of ~$50...

I don't think the public would be to keen to be forking out that kind of coin only to see it go as far as implementing more Speed and redlight cameras!!!

Driving drunk and having a BAC reading over the limit are two different things... in the OP are you meaning driving pi$$ed or do you mean the sneaky drive home the next morning where you might be .04 or .06?

Yes, I have heard that they have been using them for people who have been caught drink driving.

With the point about having to breath into it every 15-20 minutes, that should be cut out, it should just be that the only way to start the car, is to be under the limit. And you would not need to service it every month, unless the breathalyzing technology in Australia is still house.

I really still think that the amount of lives saved would greatly outweigh the cost of implementing this feature.

Ah well, I'm done here, its been a great read so far!

Really, not even a beer? I just can't believe it.

You don't actually drink, even though we have huge amounts of stores that provide the drug, alcohol? We even have a drive through for your convenience.
We even have advertisements going throughout the day (when, obviously, many young people hear) saying stuff like "shoot down to your local liquor'. Making you think its just down the road, and why not, its so close!

I hate alcohol. And, YES, I do steer away from it. I was hooked for about 3 years, but I finally let go...

The thing I hate so much is the fact that they advertise it every 15mins on the radio! The fact that you can walk into a HUGE building (Dan Murphy's for one example) and have the greatest selection you could ever imagine, and for 'the lowest prices you will ever find!'.

Why don't they just open up a store with Marijuana. "The greatest selections from around the world, for the best prices!". Its less dangerous than Alcohol. You cannot overdose on it, you do not act violent towards people, you can drive A LOT better than being drunk. It has been proven many times by leading scientists to NOT be addictive... I can go even further an more in depth into this subject that should be addressed. But I wont!

Geeze, wake up EARTH!..

Lol sorry, that was just my sort of rant. Feel free to delete this post (MODS) if deemed unnecessary!

weed is addictive - you obviously haven't smoked enough - i agree with statements regarding driving ability and such but Hydro is evil - i smoked everyday chronically for 5 years - one day my brain had enough and decided to chuck a spaz on me - i haven't smoked a single herb since xmas last year - life is 10 fold better

but if you abuse any form of drug you will get bent over in the long run

I did it once, then I saw this strange bloke all dressed up in the middle of the road waving his arms around. Pulled over too see if he was okay, turns out he was a copper doing a RBT. You get that on the big jobs.

Because alcohol is legal! : Thats why there are big stores and lots of advertising as the majority of drinkers drink responsibly and socially and shouldnt be banned or what ever because of the do gooder minority ..... even though the minority always has the biggest voice. Prohibition worked well in the states!!!

The main point is ...... You can have a drink and not get drunk! No one EVER has a joint not to get stoned!!!!!

Is this all getting side tracked anyway .......?
