The us falcons still represent good value for money if you dont mind driving them from the other side of the car. Getting them into the country now is the bigger challenge.

I have given up expecting anything but utter stupidity from people advertising cars. It's just not worth the aggravation/ increased blood-pressure.

I can only thank God that I don't have to read ads placed by Commodore owners, but even still I am convinced that most people write their ads whilst smoking crack.
It's hard to pick the worst. Those using 1970's car-yard slogans, or claiming a 20yr old car with 250kk is "as new", or that their ute is an ex-police pursuit vehicle, or that their busted-**** BA XR8 is somehow rare.
But I guess the pick of the bunch would have to be those who, having arrived at some deluded price for their POS, threaten to remove it from sale if their deadline isn't met.

Before I got my licence in 1978 I recall a bloke in his mid twenties then , would be mid sixties now owning a blue genuine XW Falcon GT .Was the talk of the town at the time . Many years later in the late 1990's at a wedding I met up with him and he'd sold the car on after he married .

Mike (the owner) regretted it then , selling that is , but I bet wherever he is now he regrets it even more .

Quite apart from the monetary value of the real deal GT, GTHO's would be the simple pleasure of driving and looking at one . Our local garage owner has a 1974 XB GT bought brand new by his father and is regularly driven too .

I wonder will the later GT's and especially the FG GT-P's and GT-F's warrant the same type of loyalty and value in a few decades time . Possibly not .

Pretty much the same things were said of the XB GT and XC Cobras in the late 1970s.

You're going to be waiting a VERY long time with an attitude like that.

NOBODY is going to sell you something for $10k while everyone else is willing to pay $50k.

Either stump up the cash or stop crying that you cant have what you want.

Those 90's prices wont be coming back, not a chance imo. I remember a crappy condition XB GT 4 door going for a rockbottom $5500 back then lol.

Prices are constantly dropping and flipping cars for a quick buck is well and truly over. Good cars will always sell well, but most of whats out there is not that good and will drag the prices down. My experience shows that during the boom times people look up at the top end (eg. Million dollar Phase 3 - wow my poxy XY must be worth at least $100K) This was the case from early 2000s - 2009. I feel now as the prices have stagnated and the quick bucks are gone, the lower end has started dragging the top end down. 5 years ago buying pretty much anything with a nice paint job and stripes would have been a safe bet, if it didnt work out just put it back on the market and maybe make a few bucks. I'm sure that there a plenty of buyers still out there its just the safety net of a quick sale if needed and increasing value has dissapeared.
ok its 2018 now ive got 15k burning a whole in my pocket wheres my coupe or xwgt?

The modern falcon is an interesting question Roddy.

We are in untested waters as you can't buy a new Australian built car.

FG GT's (miamis) are holding their value, GT-F are going up.

I saw an fgx xr8 for sale the other day and was surprised at the price, I haven't taken any notice since I bought mine but a check on car sales and I could sell mine now and take a $2k hit after 2 years.

They will come down over time but I think they will depreciate at a much slower rate.

It seems only the V8s are holding though.

Wonder what you'd get for it now?

I will definitely looking to buy another V8 Falcon, perhaps a nice low km FGX XR8 when the mortgage is more in my favour, but I'm nearly 50 & have Ford in my DNA. What concerns me with these cars in the future is whether or not the younger generations will have interest for them. Sure there are guys my age who's tastes may rub off on their kids, but so many younger car fans prefers Japanese/Turbo/Hatch types. It will be very interesting to see the lay of the land in 10yrs & then 20 yrs time. There is so many performance oriented Falcon's on the market, combined with all the new Mustangs coming into Aus and the constant stream of American muscle cars, that it could create a situation where the prices will have to take a hit. I really think that now there is no Ford/Holden production in Oz, that the rivalry most of us know & grew up with, will really slow, along with newer younger fans taking on ownership of an older car. This is all pure speculation, but something that could go any number of ways. One thing that will never change is mans obsession with the automobile, but will it remain with the great Australian built cars we all know and love so much? Interesting times indeed.

Like most things in life, supply and demand will influence the market price. Personally it has taken myself buying and selling 3 XY's until I was able to afford the car I wanted. My Fairmont was turned into a replica many years prior to my ownership and looks fantastic in GT guise but I have been buying Fairmont badges, chrome window surrounds, stripes etc to restore her back to what she truly is.

The market does fluctuate but is most definitely head one way, up.

Fakes are just that FAKE. Why people would put GT badges on a falcon 500 is beyond me.

It really annoys me. It takes away from the guys that own the genuine item.

Great to see another Fairmont come back. Otherwise the next generation will assume all XY's were GT's

Interested to know, are people still bringing over SA GT's or did they all get brought up?

I may get shot down about this, but after nearly 50 years since the heyday of the GT, does it really matter to the driver if it is a fake or real. If a replica GTHO is made from a Falcon 500, restored properly, using NOS correct or improved parts, does that lessen the enjoyment of having one ?
There are a lot of pedants out there that will know the difference and dismiss it, but to the average enthusiast, if it looks like a GT, sounds like a GT, it is a GT.

I, and a lot of other young blokes at ‘the time’ could afford to buy one new, but the running costs and insurance made it impossible to own one. And, sometimes the practicality of owning a ‘now desirable car’ back when, was somewhat short of expectations.
I bought a LH Torana SLR new, and traded it 12 months later, as it was the most uncomfortable, ill handling POS imaginable. Try telling that to current owners of one now.

In about 1985, I spotted a real GTHO in a Wagga car yard, about $6,000 from memory. Convinced the missus that as I couldn’t afford one new when I wanted one, and that I could afford it now, it was in real good condition, and I intended to use it as my daily.
With the potential purchase approved, and test drive arranged, but I thought the driving position was antiquated and the whole experience was a bucket of bolts, regarding noise, ride, and drivability. There was nothing wrong, it was just an old car, and drove like one. Completely shattered my memories and dreams. Do I now regret not buying it ? No.

My thoughts now are that old muscle cars are like pretty young blonde sheilas with big boobs. Probably fake, great to look at, but expensive to keep, and not all that practical, but bloody good luck to those who have them.

Good on you and if indeed i was lucky enough to own it thats xactly what i would be doing.Biggest car regret i have is many years ago selling my XYGS worse still the bloke that bought it wrote the thing off two weeks later.

Yep , that survivor GT is something else isn't it . You'd not touch it I reckon, not until the day the RT mob defaulted her for rego fails .

The 351 is just epic and as she launches she sits back on her bum like only a GT can ..I've watched that vid at least a dozen times and still puts a smile on my face each time .

Spot on mate, couldn’t agree more. Let’s not stop at GTHOs, how about AC Cobra replica kit cars..shame on them for producing a replica
At the end of the day if it’s a nice thing enjoy it for what it is. You can take a replica out and actually enjoy it, improve it over original and make it “your” car and more aligned with today’s expectations. I’m not saying it would be a new car ride, who wants that, it’s a 70’s muscle car, but make it go, handle and enjoyable while the others hide their originals away and sweat on the market value.
You see a GTHO at the strip or the track it’s likely been modified and keeps the legend alive.

How about that poles apart but equally impressive look at the early 70's GT's?

That second vid is of my uncle Ronnies old xy, theres a bit of a story behind it, and the reason it wasn't restored (including Lichen and crap on bonnet etc).
