Been driving since 2003, and have only owned 2 cars.

TE Cortina. I had this for about a year before getting my Ls as my parents used it a run about, and I done bits, and pieces to it. When I got my Ls in mid 2003 I only drove it for about a week before getting the VL. Good old car, but I always wanted my first car to be a HR, or a VL. So it wasn't my choice.

Nearly sold the VL in 2008 to come over to the dark side (sorry Ford ), but decided to hold onto it. I have no intentions of buying another car atleast for the next few years.

I'm undecided what it'll be when I get to the stage of getting another car, but I want a V8.

Please do not take this the wrong way vctxr6ute, my post is certainly not aimed at you, nor is my post meant to be offensive.

From my casual observations:

People who buy really old second hand cars cheaply tend to turn them over often, because generally they are not good mechanically and don't go the distance and so need replacing often.

Similiarly people who are quite well off turn over their cars regualarly because they can afford to.

On my second car, and intend to change every three-four years. I can relate to the thread poster though, a year into owning my MK7 Fiesta and I want that new MK3 Focus. But it's like everything I suppose, the more you have, the more you want...

I owned my first car at 16, however I didnt start driving it till 17, that was my old VK commodore.

VK commodore - 1 year (actually driving it)
AU Fairmont Ghia - Current (had it for a year and a half)
VY SV8 - Current (only got it a few months ago)

Haven't really changed much as I haven't been driving that long. I've driven heaps of the family's cars including a Datsun 120Y etc. but they weren't mine personally.

What I am saying is that it is my observation that people on lower incomes turn vehicles over more often due to the fact they buy cheap ****-heaps and then the cheap ****-heaps **** themselves and so they have to go and buy another cheap piece of ****.

yeh,you can only buy what you can afford at the time, but some cheapies turn out to be better(cheaper to run/maintain/service and more reliable) than some new cars,I think the older cars(in my case anyway) you tend to play with them more than you would your daily drive there easier to come by, half the cars in most of the guys lists(including mine) are/were weekend toy cars ,or you get bored or situations change and the car needs to change to suit,I know when our children came along our subarus didnt really fit 2 car seats comforably so we had to go back to a ford sedan, then you read ford forums and you want to upgrade because every ones talking about the new "X-car" that you gota have. Id say the last 5 fords Ive bought were becuace of someone posting good comments about a car that I had to have a peice of, one way or another.

I bought a brand new car In March this year and I must say BIG mistake. I want to get rid of it as soon as I get off my P's in December and get a V8.

I don't think I will buy a brand new car ever again, a 3 year old sounds like a better idea for a near new car.

I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I bought my current car, it's a 2010 model softroader 4wd, not as much room as I now want, slow, **** on and offroad and is pretty much pointless unless you want A - B transport for 4 or less people, which Is not what I want. Oh well you learn when you are young and make stupid mistakes.

I'm on carpoint every second day looking at the next car I want to buy.

Went over 5 years without paying rego, just kept changing cars.
The HQ was the shortest time i owned one - 20 mins, guy doing the raodworthy bought it before he even finshed doing it??
Standouts:-
57 Zephyr, my dad and i kept it immaculate, I wrote it off in the main street of Gosford... Crazy.
64 Hillman Minx, i know you kids wont believe this but i could triple any corner advisory speed sign.. 40 KPH sign - 120KPH, i have lots of witnesses.
74 P76, had a few mods, went quite well, used to race my mates up and down the Toowoomba range, cops clocked me at 160KPH there once...
71 XA GT, genuine item, further modded, have done a true 150MPH in it, loved, loved, loved that car, wish i still had it.
The first Nissan ute was rally prepared, Bob Jane sponsored, corners just didn't exist...
Citroen BX16v, hugely underated, they won their class at 92 Bathurst 12 hour against the Brock factory Peugeot team.
Loved all the BA, BF's as well, one of the best sorted production cars built anywhere. VE's are nowhere in comparison IMHO...

No wonder i'm still trying to earn a living, oh well. Cheers.

i've had my licence for 10 years and i think i'm on my 9th car, 6 fords and 3 "others" including a commodore (ducks)

best car: I had an ED manual for 5 years that only cost me a total of $300 in repairs, and I killed a lot of tyres in that car, it was friggen bulletproof, not just that but I matched a few 1990's V8 commodores at the lights

worst car: I bought a brand new Rodeo, only owned it for 9 months and that gave me more problems than the ED did in 5 years, also had an XE for a while that just kept stoppin on me

car i should've died in: I owned a VL Turbo for about a year when I was 19 and I can't believe i didn't kill myself in that thing
