I own 12.5 litres of engine capacity at the moment, a blown 5.0l, a 360 val and a 1.5litre excel.
I bought the excel for economy to get to and from work, Im now lucky to drive it a couple of days a fortnight. From the cost point of view, its a no brainer, the excel is the fuel miser. But a enjoying the power and urge of a v8 is something that im willing to pay for, and refuse to sell on that basis. I might drive it less, but as long as there is fuel, there will by my v8's.

I agree too!!!! I recently bought my AU111 XR8 auto......Peak hour city driving with aircon on I've been getting 360-380 per tank(60l)......My wife gets 380-400 in our AU 6. I've previously had 2 V6 company cars that used the same amount as my XR8......You have to rev them to go anywhere!!!! We did a country trip in the XR at Easter and I got 600k's out of the XR8... Fuel alone is not the only cost of running a car.....If you got to a smaller improted car repairs are a lot more expensive than for a falcon....Insurance as well.....I also ran a Focus for 2 years for work and yes it was cheaper on fuel but parts are a rip off:- Clutch:- $1200 Brake rotors:- $350 ea(approx.) Focus Insurance:- $2000 XR8 Insurance:- 1200 Also had a V6 Grand Vitara:- Insurance $1800 Coils Packs $1300 (no aftermarket available). A lot of imported cars only have OEM parts available where as we can buy hi performance aftermarket parts cheaper than OEM.....And we can even do some of the work ourselves!! At the end of the day I chose a large family sedan(3 kids) for safety and comfort but also has some fun thrown in....$20 more a week in petrol than a Std 6 cyl. If fuel goes up much more than I will consieder LPG injection. |

At the end of the day, fuel isn't the be all and end all. Plus, for me it is a tax deduction, which was another reason why I bought the 8... hell if the texman is helping me pay for it, why not get a V8 !!!
What is bothering me to no end is these bloody interest rates, but that is another topic all together. |

This reminds me of a topic from 1996. Cold dead hands. It is my right. I will never give it up. All ended in tears.......
Now we need a few 100,000 strong marches in the cities and a lot of media interviews... Ford and Holden et al will continue to make and sell V8s while people buy them unless the do gooders bring in some sort of legislation to ban or restrict them. The yanks are already doing it. A greenie inspired restriction of 2 l/100km/seat for passenger vehicles (10l/100 for a 5 seater) and 5l/100km/seat for utes will be the end of it all. So if you want to be a V8 owner in the future keep buying NEW ones not old rebuilt antiques and make sure your local member understands it. |

I wont sell as it would cost much more to downsize..I own my V8 outright and for rego & insurance it costs me the grand total of $20 a week to own.Usually its a weekend warrior, but at the moment it is the daily driver - I only do a 16km round trip so it is hardly worth worrying about...An extra $10 a week??? I spill more than that in a night on the booze

That is exactly right.
I justify the extra cost of fuel, probably 10 to 15 bucks a week max by cutting in others areas. I bring my lunch to work which saves me around 50 bucks a week and don't go out that much (wife and 2 kids kills that), so to me, I can comfortably justify my XR8 toy. |

Don’t need to. No big financial commitments, My race car (V8) will be a toy when it is finally finished that I use at my discretion, same with the tow car (and I don’t know what that will be; Commodore Sportswagon, BF XR6T, E39 BMW 540, VZ Calais 6.0 litre, etc). Daily driver is a 4 cylinder or if times get hard I’m near a PT hub.
P.S. My V8 has been very easy on go juice because it hasn’t been going for years.

Not a daily driver so I will not sell the XR8. My theory, at the end of the day if fuel doubles Mr Tiida and Mr Corolla are paying you guessed it double in fuel bills. V8 cars are a luxury vehicle and it hasn't been known yet in Australia, but I think it will be now.
The V8 Falcons will be like owning a 1980's Aston Martin V8 Vantage in the UK where petrol is significantly more expensive than here. Yet, people still own, cherish these cars.

Sell it? I just bought one.
If fuel was that expensive in the future that it was affecting me bad I would just start riding a bike to work. No way I would convert to LPG. LPG is for barbeques. |

I've had my AU3 I6 for 6 months (two on LPG) and I'm rather sure my next car will be an AU2/3 XR8 on LPG
I started my driving life in a 1989 SV21 automatic toyota Camry... I'll need a V8 just to make up for it. :P |

Looking at the poll results, there are a lot of people who don't even own V8's and have voted
Not too mention ( excuse my french ) that III dipstick, who voted nearly all of the options :

I know it's only a straw poll, but I'm wondering how many of the votes are for project cars rather than daily drives. I very rarely see a Falcon V8 on the road, the vast majority are Commodores and given this is a Ford site I'd expect a small population who own a Holden V8.

Get rid of my V8???
Not a snow-balls chance in hell I have worked hard to get what I have Even if it means roaming the wastelands in search of fuel with my trusty blue heeler...

Will sell mine in 2 years or so, to get... another V8. Mine is a daily(about 500km a week), fitted with a VSI kit and running cost less than a small 4cyl. In about 2 months the conversion will pay off and the real savings starts - about $2000 a year. The plan is to get a BA/BF Ghia V8 in couple of years and do it all over again. I love my ghias and I love my V8s!

I have a 6 cylinder at the moment and will be putting a V8 in shortly. Cost of fuel is a concern for me bu no so much that I would get rid of the engine.

I am getting an EB 6 ready for daily duties, but mostly because the Clevo-powered XD needs some TLC more than anything, Of all the cars i have owned, (EA 'Mont 3sp CFI, EB XR8, ELII Ghia Tickford 6 XD Ghia 302c) They have all taken a full tank a week so it isnt really a concern, just usual for me.
When the XD is back, it will mostly just be for weekend duty, not because of fuel prices, but i'm sick of it being a vandal target.
