There was a nice rod at 0:06 and the BA GT had Boss 1021 or 1071 on the bulge and made a very loud whining noise, so I'm assuming that may have been power in HP? But I won't bother posting any more since it is not good enough for you, rick.

Something is odd about that picture of the rear ended VL and it's intrigued me every time I've seen the pics - obviously it's well and truly folded up, however if you look at the Territory you can clearly see that the front guards don't appear distorted or damaged in any way which I would definitely have expected if it was travelling at a decent speed.
I wonder if there is another reason the VL folded up like that? |

Impact absorbance and crumple zone design from today is vastly superior to what it was in the 1980's ... that's what I would put it down to more than anything.
Still a big hit. And i feel for the owner of the VL ... so much time/energy/money has been put into it. And lucky the rear seat passegers got out just prior as well. Could have been much worse. Anyway .... back to the pics ... always enjoy seeing what turns up to the Nats.

I was planning on doing the early run with mates to the nats but life got in the way lol, mates and i used to go the nats each year for about 6 years but we got sick of seeing the same cars so gave it a rest for the last few, looks like there is some really nice rides about now, maybe next year!

I feel also for the fella in the VL, but I also fear that he won't get payed out. As with a blower hanging out of the bonnet and the rest that has to go with a package like that. I can't see it being road worthy or passing a machinery. I know you can say his got a mod plate for this or that, but when the other insurance company think they can get out of it they will. Still feel for the fella and by the sounds of it hasn't had a good run lately.
Anyway fellas great pics and keep them coming. |

Don't speculate on insurance, the other parties insurer has assumed the risk and entered a contract which cover thier client. Thier client hasnow damaged another vehicle, he will get paid out.

I had an accident a few years back, where a car came onto my side of the road and we almost had a head on. I turned to miss him but he still hit me in the drivers side guard and door. Anyway a insurance assessor came out and check that the tyres and other things were alright on our car. It's just like being unlicenced if your car is unroadworthy then it shouldn't be on the road. If it wasn't on the road the accident wouldn't happen. Look I hope there is no hassle and he gets payed out, but I know how they can be and have been through it myself.

Either way the poor owner of the Commodore will cop a fine and insurance claim for rear ending it.

Google it. I found images of it straight away as well as a lot of good stories about it. Google: Mick Fabar 1967 XR Falcon sedan

I can't get over how damaged that VL was! I hate VL's but geez.....It was so clean and well built! The time, effort and dollars put into that to only have it turned into a total wreck is a real real shame :( I feel so sorry for the poor bugger that built this.....And right on summernats.
Lucky they got out of that back seat! Very sorry for your loss mate. |

Was there on Saturday, great day although Kranky's burnout was ruined by fire. First Kandos now Summernats.
Saw that accident on the way too, luckily no one was in the back of the commodore and the territory for they surely would have been killed. Don't know what precipitated the accident, but it was on the roadway (not the shoulder) and the red car (Audi) had no front end damage to it but substantial rear damage. What I do recall is that there was no skid-marks from the territory (ABS only works above 5km/h) and the trailer was straight as in not jack-knifed. Sorry to all those involved, thankfully no one was seriously hurt. As for the day, it seemed to take a very long time between events, and the p-plater on the skid pad with the SV6 commodore was hilarious. Does anyone know what happened to the XR6T black ute on the pad? Why did it need towing? Anyway, it was a great day although severely hot and extremely hard to keep cool, so much so that when clouds shadowed the sun it seemed to drop 10 degrees or more. Was great when the storm broke, nice and cool finally. Lightning show was spectacular too. EVILXA was an absolute monster, I believe he won on Sunday. Does anyone know how ULEGAL went?
